Travellers' Choice
Pungwe is a small intimate authentic safari camp which brings back the essence of a true safari experience. Our comfortable en-suite meru-style tents are reminiscent of days when safaris were all about the sights, sounds and smells of the bush. Our camp is about the bush, the animals, the unique experiences and the subsequent regaling of these by the iconic fireside. Pungwe Safari Camp is situated in the southern part of the 22 000 hectare Big 5 Manyeleti Reserve. Pungwe shares unfenced boundaries with two world renowned reserves, the Sabi Sand Reserve to the south and the Kruger National Park to the east, allowing for free movement of wildlife between the three reserves. This ensures that Pungwe's guests will be privy to some spectacular game viewing without having to share the sightings with numerous other visitors. Our guided morning walking safaris put you in touch with the bush, immerses you in your surroundings and enable you to encounter wildlife at a unique level. Our afternoon/evening game drives ensure that your sightings are up-close and personal. The perfect combination to create lasting memories. The 4 en-suite meru-styled tents at Pungwe offer simple elegant comfort, security, hot and cold running water for baths or showers and an exceptional feeling of truly being in the African bush. Only under canvas will you not only hear, but feel the roar of the lion, the throaty cough of a leopard and the Fiery Necked Nightjar celebrating the night.

Let me preface my 5 star with review with the following: If you are looking for a large, plush, luxury bush camp - this place is not for you. It is a tented camp (yes, the walls of your hut are actually tent material) and the camp does not have electricity, air conditioning, a swimming pool or wi-fi. But, why would you come all the way to Kruger national park for a swimming pool and wi-fi? Pungwe is the perfect authentic bush experience. Each tent is very large and beautifully decorated. The bed, cast with a mosquito net, was very comfortable. The bathroom had a shower and claw foot tub with plenty of hot water. The tents were extremely clean (the staff come by at least twice a day to clean up and remove any bugs) and had mesh windows you could roll up to allow a nice

We stayed at Pungwe for a week. This was about twice as long as most people. Never and Donald (the guides) were fantastic and extremely informative. I loved it when Donald offered to carry Peg's Nikon with the 500mm lens for her. We both loved the morning hikes. I have been on many, many great vacations in my 60 years, but this was by far the best. My wife and I took over 2700 photos - You can see them, including Pungwe shots at independentstockphotos. com. The food was excellent, but much more than we are used to eating. At night we had an elephant, leopard and hyena roam through the camp. We had closeup pics of lions, cheetahs, giraffes, rhinos and more. My personal favorites are the warthogs. The accommodations are what safari accommodations should be. It isn't some luxury

We stayed in Pungwe for 2 days and 2 nights. Breathtaking experience. Loet and another guy took us two times on a trip with the 4x4 around sunset. Even saw a leopard "arguing" with an elephant, and later on, heard a leopard (and saw it footprints) around our tent. You really have the feeling that you are in the bush, accomodation was perfect and food was outstanding.

We stayed in Pungwe for 2 days and 2 nights. We (Me, my husband, daughter & my sister) rented 2 rooms/tents. It was a great experience we can never forget in our lifetime. The food was great. Cilla & Loët are very good & friendly hosts. They made us feel at home and relaxed. We saw 3 of the big 5, did not see a lion & a leopard but we saw a cheetah... Breath taking experience!... Also Walking in the middle of the reserve is an unforgetable experience. We surely recommend this place despite not having electricity... Believe me... you don't need it there.

Cilla and Louis Schulz personally welcome and guide their guests at the Pungwe Bush Camp. There are only 4 guest rooms/tents. The ambience of no electricity, no e-mail, and no Internet works to get guests oriented to the bush country. The accommodations are actually plush (or plusher than expected), especially the bedroom and bathroom. Oil lamps give an old era feel, while wood-burning water heaters provide an up-to-date standard. Their staff, especially the walk and driving excursion guides, is knowledgeable, affable, and excellent. We saw lots of animals in their habitat, and learned to recognize their droppings as a sign of their presence and behaviour. We felt well taken care of and safe. The Schulz’s host every meal, sitting down with their guests, giving us the feeling
