I stayed at the Shalati lodge for 2 nights, which was really nice. The huts are quite small, but cosy. The camp has a nice lapa where you can enjoy the fire with other guests. The food was good. The staff is friendly and professional.
We stayed here after ending a group tour here. We stayed an extra day and did a full day game drive with Hanlize. She was an excellent guide in Manyeleti Game Reserve. Paul and Mariana are wonderful hosts. They are all so kind and welcoming. Lindy made sure we were comfortable and the food is homemade, traditional South African and very tasty. We had a barbeque with our hosts that was delicious and fun! The chalets are charming and rustic but all very affordable. It is a bit of a journey to get there but it is all about the experience. Can't wait to return again
End of March 2014 : we booked two nights but stayed four! 2 Reasons : Shalati is located at the very entrance of Manyeleti Park and the presence of Mariana, the more than kind manager of Shalati. The rather basic infrastructure (though sufficient) was more than compensated by her kindness, Always there to help, to give information or just for a good chat. This made the start of our first visit to S.Africa a real succes. Not to forget the excellent breakfast and her dinner cooking (braai!). Prices - also at the bar (!) are unbeatable. If possible, we would have stayed some more days... In 2 days Manyeleti Park we encountered all animals except the lion, rino and crocco. Had the chance to observe for hours a leopard...From Shalati is 25km to the Orpen Krugerpark gate (there is…
It is basic and a little adventuruous but everything you need is there, very good beds, hot water, good food... Most of all Mariana and her assistant managers take really good care of you. Mariana is the most warm person I ever met. The lodge is near the entrance of Manyeleti Park, wich is connected with Krugerpark, but the entrance fee is much cheaper. First we made a nice game drive with Hannas, the assistant manager of Shalati and later we did it ourselves with an ordinary rental car.
Camped here while on an overland tour. The host was amazing! We ate, talked, saw traditional dancing while at the Shalati. I would love to make it back again someday. If you go please ask for a shot of "barbed wire" at the bar.
