Londolozi calls it a "camp" and they have 5 of them with slightly different twists and varying numbers of "cottages" but Granite Camp is a paradise of comfort, friendliness, family feeling, gourmet food, lavishly decorated and limited to three couples. You cannot begin to describe the standalone suites with comfortable couches, netted beds with superbly soft linens, large shower and tub inside, huge outdoor shower with a massive plunge pool and towering waterfall, plus patio lounge chairs and wild game passing by below us!

These "camps", which are normally jammed with Americans like us, are not at capacity because Americans want to travel but are afraid ... we found NOTHING to be afraid of. The only hurtle was getting Delta Air Lines a Covid-Negative test within 72-hours of departure and filling out an Attestation Form for South African Immigration saying we were Covid-Negative. On the way back to the USA, the Camp Manager arranged a Covid test with results delivered by email within a day and only Delta cared about that. This was no different than going to Hawaii, just far friendlier! DON'T BE RELUCTANT because the lodges are filling up fast!

We just left Londolozi where we had not returned since our Honeymoon 21 years.
We knew that Londolozi was a special place, as this is where our passion for the Bush had all started. But our (too short) 2-nights stay at Granite Camp was simply out of this world. It was INCREDIBLE. Simply the best we have ever experienced in our 30+ bush experiences over the years.

The suites were unbelievable. Stunningly beautiful. Impeccable understated luxury with fantastic in doors and outdoors facilities and majestic views of the Sand river. We visited all the camps with Phil and although the size and facility vary with price points, the spirit of the place runs throughout, yet each with its specific vibe.

Bruce and Rob were phenomenal ranger and tracker. The best we ever had. They share a lot of complicity and respect ; and complement each other very well. We have had fantastic drives with them, great fun together and we feel we left friends behind. We also realized driving around the property that the sheer size that you benefit from, allows for great variety which is much appreciated especially for longer stays.

Angie, our lodge manager for Granite, could not do enough to delight and surprise us with amazing experiences including bush breakfast and dinner under the stars for Valentine day. The food was absolutely delicious. Healthy, stylish and contemporary. With also a lot of choice which caters for any need.

It was absolutely a 2 night stay to be remembered ! Everything was perfect but what we would like to commend you most for is the value and spirit of your team. They are driven, passionate about their job, generous and sociable. Showing much respect and camaraderie with each other and their guests. Overall classy in a chic casual way.

Our only regret is that we pitched our stay way too short ! We are definitely back soon. And we will make it a ritual to come and visit Londolozi regularly.

As I said to myself as we were leaving : Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.

We will always remember the very unique memories we made in just 48hours in your special place.

So thank you and see you soon Londolozi.

Not saying this lightly, but the PGS camp at Londolozi is probably the best game lodge in South Africa.

The service is top notch, the food is unbelievably good, and the wine selection showcases the best South African wines.

The room/suite is massive and has all the creature comforts that you could possibly need/want.

A massive thanks to the game ranger team of Chris & Euce, who provided fantastic game drives, including an epic rally drive to get us back to the lodge during an unexpected massive storm!

Londolozi is the most perfect place of this planet. That might sound hyperbolic but it couldn’t be more true. The world’s best service and luxury meets comfort meets (of course) nature’s greatest wonders. We had never been to South Africa or on safari before so this seemed like the perfect experience for our honeymoon.

After four days at Londolozi we realized no other experience will ever compare - except to return many times. The staff, Ben, Robbie, Nichol, and our safari guides Sezant and Andrea, were all world class professionals. They showed us the heart of Africa and ensured we saw every one of the big five including some up close and personal time with a pride of 18 lions.

The food was second to none, and the rooms (we stayed at the Private Granite Suites) were just beautiful. As magnificent as any St. Regis or Four Seasons I have ever stayed at. Our fellow guest even commented on the experience dwarfing the Gritti Palace in Venice.

The thing about Londolozi is that is pulls on your heart strings. I cried at the site of the amazing wildlife, beautiful landscape, and the little family we built there.

And the way Londolozi empowers the local community is inspiring. I left wanting to give back and find ways to contribute to the fantastic work of the Varty family.

There is a reason Londolozi is the best in the world. Rarely when you visit a hotel or resort does it look better than the pictures, where in Londolozi’s case, the pictures do it no justice. You have to experience the magic of Londolozi with all of your senses. We are already counting down the days until we can return.

It is an exceeding well run private game reserve with beautiful views, knowledgeable guides & trackers and delightful dining. We were sad to leave but will return.

Our first trip to Kruger and the Sabi Sand Game Reserve was about 8 years ago. We stayed at Singita Boulders and it was fabulous. Honestly, it was one of the 2-3 nicest places we'd ever stayed. I always expected that when we returned to South Africa, we'd stay there again.

After extensive research and use of the Trip Advisor online forums, though, we decided to try Londolozi's new Granite Private Suites. The difference in price between the two was maybe $100 per night--which is nothing at these rates. With that said, we now love both places. In some regards, they are similar, in others quite different. Since both experiences are so great, the balance of our review won't really be about pros and cons of the two as much as about pointing out our perceptions of the similarities and differences.

Location/Acreage/Camps:
Londolozi and Singita properties are adjacent to one another and approximately the same size (both are larger than all other Sabi Sand properties excepting Mala Mala). Londolozi perhaps has a bit more land on the north side of the river and better traversing rights to the south. Also, the two have limited traversing rights with one another, which is great. As readers of the Trip Advisor forums constantly debate the importance (or not) of the size of the traversing area, I'll add our 2 cents--bigger is better! We were there in the middle of summer (February) when it is more difficult to see the animals due to the foliage. With that in mind, the larger the area you have to search for game the better. In this regard, I would certainly prefer to be at Londolozi OR Singita since their traversing rights are so much larger than other Sabi Sand lodges.

Unlike Singita's 2 camps in the Sabi Sand (Ebony and Boulders) that both have about 8-10 suites, Londolozi has 5 camps (each camp having anywhere from about 3-8 rooms). Having walked through all of the camps at both properties, they all have their own charms and unique aspects. In terms of the LUXURY safari experience, though, I'd say that only Londolozi Granite Private Suites and Londolozi Tree Camp are comparable to Singita Boulders and Ebony. And because Tree Camp--beautiful as it is--isn't really right on the Sand River, only Granite Private Suites is really a direct comparison to Singita Boulders.

Rooms:
The villas at Singita Boulders and Londolozi GPS are both quite modern to contemporary. Both have lovely pools in all suites, spacious rooms, fabulous luxury amenities and wonderful views. As the name Granite Private Suites would imply, the rooms, while beautiful and luxurious, are full of granite, stone and cement and built right into the rocks along the Sand River. They are also extremely private. At Londolozi, the guests from the 5 camps do not really mix and each day's game drives are only with guests from your reserved camp. However, it should be noted that it's an easy walk among the camps, and it's fine to do so during the daylight hours. During our stay in GPS #2, we were the only guests in the camp for 3 days. As such, our 6 game drives were completely private--just the two of us plus Julian, our ranger, and James, our tracker--both of whom were awesome! Because Singita has many more suites, having a Land Rover all to yourself would be a much rarer occurrence--unless you wanted to pay hundreds of dollars additional per day for the privilege.

Room #2, by the way, is probably the closest suite to the river of any in the Sabi Sand. It's plunge pool is beautiful and larger than most. Unfortunately, it's also a bit harder to use because of its unusual "construction" and proximity to the Sand River. While the views from Rooms #1 and #3 at GPS might be slightly less dramatic, access to your plunge pool is vastly easier than in Room #2! Honestly, at these Singita and Londolozi camps, I don't think there's really a "bad" room.

Service/Food:
The service from Jackie, the GPS camp manager, from Cry, our butler, and from the chefs, suite attendants, security, etc. was all genuinely warm and great. While Singita's service was equally professional, I must say that there was a warmth about the Londolozi (and specifically GPS) staff that I don't recall at much at Singita. Regarding the food, I'd say that our breakfasts and lunches were incredible and that dinners were very good. Sometimes, it seemed that the dinner courses might have been better if not quite so complex or elaborate. Still, it's hard to complain about private dining in either your own suite or at the main PGS pavilion by a crackling fire. On the whole, I'd give Singita a slight edge in the food department and Londolozi a slight edge in the service department. Both do a great job of catering to all your needs.

Rangers/Trackers:
Like, the regular tracker at GPS, picked us up from our Federal Air flight when we arrived. We had read about him in other posts and reviews. Unfortunately, he had just learned of a death in his family and apologized that he would not be able to be with us for our stay. As I said, though, James stepped in an did an incredible job. Even in the middle of summer with all of the full foliage, he and Julian found not only the Big Five, but so many other animals and beautiful birds to show us--even a few spiders we would have been fine not seeing!. While our earlier trip was in May and the animals were easier to spot, I will say that the addition of so many migratory birds in February enhanced the experience. Our journeys across the rushing Sand River (yes, Julian got soaked) were thrilling and the animals looked great. Seeing them in the middle of the summer, especially the Burchell's zebras, it was noticeable how much happier and healthier they looked than in the autumn/winter months.

The Intangibles (if you're still reading):
Anytime you tell someone who doesn't know luxury safaris how much they cost, they are invariably shocked at the price--for a "hotel room" no less! Of course, for those of us who have had the privilege, it is so much more--it's an unforgettable experience! And in this "experience" regard, I tip my hat to Londolozi. While both Singita and Londolozi both have luxurious rooms and service, great food, large properties, and great staff, only Londolozi integrates this experience with the very people who call the Sabi Sand home. Adjacent to the premises of Londolozi is the Shangaan village (the Shangaan are the native people in this area). Many of the employees of Londolozi live there with their families (about 200 of them); there is housing, a school, computers, and a clinic with regular doctor's visits and medicines. They have sports teams, craft shops, and a community center. It is clear that the Varty Family (long-time owners of the property since the 1920s) have a great love and respect for the Shangaan people--and vice versa. Our visit to the village one morning, including the songs that the schoolchildren sang for us, was really an "experience" we will never forget. For this very sentimental and humanitarian reason, we give the slight nod to Londolozi Private Granite Suites over Singita--truly a great overall EXPERIENCE!

I've had my fair share of luxury travel, but Londolozi was lightyears ahead of anything I had ever experienced. Let me put it this way--I registered for TripAdvisor just so that I could leave a review.

Going on safari had been a childhood dream of mine, one which was so beautifully fulfilled at Londolozi. I had done my research before traveling--I practically memorized the website so that I knew just what to expect when I got to the Granite Suites. However, no amount of research prepared me for the almost indescribable feeling of stepping foot onto the Main Granite Camp. You are greeted by the most welcoming and pleasant staff I have ever met. Namsa, our lovely butler, was sweet and an absolute pleasure during our entire stay. Every single meal was delicious, and I'll leave it at that--some surprises are better experienced in person!

Our Camp Manager Graeme was incredible, and he went out of his way to make sure that we had whatever we needed; he listened to any minor detail we mentioned and remembered it in a thoughtful way. For instance, he made sure there was an assortment of craft beer one evening because there were guests (like myself) who enjoyed it, and he booked me into the Creative Hub to get my photos edited because he knew I liked photography. That kind of genuine interest in your guests is what sets Londolozi apart from any other vacation I've ever been on. I was the youngest guest there, and it was really nice to have Graeme and our ranger who were similar in age. They were kind and friendly and wonderful company!

Our suite was absolutely perfect. The view is incredible, and really nothing beats swimming in the infinity pool while you're looking out at the quiet Sand River, hoping to spot a croc or hippo. The level of privacy was great--you really felt like you were secluded and totally unbothered by anyone else. We had a few minor issues with our air conditioner, and the only reason I'm mentioning it is to acknowledge how swiftly Graeme took care of them. There was nothing bad we could say about the suite--it really was absolutely perfect. P.S., I highly recommend getting a massage on your private deck--Candace has some magical hands.

But the real reason we go on these excursions is for the wildlife, and Londolozi did not disappoint. We had the most wonderful fortune of having the head ranger, Daniel, and a seasoned tracker, Richard, as the leaders of our game drives. The one thing I wish to tell people who are going on safari is that your ranger and your tracker are the ones who make your safari what it is. They are the ones who provide you with moments that people will never believe happened in real life. They are the ones who make it all worthwhile. And when they're good, they're really good. We were fortunate enough to have a few private drives, but even when we had to share the vehicle with other guests, Richard and Dan always made sure I saw the animals I wanted to see. We felt pretty darn lucky to get the Head Ranger, because Dan knew his stuff--from the animals to the vegetation in the bush, he had an answer for every question we had. And just when we thought he wasn't impressive enough, he turns off the headlights and proceeds to teach us about the constellations! We're insanely biased and we're going to go ahead and say that we had the best ranger/tracker combo at Londolozi. If you're lucky enough to get them, do a happy dance. Because they're incredible. I don't know if everyone gets to befriend their ranger, but I hope they do. I hope they're as lucky as we were. The one thing I don't want to talk about is the animals that I saw, because those are personal experiences that every guest should get to cultivate on their own. But we saw The Big Five, and some great leopards. There was even a lion-rhino standoff that had us all snapping a thousand photographs. Your ranger/tracker will make sure you leave Londolozi seeing everything you came looking for.

EXPERT TIP: Take your photos to the Creative Hub. I have beautiful canvas prints of my own photos, but more importantly, I have the memories from them. I can look at each print and remember exactly when it was taken, and that's how you know you've captured a memory. The Piva and Gowrie leopards will be proudly displayed in my living room!

The one undercurrent that runs through Londolozi is the passion for wildlife. It's crackling on the surface in almost every single conversation you have with the staff. The love of what they do, the love of being at Londolozi, of the African bush, of being in one of the most spectacular places on Earth...it's so palpable that it's impossible not to feel it yourself. I've never been in the same place with people who love animals as much as I do, who would stop and say hello to a small bird just because they enjoy doing it. It's such a gratifying experience to share that with a staff, not just your tracker and ranger. EVERYONE who works there loves being there. If you don't have the fortune of staying in the Granite Camps, you're still going to love your time at Londolozi because the staff's dedication to Londolozi's mission is everywhere on the grounds. And it's so obvious that Londolozi is run by a family--everyone feels close and everyone makes the guests feel appreciated, welcome, and wanted.

Thank you to Graeme and Namsa and the phenomenal staff for a brilliant stay at Londolozi. It felt like a home away from home, but a beautiful home that I never wanted to leave. And I will be forever grateful to Dan and Richard for making my childhood dream the most incredible and life-changing reality. In fact, don't think I will ever be able to thank them enough. I really hope that this review is passed along to the Granite team, because I really want them to know how much they meant to me.

Leaving Londolozi was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, and I left with the heaviest of hearts. The one thing I know for sure is that I'll be back. I hope each and every one of you get the opportunity to visit. As you can tell, I highly recommend it.

We just got back from our 10-day honeymoon in South Africa. We stayed in the Granite Suite for 2 nights and the Tree Camp for one night. Services at both camps were fantastic. Our room at the Granite was much newer and nicer. But both camps served pretty much the same food. Personally, I enjoyed the game drives at the Tree Camp more because the ranger (Tom) and tracker (Jerry) were very knowledgeable. We learned a lot from them.

We had a wonderful time there. However, with the high price tag, wine selections were very limited and food was just ok.
