The spirit of safari comes alive at historic Kirkman’s Kamp. Step back in time into the gracious early settler atmosphere of this original 1920s homestead and marvel at the spectacular views of the unspoiled wilderness from each of the 18 guest cottages and the lodge’s rim-flow swimming pool. Rolling lawns carve out a niche in a wild and tumbling wilderness that hosts memorable game viewing in one of the most renowned Big Five wildlife regions in the world. Spacious sitting, dining and bar guest areas contain original mementos of a time long past.

My wife and I visited Kirkman's Kamp on a retirement trip for me. We had no real idea of what to expect but the experience was certainly far beyond our expectations. From the variety of animals we saw, very close up in some instances (we saw 4 of the Big 5 on the first morning

We are considering mid/end of May. One of us has big fear of snakes. Any at Kamp at that time?
We went in September and also didn’t see any snakes. Meals are on a raised, open air decking and the rooms/cabins are well enclosed so can’t imagine any issues. The new rooms on the other side of the river are even more secure - proper houses. If it’s a real issue, contact them directly - they’re very helpful.

They have multi purpose sockets that all plugs fit in. We brought the wrong one, but no problem, all worked brilliantly. Enjoy, it really is the most wonderful camp.

Hi Sue P One of the exciting things about going on safari is not knowing what you'll find around the next corner - every drive is an adventure, and given the wildness of the reserves it is impossible to guarantee the Big Five. That said, the Sabisand Reserve (within which Kirkman's Kamp is situated) is rich in game and gives you one of the best opportunities in Africa of seeing the Big Five. Game movements in this area aren't seasonal, so your chances don't vary depending on season - although the bush is lusher at this time of year.

My husband and I took malorone pills and sprayed with Deet . We have been lucky to have no reaction (this was our 3rd or 4th time taking Malorone.) Our travelling companion had such a negative reaction to the pills that she stopped taking them after day 2. Regarding long sleeves, just make sure they are light shirts, it can get very warm (at least it was in December) during the day. We loved Kirkmans.

All our tips, except for the room maid, were included in our tour. Our tour guide suggested a $1 per day per person for the room maid.
