We spent 4 nights at Savanna in late August. We came primarily to see the Sabi Sands leopards and were not disappointed - 6 leopard sightings including 2 young leopard cubs. Lots of White Rhino sightings were an unexpected bonus as well as the pack of painted (wild) dogs. Saw virtually every animal we could think of including 2 days where we saw all of the big 5 in 1 day. We fell in love with Norman the lonely wildebeest and hope he continues to defy the odds. From the patio of our cabin we could watch elephants, warthogs and a variety of birds in the adjacent watering hole and field. The resident bush bucks and monkeys in the compound were always entertaining. The accommodations were spacious and spotless and the plunge pool on our patio was heated so we thoroughly enjoyed our siestas between game drives. Returning from the afternoon drives to find a hot bubble bath ready was reflective of the quality of care they put into looking after their guests. Meals were very good and there seemed to be something new each night including the private patio meal and entertainment by a local dance/song group one night. Special thanks to our guide Dan and tracker Life as well as our waiter also called Life - they and all of the staff at Savanna make it such a great place to stay. We visited during the worst COVID wave in South Africa and found the protections and precautions at Savanna to be first class and very reassuring. Would highly recommend and easily consider returning some day - we met several repeat visitors during our stay and know why.

Dear London_John_Jane, Wow! What a fantastic review! Thank you so much for making such and effort to detail your trip. For leopard, the Sabi Sands is definitely the place to be, and we are happy to hear that we did not disappoint. But as you mention, there is so much more to the wildlife, and more importantly, it is never the same. Each day is different, even if it is the same animals one sees. Watching the interactions between the species is a great privilege, especially when it is between the monkeys and bushbuck in the lodge! It is also good to hear that you appreciated our staff so much. We firmly believe that they are our strongest asset, even with the best game viewing in the world, so your comments about them is very heart warming. It is also really good to read that our COVID protocols are up to standard, and that you felt reassured. We appreciate that you will recommend us, and we look forward to your return. With warm wishes, Neil and the Savanna Family.

This is such a lovely lodge, all the finishing touches so appreciated, such as our own private heated plunge pool, being able to soak in the large bath tub filled with hot soapy water for us every evening .
The food was delicious, healthy and abundant.
The staff were so polite, professional, friendly and well trained.
Wonderful game drives twice daily, with our own experienced ranger and tracker.
The vehicles are perfect , only having 2 people per row which made it so easy for photography.
We will definitely be back.

Dear Shirley G, Thank you for taking the time to write your review of Savanna and we are very happy to hear that you appreciated all of the small touches put in by our dedicated team. Although game viewing is our main focus, it is important that the other areas of the lodge are up to standard, so to receive this acknowledgement is always appreciated. But the wildlife is the main attraction, and it is imperative that we do not lose sight of this. We are fortunate to have some of the best guides and we will never put more than 2 people in a row. As you mentioned, this is vital to ensure that everyone has a 'window' seat and can experience our phenomenal game viewing with no interference. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. With warm wishes, Neil and the Savanna Family

We visited here for our ten year wedding anniversary and it was absolutely amazing - and we've been to many amazing hotels and game reserves etc. before - but this place easily beat anywhere we've gone before. Game drives were like nothing we've experienced before; in one five hour drive we saw the magnificent seven! That is pretty much unheard of. Julius our tracker and Greg our guide made a formidable team and made every game drive so much fun and so worthwhile. The room staff went way out of their way to make the room amazing every time you set foot in it. Pickson our waiter was the friendliest and most helpful waiter you could ever ask for, and clearly all of the people behind the scenes were working together as a great team providing us with amazing food and incredible service. We really could not have asked for any more and definitely didn't expect the amazing few days that we had to be quite so amazing. Thanks to all at Savanna. Definitely recommend!

Dear Chukaman, Thank you so much for your fantastic review, and we are overjoyed that your wedding anniversary was memorable! It is always so refreshing to hear what made your visit enjoyable and what stood out for you. We are extremely proud of our team, and although our wildlife experience is rated so highly, they are often mentioned as the highlight! Greg and Julius are a fantastic team out in the bush, and as you rightly mention, Pickson always has a smile waiting for you on your return. We hope that you are able to return for another safari with us soon. With warm wishes, Neil and the Savanna Family

Prepare yourself to be pampered at Savanna Private Game Reserve with 5 Star Lodging and superb gourmet food at every meal. Tash and Neil Whyte will welcome you to the lush surroundings and total experience of life with wild animals that is never to be equaled or forgotten!

After an exciting early morning game drive and delicious breakfast at the lodge, have an outdoor soothing massage or plunge into the little pool outside your villa. Take a warm shower outdoors in your secluded private area, then lay down on your own pool lounge chair to watch the active vervet monkeys play and many animals feed just feet away from you. No worries as there is a low electric fence to keep the elephants from drinking out of your pool. At the waterhole just beyond, the swarthy warthogs stop to forage and get their drinks as do the spotted hyenas, spiral horned kudu, and a variety of animals living their life with unfettered freedom as they should!

With our native tracker Eddy and expert guide/driver Neil, we were privileged to experience the wonders of Ravenscourt and other leopards in the Sabi Sand area. Have you ever been up close and personal with lions just feet away from your Land Cruiser? For 40 minutes one day we sat in silence as the pride of lionesses went from peaceful sleep to being on high alert as a warthog approached. It was a prime example of the circle of life that will ever be forgotten. Of course, there were also quiet opportunities to watch the zebras, giraffes, wildebeests, impalas, hippos, rhinos, elephants, and ever so many unique birds. Can you believe that we even got to see a pangolin one night?

Be sure to take your camera and back-up batteries for this “dream come true” that you will want to share with others when you get home. Savanna Private Game Reserve is the Best vacation I have ever had. You will feel the same way, too. Now I cannot wait to return here for more adventures 😊

Dear suzannef418, Thank you for your amazing review of Savanna! As you have mentioned, the game viewing here has always been fantastic, but to walk away from a safari with a pangolin sighting is extremely rare! You are some of the very lucky few! We are overjoyed that the rest of your stay with us was also good and that it was one of your best vacations you have had. Hopefully your return will be soon, and we can continue with your African Adventures. With warm wishes, Neil and the Savanna Family

A most splendid lodge for accommodation and services provided
The staff was very attentive, helpful and fun.
Each separate lodge has a lovely plunge pool to enjoy and watch the game roaming, or in the waterhole. Chaise lounges to relax after your early morning game drive.
The game drives were everything one would want and expect, excellent land cruisers, guides and spotters. You see all animals up close and can bushwhack anywhere to follow animals in your vehicle. The guides are educated and knowledgeable about the ecology, geography of the area and facts about the numerous types of flora and fauna.
During your late afternoon/evening game drive you have a stop at a viewing point to enjoy a short cocktail period.
A warm luxurious bath with sherry provided to enjoy a soak before or after dinner...most enjoyable
The food at all times was at a level that exceeded all guests expectations! The variety of foods and the flavours were superb. The wine available ( that is included in your room rate) is from excellent vineyards in South Africa along with numerous choices.
I highly recommend Savanna Game Lodge

My husband and I can not say enough great things about Savanna- everything from the staff, to the game drives, to our meals, and our room went above and beyond anything we could have imagined! We spent 3 nights at Savanna in early September for our honeymoon and it was Amazing! The staff are so friendly and on top of everything- genuinely working to get to know us and made us feel like family. The Game Drives are beyond words- we saw all the Big 5 and had some incredible encounters with many different animals. Our guide and tracker, Adien and Lawrence, were the very Best, very knowledgeable and worked for us to have some amazing viewings! Our room was beautiful and we are still bragging to our friends and family about the outdoor shower and personal heated plunge pool. The food was all delicious, tried some new things like ostrich and eland, and several delicious desserts. We are already planning to return for our 5 year anniversary and can't wait to get back!

Exceptional. From the moment we were first greeted by our hostess Natasha, with refreshing fruit drinks in hand, our experience at Savanna Private Game Reserve was more than we were expecting. Our accommodations were beautiful, spacious, clean, well appointed and private. From the patio plunge pool area, we could see elephants, zebras, impalas and other animals in the distance. The entire space gave off such a calming vibe. The laundry service, hot water bottles in our beds at night, the fully stocked mini bar were all signs of their commitment to treating their guests like they're someone special. The cherry on top of this great service was the hot bubble bath and refreshing fruit drinks that were waiting for us when we returned from our afternoon/evening game drive. Natasha and her staff saw
to our every need with warmth and a friendly smile. There was even an anniversary gift waiting for us in our room one night. Being kosher when traveling can often be very difficult but, not here. Our chef, Glory, and server Pixston, were beyond knowledgeable and comfortable with our kosher needs. Glory even saw to it that when possible we ate a kosher version of what everyone else was eating so we wouldn't feel different and uncomfortable. All the food was creative, delicious and plentiful. The bar b ques were elaborate and special with local entertainment and and a beautiful venue. One night we were served an elegant private meal on our patio. We spent 3 days eating like we were going to the electric chair. Between drives and meals we availed ourselves to top flight massages on our patio, the workout room and the reading room. Last and, certainly most important, were the game drives. Our Ranger Nic Andrew and Tracker Life were beyond great. They worked together like a well oiled machine and we believe that we got the maximum out of the game drives that we could have gotten. Their knowledge of the reserve and animals was unbelievable. In addition, they were such a pleasure to spend time with. The jeeps having heated seats and good shocks was a bonus. They gave us an experience that we will never forget. Bottom line, for anyone visiting Sabi Sands, Savanna Private Game Reserve is the place to stay at.

Dear Shimmy2256, Wow! What an incredible review! Thank you so much for the thoughtful and detailed feedback. It is obviously very heart warming to hear that everything at the lodge made your stay so memorable. We are blessed with a wonderful team who truly want to make every person's experience of Africa as good as it possibly can be. We are thrilled that this feeling filtered through to you. We are also very happy to hear that your Kosher needs were met and that the kitchen was able to produce creative and tasty meals during your stay. Thankfully, however, you were not on your way to an electric chair, but rather onto safari in our vehicles with heated seats! Nic and Life and truly a great team, and we are thrilled that they were able to impart some of their knowledge and experiences of Africa to give you an unforgettable experience. Thank you for your recommendation and we hope that you are able to return for more in the future. With warm wishes, Neil and the Savanna Family

My husband and I have just spent 4 nights in the Savanna Private Game Reserve. From the day we arrived to the time we went home, we experienced superb hospitality, excellent quality of service, luxury accommodation, outstanding game drives, attention to detail and delicious food. All this ensured that we had one of the most memorable best bush experiences ever.

The staff were awesome, friendly and incredibly accommodating. They went the extra mile to ensure that we were pampered, well cared for and satisfied. There were so many little surprises, gorgeous little touches with attention to detail that made our stay so special. From the spectacular evening dinners on our patio to the wonderful breakfast and lunches. We always felt thoroughly spoilt. Upon returning to our room after a game drive in the evening we found a bubble bath drawn with some sherry and candles to set the scene for a romantic evening.

The atmosphere at Savannah is relaxing and luxurious and is one of genuine community and we as guests were made to feel part of the Savanna family. After breakfast we relaxed outside our room on loungers next to our plunge pool and watch the animals come to the water hole. We even frequented the well-equipped gym.

Our ranger Derek and tracker Edward were really knowledgeable and they went the extra mile to ensure that we saw the Magnificent Seven during our stay. We were very lucky to encounter the wild dogs for 4 days, see plenty of leopards, lions and cheetah in the area. We happened to see amazing animals on every game drive.

Savanna we would like to thank you so very much for the absolutely amazing stay and wonderful experience and we cannot wait to return.

Many thanks
Allyson Greenberg

You have mentioned in great detail of the many things you enjoyed during your visit to Savanna and it is great to see, but what is most important to us, is your mention of the atmosphere. I would rate Savanna higher than 5 stars if I could. I can't begin to explain how special our honeymoon was here. This was sooo much more than a holiday. Upon arriving we were greeted from our transfer by Jade with welcome drinks and a sit down introduction going through the schedule there and a full tour of the facilities and then to our room. We wanted to see the ‘big 5’ and saw 4 of the 5 on our first drive!! By the end of the trip we saw the ‘big 7’ and more. Our tour guide Aiden and tracker Eddie were soo knowledgeable and passionate about the animals and made a big effort to find out what we all wanted to see most to make sure we left every drive speechless! I have never been to a place like Savanna before, it is a small lodge which made it so intimate and special. We were introduced to Maggie on our first day and she said she would be our waitress for our trip and she was there for every meal, breakfast, lunch and dinner finding out what we liked and disliked to make every meal special. I am vegetarian and I mentioned it the first day and didn’t need to again, they catered everything for me and I felt I was taken extra care of. The vegetarian food was the best I had ever tasted, I have never eaten so good in my life! Everything was plentiful from meals to the minibar in the room. They hosted different experiences for meals each evening and even most of the staff attended so it was so nice to talk to our Guide that had been with us on the drives about his life and experiences and even the directors of the lodge which was really humbling. The small gestures in Savanna really made the trip. Each evening during our drive they would run the bath for me and my husband returning. They left small cards on our bed each night with quotes and the forecast for the next day so we could dress appropriately for the next morning (we went in their winter so hot through the day but chilly on the morning drives!) They also had ponchos/blankets and hot water bottles on the jeeps. Our room was amazing with outdoor shower at the back and heated pool at the front overlooking a watering hole that elephants came to drink each night. It was incredible. My trip to Savanna was the best 4 days of my life and I would absolutely love to come back one day. If not, I will remember it forever. If you are thinking of booking this, don’t think twice! Their hospitality is second to none. The staff there felt like instant family. Savanna really is a home from home.

This was the beginning of a special trip to mark a 60th birthday and had been planned for at least 18 months . We always hoped that the safari would be the highlight of the holiday but it went beyond that. From the moment we arrived , it exceeded our expectations from the efficiency of booking us in and dealing with our luggage to the obvious and genuine warmness of all the staff. We were introduced to our guide Derrick who was so knowledgeable and willingly answered all the incessant questions of our grown up son who was enthralled . The safari is very much full on but that is part of the excitement everyone couldn’t wait to set off and Derick our guide and our tracker Killie provided such an insight into the animals and their behaviour. They obviously both cared deeply for the animals and their environment and this came across in their explanation of why some of the pack animals behaved in a particular manner.
The accommodation was every bit as good , well equipped and they even ran you a bath on your return from the afternoon safari - can you believe it! Needless to say the food was of the highest order and the changes of location for each evening meal was such a clever idea. On the last night they provided entertainment from local singers which was brilliant and rounded off with cakes and candles for the three birthday guests - how’s that for attention to detail.Sundowners overlooking the watering hole and the hippo is a memory that will stay with us all. The whole experience was faultless and way above 5 stars and thank you to everyone at Savannah for making it such an awesome holiday.

Dear Michael K, Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a heartfelt, thoughtful, and detailed review of Savanna. We are obviously delighted that you chose Savanna as part of your special 60th celebration, and that the Safari was your highlight! The family team of Derrick and Killy is incredible, and as you so beautifully put it, have an amazing affinity for the bush and its wildlife. Having grown up in the area, their love for, and knowledge of the nature, is second to none! We are also thrilled that the lodge experience matched that of the incredible drives, and that the quality of food and rooms was appreciated. We are blessed to have incredible staff who treat the lodge as their own, and it is wonderful to hear that you felt this during your stay. We hope that you return to visit us in the future, as one does with friends and family. With warm wishes, Neil and the Savanna Family

Answer from Neil Whyte
Hi Eddgbjhfcj, Thank you for your question. The drive takes about an hour, but transfer companies like to give at least an hour and a half, in case there are animals on the way, or if by some bad luck you get a flat tire or something similar. Regards, The Savanna Team
