#17 of 40 Speciality lodging in Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Travellers' Choice
Notten’s Bush Camp is a jewel within the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve in Mpumalanga, which means “the land of the rising sun” in the locally spoken language, Shangaan. Notten’s is an exclusive and private safari lodge personally run by the Notten family. This beautiful, intimate safari lodge is situated within one of South Africa’s finest natural sanctuaries the Sabi Sand Reserve and Greater Kruger National Park. It is a destination that will truly touch your heart and soul. Each private suite is elegantly styled, spacious and cooled by ceiling fans. A magical atmosphere is created with the purposeful absence of electric lighting; the ambient candlelight and lanterns capturing an enchanting spirit of romance. With splendid panoramic views, this private game lodge is the perfect place for peace and relaxation while watching animals meander past.

We spent 5 nights here in September 07 just prior to the rainy season and it was amazing. Food was excellent, Our driver for the whole stay was Thomas and he is the BEST. We had the cottage at the far end with an outside shower facing the pan where animals came for water. We all all the BIG FIVE in short order and Thomas made special efforts to get that done for all the guests. I would go back there again.

We stayed here for 2 nights in August. I only wish it had been longer. Everything was marvellous, with no attention to our needs spared. The game drives were terrific and our driver Geoffrey knew the answer to everything. The rooms were comfortable, the food amazing, and because everyone eats together, the meals served either under the lapa or in the Boma were like a big dinner party. In fact it all felt like a very relaxed country house weekend. Nottens is not expensive compared to some lodges in Sabi Sands, but quality does not suffer at all. The acreage to traverse is not extensive, but we saw all big 5 within a day, and wild dogs. The fact that many of the staff at Nottens have been there for many years indicates the strength of the team there, and it really shows

Once you get used to the kerosene lamps the experience is great. Lovely people, great location, good food. Rangers do a great job and we saw everything imaginable - will remember all the animals we saw, but particularly the leopard in the tree. Land Rovers are new and in excellent condition. Rooms were nice, clean, somewhat basic/rustic, but very comfortable - ceiling fans for cooling. Would gladly go back again. It is a longish drive on unmade roads, so don't take a sports car to this lodge!! We had visits from elephants and hyena in the camp - probably more, but we didn't see them!! We celebrated a birhtday whilst there and they put on a special breakfast treat for us. Wonderful.
