Notten’s Bush Camp is a jewel within the heart of the Sabi Sand Game Reserve in Mpumalanga, which means “the land of the rising sun” in the locally spoken language, Shangaan. Notten’s is an exclusive and private safari lodge personally run by the Notten family. This beautiful, intimate safari lodge is situated within one of South Africa’s finest natural sanctuaries the Sabi Sand Reserve and Greater Kruger National Park. It is a destination that will truly touch your heart and soul. Each private suite is elegantly styled, spacious and cooled by ceiling fans. A magical atmosphere is created with the purposeful absence of electric lighting; the ambient candlelight and lanterns capturing an enchanting spirit of romance. With splendid panoramic views, this private game lodge is the perfect place for peace and relaxation while watching animals meander past.

Nottens and Sabi Sands was our final stop on our amazing safari and needless to say we left the best for last. While we had been staying in tents at our other camps, staying in a luxurious lodge at Nottens did not lessen the experience of being on safari in the bush. So so many animals, everywhere you looked, even around the camp. The ambience of the candles and oil lanterns at night continued the old time safari feel. Dale and his staff always had a big smile of welcome and the lounge/seating areas were so relaxing while you discussed the day/s events.

was our guide and worked diligently to find the animals. We were lucky enough to see 2 leopards (separately) on the hunt and caught up with one of them later feeding her kill to her cubs. We saw the Big Five while at Nottens in multiples!! JUst on our drive out of Sabi Sands to the airport, we saw male lions laying beside the road, a large herd of nyalas, water bucks, kudus in addition to the usual cast of characters- elephants, impalas, giraffes, wart hogs

We were lucky enough to be at Nottens the evening they had their outdoor barbecue and that was magical event with the best steaks we have ever eaten!!!! Then the next night, we arrived at a Sundowner campfire in the bush with Dale cooking sausage and ribs. Thanks to Joe for the lessons on animal calls, I was able to identify the animal sounds that night.

We had a wonderful stay at Notten's Bush Camp for three days. The location just in the center of the wild life park is just magic. The guides and trackers are excellent with a deep knowledge of the wildlife in the area. The camp has a great atmosphere from room to food, just a lovely place we would absolutely want to recommend.

Best of the Best..!

What a truly magical get away in the middle of the bush.

From the time we got there +-3pm, we didn’t even get a chance to unpack, we were whisper away to a late lunch “bobotie” to be exact with a little salad, then straight afterwards on to our first game drive.

Thomas was our ranger, what a world class guy. He has to be one of the best in the game. Thomas took us on a tour, that we never ever forget. From day 1, till the last day we bush wacked the Sabie bush like you have know idea. Out of the 5 days we were there, we saw all the full big five 3 of the 5 days. That’s not to mention all the other game we saw in between all of that.

The property is neatly unkept and rooms are very luxurious and modern.

The staff were always friendly and pleasant and very attentive to what our needs were.

Jan and her amazing gastronomical experiences, from breakfast’s to lunches and candle lit dinners. Thank you it was a really superb experience.

Overall experience 10/10

We spent three days, two families with two children, in a charming place with a great team.
Jeff was a captivating, funny and quite unique guide who was able to give us all the secrets of the bush with a special attention for our two children.
We ate divinely well in a bucolic setting.
The Nottens family was particularly attentive and responsive when we had to leave the Bush due to heavy rain and flooding.
We appreciated it very much and will keep a special memory of this adventure.
With love from Switzerland.

My Wife and visited Nottens in January. our fourth visit, and once again absolutely amazing stay. Nottens is a magical safari experience, the camp itself is great fun, allowing guests to relax during the day after the morning game drive, and before the evening experience. lovely helpful staff, and the guides and trackers are something special. great guys really wanting to give the guests those unforgettable memories, which for us with African painted dog, leopards, lions made it all very special.
and the bush breakfast, what fun. Thank you everyone. Jack and Linda

Where do start, I loved every aspect of our stay here. The rooms are very nice, better then the pictures on the website. The food, accommodation and service are impeccable! The most special thing about Nottens is unquestionably the staff they are genuinely the warmest, most helpful and friendly people I have had at any lodge I have stayed at. It’s not put on it’s genuine and after two days we felt like family. Jan and her team are unreal the food is just too awesome they accommodated all our dietary needs, I was never without a drink in hand. The game drives were awesome we saw the big five with some incredible sightings and our ranger Tinyeko went out of his way to get us great sightings. If I have one complaints it’s the chairs at the pool, they are very uncomfortable. Other then that would I return....immediately I would love to and I will!

Trip Advisor Review:
We were lucky enough to spend 3 days and 4 nights at the Nottens Bush Lodge. It is an authentic bush lodge experience in the heart of Sabi Sands. This is a family run camp with extraordinary attention to detail in every way! It’s down to earth luxury, the love and care with which every single person at the camp shows creates a feeling of wonder and amazement. There were surprises for the guests, the drivers and spotters are outstanding and take the time to explain and point out everything from the foliage, to birds, to animals to African culture and are always willing to stop and let you take as many pictures as you want. The cabins are gorgeous!!! So comfortable each with a private deck overlooking the bush - today an elephant family came to visit while we were sitting and relaxing in the afternoon. Meals - beautifully presented and each and every meal was better than the last! The staff was kind and generous - making sure to take care of individual dietary needs. The pool and surrounding setting are beautiful and there is a small gym and spa available as well. We were beyond thrilled with our experience at Nottens and can’t wait to come back! Many of the visitors were in fact repeat guests who all felt the same way. Dale and Jan fight for bragging rights over who makes the best G&T at Notten’s; we recommend deciding for yourself! Amazing staff across the enterprise!

Notten's Bush Camp's facilities are beautiful. We enjoyed seeing elephants drinking water from our room, the staff were friendly, helpful and the provided us with a surprise 'snack' in the bush around a camp fire the last evening.

Our guide helped us find a leopard and although we unfortunately didn't see the wild dogs, we had great sightings with every game drive.

It’s hard to do Notten’s justice in words. We stayed for for 4 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. What a fantastic lodge! We have been lucky enough to stay in a few private reserves in Southern Africa and Notten’s is by far one of the best. The staff are all so friendly and it’s clear it’s a family orientated business with some staff having been there for 30+ years. The rooms are very spacious with excellent facilities and views. The communal area had stunning views of wildlife. The food was excellent with a great variety serviced across breakfast to dinner. The team catered for dietary requirements very well.

Our guide Thulani was exceptional and very knowledgable. Not only did we learn a lot about the animals and the bush, but we had a lot of fun doing it. All the staff, guides and trackers were amazing.

Outside of driving we had the option of relaxing by the pool in the afternoons, having spa treatments or experiencing the bush on foot with Tiniyko and Ben - highly recommend!

We cannot recommend this place enough.

Thank you for making our honeymoon so special!

What is the easiest airport to fly into? Does anyone have an estimate for airport transfer cost?
Answer from pebbles2_13
Bundoran, Ireland86 contributions226 helpful votes
if you fly into Skukuza airport one of the drivers from Nottens will collect you their and take you the short distance to the lodge. I did see some elephants on this route. You will have to arrange this with Nottens. Nespuit airport is approx 3 hours drive from the lodge and you will have to arrange a taxi. I believe I paid around €50.00 each way for the transfer. You will see a lot of the African countryside from nespuit to nottens.

My first visit I was there with my daughter. They placed a bed in the room for her. So, I had a King bed & she had (I think) a double.
