Absolute magnificence . Situated right on a running river (a rarity in the bush ) each massive suite has a view of game entering and leaving the river for drinks . The main dining area and lounge is open plan and beautifully decorated in chic safari .
Your suite includes a large entrance with a desk; a massive sleeping area with seating ; an shower and bath with views of the bush separate toilet and large wardrobe area . There is also an outside shower and heated plunge pool with views of the river , plus seating undercover and on the deck for sun bathing . You can expect luxurious amenities and gowns,
The game viewing was exceptional with entertaining and experienced rangers and trackers. You can also view elephants, giraffes, and other game from your room .
My only possible niggle - although other might enjoy it - is the evening meal is very overly complicated . One night we had a 5 course tasting menu with wine . Personally I prefer a more paired down meal when I am on safari but maybe overseas guests expect such a complex meal . You also had to wait for all the other guests before you could eat which was also not my favourite as I like getting an early nights rest when you have to get up at 5am . Breakfast and lunches are delicious .
But I would rate this lodge as one of my top 5.

During our New Year’s holiday we’ve spent a gorgeous five days in the Dulini River Lodge. The accommodations were outstanding, clean and everything you dreamt of was available. The meals were exquisitely prepared, always having a strong emphasis on local ingredients, a sustainable cuisine and artistically prepared.
Without question the most memorable events were the morning and evening safari trips. The rangers Stefan and Mac and their trackers Martin and Prince were a class of their own. They were experts in conveying the fascination, not only to spot the native animals for a splendid picture, but even more to observe and experience their natural behavior and interaction in their native environment. After returning to the Dulini River Lodge we were always warmly greeted by Justin, Yolanda and their staff. Thank you Dulini family for sharing with us your wonderful time and giving us these unforgettable moments.

Our 5 days at this lodge was the absolutely best place we’ve been privileged to enjoy. From the moment of arrival the staff is anticipating every need/want. The suites are large, luxurious, nothing has been missed. The large tiered deck with a heated splash pool overlooking the river is mesmerizing. The meals are over the top, high quality food prepared perfectly, one is never lacking for anything. Game drives are early morning and late afternoon, always something to see. The rangers and trackers are very knowledgeable about all animals, birds, plant life, and don’t hesitate to share information. Plus, your safety is foremost. Thank you to ALL the staff. Everyone we encountered was important to making our stay wonderful. We will not forget your smiling faces! Till we see you again.

Our stay at Dulini River lodge was highly average to good. The rooms are fantastic and our guide abs tracker, Patrick and Bright were class.

However, we did encounter some issues. The first being the lodge being understaffed. Our poor butler Sipho , who was excellent , was running around doing various jobs and attending to other guests which defeats the purpose of a personal butler. The variety of food available is quite limited. If you are a picky eater, the variety of food at the lodge is limited including game drives, all you could get was one type of fried fruit and biltong, we did not even get any nuts.

The most ridiculous thing was we had to pay for drinks we had in the game drives, which was ridiculous. We have been to a variety of 5* lodges and this is the first time we encountered this. The lodge used to excuse of Covid-19 for this payment.

Overall, I think the lodge is overpriced and not worth what we paid. We travelled to Savanna Private Game Reserve in September and paid the same prices but a much much better experience.

If you have money to waste, would recommend.

Response from Iain Garratt, Owner at Dulini River
Responded 26 Dec 2020
Dear Kushsb Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are always grateful for the opportunity to reflect on our service offering and improve on the guest’s experience. In this season of unpredictable world health and economic upheaval, every business has had to redefine itself. The Dulini Collection has continued to balance our costing with the desire to weave magic for our guests, while maintaining a viable business model to employ 150 staff members and conserving a private game reserve for future generations. We have reinvented ourselves in a way that has delighted the vast majority of our guests despite the radically reduced rates. The fact that we have disappointed you at a time when we have tried to give so wholeheartedly, is truly regrettable. For the sake of clarity, Dulini staffing operates at a ratio of 4.6 staff to each guest. We are by no means under-staffed and are proud of the fact that we have managed to preserve jobs throughout this horrific crisis. Our butlers have always been assigned 2 suites, which they host with fastidious care. We have full confidence in our offering which is world-class, despite the special rate during this time of limited travel, and are grateful for the abundance of guests who have been overjoyed by their safari at the beautiful lodges of The Dulini Collection.

What a truly outstanding experience in the most beautiful of locations. Our gorgeous spacious suite (with a super plunge pool) looked onto a small river where a variety of wildlife came to visit, including a leopard just off our deck one afternoon. Talk about a WOW moment. The staff are top rate and the covid precautions excellent. All staff vaccinated. We were also able to have all our wonderful meals set up in our room for private dining by our great butler Andy. It was nice to know that any surplus food was always given to the local residents. And then there were the game drives. INCREDIBLE. We had upgraded to private drives and were able to continue with our DREAM TEAM of Rangers Dave and Tim who had looked after us at Dulini Moya lodge where we had just come from. These two were beyond brilliant - classy, knowledgeable and fun and gave us the most amazing sightings including a leopard coming down from a tree and a baby leopard chasing a squirrel up a tree. They also found us a newly born baby elephant and we could watch its first staggers with mom. The wonderful encounters kept coming, especially with the large number of leopard in the area. We were so sad to leave. We travel a lot but this was a trip of a lifetime. Thank you Monique and all at Dulini River for your quality and style. We will never forget these days.

Like any place, no matter how beautiful, the staff can make or break what would be an otherwise wonderful experience. The staff at Dulini went above and beyond at every step of the way — they absolutely made our trip!

The game drives were amazing and our ranger Mack and tracker prince were great. We saw some awesome stuff including two leopards going at it for a territory battle. We also saw a leopard stroll through camp during lunch! How awesome.

The food is incredible—I can understand the reviews here that it’s “a lot” in presentation and complexity but one thing for sure is the food is absolutely delicious.

Lastly, for any oenophiles that love wine — the wine cellar here is epic. They have something like 96 of the top 100 wines in South Africa. You have to purchase these on top of the inclusive package but it was well worth it for us. Thank you for a great trip Dulini!

This was the second Dulini property I stayed at after spending 3 nights at Moya.

Dinamos(sp) my ranger at Moya took me on a bush walk from Moya to River which was quite nice. We saw some animals and looked at tracks and poop. You may think that’s gross but you can learn a lot about an animal based on poop. Specifically which animal.

After he dropped me off at River I was able to relax a bit before my first afternoon drive with my new group led by ranger Fred and tracker Tyrone. Another great funny duo! There’s a great symbiotic relationship between ranger and tracker pairs that I love seeing.

The rooms at River were amazing. Very open, airy with a neutral color tone matching the river it overlooks. The only odd design of the room was that there is a window in the wardrobe room that overlooks the walkway. I always had to close it. Not that anyone would be peeping but not the most ideal place for a window.

Again, nothing left to desire from the views off my deck to the amenities in the room, to the excellent service and abundant food! On my last day I was privileged to try out the new breakfast menu. Great to see something like that. Was able to get my avo toast without cheese. Vegans no fear, they cater to all dietary types! Just let them know in advance. The only thing I wish I could have done but because I planned poorly was get a massage. Reminder, these are not paved roads you drive on and sometimes it can get bumpy!

Game drives were awesome. Dress in layers in winter since mornings are cool, not cold. But I live in Minnesota so the temp was perfect for me. They provide heat pads and blankets for freeze babies. And each row has binoculars for viewing. Animals in abundance and got to do a couple bush walk in the morning which was nice and cool since there were a couple days it got pretty warm.

Got to see the Plains Camp males together on my last morning drive which was special and one of the lionesses who had two cubs that were less than two weeks old. We gave them plenty of space but so awesome to see via binoculars she was with them.

Again, thank you to the entire crew at River, those I spoke to daily like Emma and Jabu( walking us safely at night) and those behind the scene who made the stay unforgettable.

Between Moya and River this was THE best birthday holiday I’ve ever had!

We had the best experience at Dulini River! Our stay was for a week at the end of May / early June, and it could not have been more perfect. Everyone at the resort was so welcoming and friendly, and they went out of their way to make this a special trip. One of the days we were there was also my husband's birthday, and they knew we had booked this trip originally for my birthday (but had to push it back to these dates). That evening, they surprised us by hosting a 5-course meal in our room (including a birthday cake with candles), and they had completely decorated the room with candles everywhere, as well as gave us a few gifts. We were blown away! This place and the service exceeded our expectations, and we are telling all our friends about it! Special shout out to Fred and Tyrone who made sure we saw every animal we wanted to see and they were also so much fun to game drive with! We also enjoyed getting to know some of the other staff, like our butler, Sipho was so wonderful and friendly, our night porter, Jabu, who made sure we always got safely to our room each night, and Emma and Monique who made sure every detail for our trip was perfect, and even helped arrange the return flight covid tests at the lodge to make it convenient. We wished we could have stayed here longer, but we look forward to the next time we can enjoy this beautiful, perfect place!

Hard to describe just how stunning this location is, right next to the Sabi Sands river we were spoilt with the animals we saw from the luxury of our lodge.

The lodge itself had it all as well, with an amazing viewing deck, with a plunge pool.

And finally the team working there truly make it a memorable experience, from the team serving you during the meals to the game drivers and trackers. They all play there part to make it an unforgettable experience.

We just recently returned from South Africa; we spent three nights at Dulini River Lodge. Everything about the resort was first class, from the moment we arrived and was greeted by Monique. Our butler Positive took excellent care of our family and was such a great person to come back to after either an early morning or late afternoon safari. The rooms were impressive, clean and well appointed. Our guide Observe and ranger Mora were amazing - we got to see far more than we could have hoped - big male lions, the pride, multiple leopard, one with cubs. Spent a lot of time with elephants, giraffe, wild dogs, hyena, etc etc. Mora was really passionate about birds and plants, and super excited when she spotted a dwarf bittern (I'd never heard of one). Anyway, we stayed at three different resorts/camps while in Africa and this was hands down the best one we were at.

Answer from Iain G
Sabi Sand Game Reserve, South Africa
Your excitement about traveling to Dulini is infectious and such a joy to us who know that you are in for an amazing experience! The African bush is always exhilarating, but has a particular magic in Spring, which is the season you have chosen to travel. The weather at this time of year is pleasantly mild and will offer warm days, followed by cool evenings. It is always good to pack a light jacket and layers of clothing. Our game drive vehicles are equipped with luxurious, fleece-lined, water-proof ponchos for every guest, in case of poor weather. There is no formal dress code and guests are welcome to keep casual. "Bush Chic" is the dress style - which is open to personal interpretation! Enjoy planning for your safari! We look forward to receiving you in September.
