Singita Ebony Lodge stands steadfast among enormous trees on the banks of the Sand River and offers guests a fresh and contemporary interpretation of classic safaris. Combining the design highlights of tented camps and bush lodges, the original Singita lodge was inspired by the adventure and charm of old-world explorers’ camps and features campaign furniture, natural fibres and polished wood. Each of the 12 luxurious suites includes its own private plunge pool and almost all external walls have been replaced with glass and canvas to optimise views and space. Outdoor decks suspended off the river banks invite laidback dining and relaxing, allowing guests to be fully immersed in the natural surrounds. This idyllic family retreat is set in the heart of South Africa’s Big Cat country and the lodge features two Lewis suites right next to each other – ideal for families with teenage children; as well as two family suites that are perfect for families with small children. An exclusive-use villa – comprising two family suites – offers a full staff complement and complete seclusion. Located in Singita Sabi Sand in South Africa, Ebony Lodge provides guests with access to 45,000 acres of an incredible wildlife sanctuary that’s renowned for its high concentrations of big game and frequent leopard sightings.

Everything that fellow reviewers said is true---this place is magical! Superior accommodations, superior service, knowledgeable staff, and a perfect location mean that your safari experience will exceed your expectations. Although this is not an inexpensive trip, it is worth the money to be in a lodge that is so outstanding. Love this place!

Two nights at Singita Ebony Lodge after two at their Lebombo property (see review). Quite a different feel: very "Colonial Africa" ambience. Service equally stellar. Great food, staff, and game ride guides.
Because you can go off-road, game viewing is more up-close than in Kruger. Result is awesome photo ops, even for a novice. Drought has not been as bad at Ebony's location in Sabi Sands, so more wildlife and shorter drives to get to it.
Bottom line of my 2 property, 4 night experience: Singita is a top notch operation and you'll love the lodge you pick. Old school classy.

Having travelled the world it is difficult to impress. I am impressed.

Not only do they understand true class, classic style, impeccable service and culinary excellence, their main aim is to do good for community and conservation.

Each lodge is a little different, but the same excellent quality and service is experienced throughout. Privacy and a personalized experience is what we experienced in the magnificent secluded family lodge, personalized for our use exclusively. It was our personal private five star villa overlooking the Sarbi Sand with an incredible view of the big five from our private pool.

The staff are incredible and make you feel like you are the only guests in the lodge. The game viewing is the best in the world and the experience of all the staff means that your trip is catered to exactly what you want without having to ask for it.

Again, we stayed in the family suite with kids, had our own pool, had our own menus at dinner catering for likes and allergies and we managed to see all the animals we asked for.

Thank you for an experience of a life time!

We went to Ebony again this year. We combined it with three days at Singita Sweni and stayed three days at Ebony. The whole experience was unbelievable. Everything is at the top level! The game drives were great; we saw everything we wanted to see. We had a great guide Stacey. Her knowledge was unbelievable; she could tell a lot about every aspect of the game drives; nature, animals, birds, conservation etc. She made the trip for me, my partner and my parents a great experience! The spotter Emmanuel was great; he saw everything and told funny stories in between. Tumelo looked after us during our stay and we loved her so much we were sad to say goodbye to her. She was very sweet, attentive and funny!
The lodge is beautiful and all the people working there really take an effort to make your stay the best possible. The food and the wines are the best. You cab compare it to star restaurants!! Many thanks to Singita for a special and wonderful holiday for all of us. Highly recommended!!!

This lodge is perfection because of excellent, hands on management and a truly dedicated staff! Outstanding food! Every meal was delicious and Individually prepared and then served by one's personal butler. We had an elegant dinner with wine pairings set up on the air strip which had been turned into a wonderland of white sparkling lights. One of the game viewing highlights for me was a lonely ostrich who joined us for sun downers one evening. She approached with no fear but fluttered her wings and delicately bowed her head like a ballerina en pointe. It was magic. Believe it or not we went back another day and she approached us again! for anyone looking for the unusual and unique the gift shop is unbelievable. This is the Neiman Marcus of the bush. Fabulous! I had my first female guide after many years of safari and she was top notch. Thank you Daniella.

Having recently spent a few days at Singita Ebony Lodge I can say that anyone who wants to visit the African bush should have this lodge as their number 1 destination. The setting was extraordinary and the best hotel room ever. Having a private pool and such opulence in the bush was very special. The staff from Matt at the front desk through to the rangers were great friends who made the whole experience even more memorable. Highlights were the decor of the rooms, the fresh food especially the Boma dining, the game drives with drinks served by the rangers, the service in every section and the sheer indulgence allowed throughout the property.
Very opulent expereience!

We stayed in two Singita lodges during our trip, Sweni and Ebony and, although quite different, both were wonderful. Ebony is the more traditional of the two, but, like Sweni, the service and attention to detail was second to none. Our room was large and attractively furnished with a large terrace that overlooked the river and featured a good sized seating area, a small private pool, two sun loungers and an outdoor shower. The staff were all very friendly and went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed. The guide on our game drives was Andy, who was very knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna and, together with tracker Ren, managed to locate not only leopard, cheeta and lions, but also a rare sighting of wild dogs. A highlight of the game drives was stopping in the bush for morning coffee or sundowners and, on one memorable occasion, a five course meal was laid out for us to eat by flickering candle light. Singita prides itself on creating an experience for its guests and it certainly delivered for us. It is expensive, but well worth it and we certainly hope to return.

We stayed in April 2014

To say this was an unforgettable experience is to seriously understate it. We'd been to 4 other properties on our Africa trip and this was the last one before we headed home. We arrived late in the afternoon, missing the departure time for the afternoon drive. If we'd known beforehand we would have looked a taking a charter flight from Kruger International to the private airstrip and saved ourselves the car ride and arrived much earlier

That aside, which had nothing to do with Singita itself, this stay was a magnificent experience. The accommodation was first class, the service was excellent and the attention to detail was outstanding. Examples of this include hot-water bottles under the blankets on the seats of the cars when leaving on the morning excursion, spare binoculars for guests in the cars, padded rests for photographers to brace their cameras and "comfort packs" for female guests who might need to "go behind a bush" during an excursion. At one point during a drive,we had a discussion about different whiskeys. That evening when we came to dinner we found that the bar staff had lined up 5 or 6 different whiskeys for us to try. Very very impressive.

The restaurant could hold its head up high in any company, anywhere in the world. The a la carte menu was varied, tasted great, was professionally presented and I even had some local kudu steak which was delicious. All meals, drinks, wine and mini bar were included in the tariff.

Our driver, Andy and guide, Syd were very knowledgeable and accommodating. We saw lions, leopards, elephants, rhino, wilderbeest, warthogs, impala, kudu, zebra, giraffes, monkeys, baboons, a variety of birds and even cheetah which we tracked for two days before finally finding them.

I had the experience of sitting in an open vehicle, right next to the track, watching a leopard strolling down, and as it slowly walked past, less than 2 feet from me, it turned its head to look me directly in the eye and just continued on.....indescribable!!

The souvenir shop located a few minutes drive from the lodge was well worth the visit with a large and impressive variety of well made and interesting handicrafts, completely different from most other "mass produced" souvenirs you'd expect in other parts of the world. Make sure to visit - you won't regret it.

On the last night, the turn-down experience included running a hot bath, sprinkling petals into the shape of a heart next to a ice-bucket with a bottle of champagne and two glasses next to it. See my photos.

An amazing experience. Just go - you will remember it always!!

I will start by saying that we visited Ebony for 3 nights after spending 2 at Swenii Lodge in Kruger as part of our honeymoon. I do not think that anything will come close to topping our time at Swenii as it was hands down our favorite hotel ever. That said, Ebony was amazing. The attention to detail and staff really set this place apart from others where we have stayed. We had liked a certain bottle of wine while at Swenii and when we arrived found it waiting in our room/house. It just made the entire time feel special. The food was delicious (but better at Swenii). We had amazing game drives -- thanks Dave! -- who really did a great job of seeking out sightings. We had particular luck spotting leopards, which we saw all but one game drive. Pretty amazing. If there was anything we would change it would be that the rooms could use a refreshing/update (particularlly the lighting system). But it really was a magical place to spend out honeymoon. I almost cried when we had to head to the flight home because it was such a wonderful place to be.

We tried to take advantage of all that Ebony had to offer -- we enjoyed a delightful wine tasting in the cellar, the boma under the stars, and I had an amazing massage (one of the best ever when I compare it to the states or the other places I've been). It was amazing. All in all -- the trip was just wonderful.

With that said, we did take lunch one day at Boulders Lodge. I think that this more modern, sleek lodge was more of our style and if we are lucky enough to return one day to Singita, would prefer to stay there over Ebony. You really can't go wrong -- it is just a matter of personal preferrence with style.

I can’t remember what exactly we did tip and the percentage to each person... However, the administrative staff at Singita were able to guide us as to what was appropriate and we gave everyone envelopes with cash. I hope that helps!
