Singita Ebony Lodge stands steadfast among enormous trees on the banks of the Sand River and offers guests a fresh and contemporary interpretation of classic safaris. Combining the design highlights of tented camps and bush lodges, the original Singita lodge was inspired by the adventure and charm of old-world explorers’ camps and features campaign furniture, natural fibres and polished wood. Each of the 12 luxurious suites includes its own private plunge pool and almost all external walls have been replaced with glass and canvas to optimise views and space. Outdoor decks suspended off the river banks invite laidback dining and relaxing, allowing guests to be fully immersed in the natural surrounds. This idyllic family retreat is set in the heart of South Africa’s Big Cat country and the lodge features two Lewis suites right next to each other – ideal for families with teenage children; as well as two family suites that are perfect for families with small children. An exclusive-use villa – comprising two family suites – offers a full staff complement and complete seclusion. Located in Singita Sabi Sand in South Africa, Ebony Lodge provides guests with access to 45,000 acres of an incredible wildlife sanctuary that’s renowned for its high concentrations of big game and frequent leopard sightings.

My wife and I just returned from Singita Ebony lodge in the Sabie Sands and to put it in a nutshell words cannot do justice to the beauty and brilliance of any Singita Lodge
Singita in general in my opinion have the best safari lodges in the world. I was lucky enough to stay at both Lebombo and Ebony lodge, both lodges are uniquely different but at the same time unforgettable, both having there distinctive features.
Back to Ebony Lodge, the lodge is set in a classic colonial style décor, which is breath taking, from the time you enter the lodge reception you are awed by the beauty and attention to detail that went into decorating the place, beautiful subtle and vibrant colours all cleverly arranged to catch your eye and grab your attention to smaller details.
The staff or should I say “extended family” are amazing, every one introduces themselves from General manager to room attendants and they all remember your name and when they see you in passing by they greet you by name, which I found to be amazing, because to me that made me feel welcome and a personal connection with everyone there.
Our butler Sandile was exceptionally amazing always anticipating our every need before we even ask, bringing us our favourite drinks without ordering, going the extra mile by going out of his way to make us feel comfortable and feel at home.
The rooms are to die for, heated plunge pool, fireplace, lounge, changing room, indoor shower, outdoor shower, pool deck, pool loungers, outside lounge and reading tables all overlooking the vast plains of wildlife and the flowing of the river, watch from your room as the animals come down to play and wallow in the river, the birds swooping down to catch fish and the animals grazing in the background. We saw hippo, elephants, buffalo, zebra, antelope all from our room and the quaint breakfast and dining area.
Every luxury that you can think of is the room and the special surprises (you have to be there to experience it) that they do are amazing, your mini bar after the first night gets stocked with your favourite drinks and stocked with your favourite snacks.
Our guide Francious and the tracker Sandile where amazing, ensuring the best game viewing possible. I have been to other private lodges but Singita comes out top for the game viewing, 100yards away from prides of lions, herds of elephant, rhino, packs of hyena and all other general game. They are patient and professional allowing you to decide on how long the sighting should be and constantly keep in touch with other guides to ensure optimal game viewing.
They see animal tracks on the road (that I can’t even begin to explain on how they do it), then follow them and eventually find the animals sometimes up to ½ a mile off the road. Sandile grabs his gun (protection only) and heads of into the thick bush, 30min to an hour goes by and he radios back to Francious and we head into the bush in the Landrover to find the Sandile and not too far off the pride of lions. These guys are soo skilled and knowledgeable it is unbelievable, no question goes unanswered and after every sighting you are left in awe.
For my wife and I who have been on Safari over 20 times, the best and most outstanding sighting was to see the resident female leopard and her cubs playing in there den. This for us was the highlight of our trip and something that we will never forget.
I can probably go on for hours possibly even days about Singita but my advice would be if you are looking to go on Safari anywhere in Africa or South Africa, you have to choose Singita, they exceed and surpass any possible expectation that you might have and go out there way to make you feel at home. Singita a African Safari MUST.

Our stay here was our first Singita experience. Everything was incredible- the game drives, the view from our villa, the villa itself, and the people. We were spoiled forever. The wildlife viewing was unlike any we have experienced before. Only one example should suffice. A leopard had lost her cub and our guide and tracker found her as she walked about, presumably searching, and calling. While there were other vehicles from the lodge out in the bush, we were alone while we viewed the leopard. When we left, another vehicle would come to observe. Also to our pleasure we could walk and walk we did, accompanied by our guide and tracker. Walking in the bush is a completely different experience than sitting in a vehicle and should not be missed. Usually there were four or five of us in the open vehicle.

Our villa was perfect; the plunge pool a delight. We also enjoyed the wonderful view from the breakfast/lunch terrace- again overlooking the river, and the offerings of fruits, hot dishes, etc. And, of course, there is the complimentary wine, with choices from some excellent South Africa wineries.

From the moment we walked onto the property we were cherished. The room, the bed, the deck, the plunge pool...just wow! The food and service were impeccable and never pretentious. Our guide Coleman and tracker Tembo were fun and learned “camp counselors”. They greeted us every morning and evening and came to the airstrip to send us off. We felt the love for what they do. We were the beneficiaries of that love. We will always be grateful for the memory and experience of a lifetime.

It was an honour to welcome you to our little slice of heaven and we are thrilled that you loved every aspect of your stay with us. Coleman and Themba are two peas in a pod and their amazing chemistry shows on game drives. The love that one gets for the bush is infectious and when you get to share that with people who will also cherish it, it is a great honour. Keep that love strong and keep the memories front and centre, until next time. Regards, Kenny Smith Lodge Manager - Singita Ebony Lodge

Look no further - Singita Ebony Lodge is the best! We loved it all!

The game was simply amazing and our guide and spotter, Danie and Golden, were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and fun. We had a blast and saw amazing animals in action nearly non-stop. It was as if they were summoning the animals on command. Leopard - here’s one. Rhino - here you go. Lion cubs - viola! Wild dog pups - check! Really?!

The service was out of this world! The staff takes the time to get to know you and takes any and all steps to ensure a great experience. Ben - half court jester / half hyena, was clearly a standout for his great personality, stories and interaction with guests. Likewise, the rest of the dream team, including Bromlyn, Tumelo and Chantal - were also spectacular.

How about the food? Wow - so delicious throughout and honestly, such an upside surprise. Kudos to the chef and his team! Similarly, the wine was superb and the somm was again, very knowledgeable, personable and accommodative. Oh - and the room? I mean, really? Taking a shower and watching elephants walk by or jumping in the great plunge pool and gazing at the passing giraffes - are you kidding me?!

I can’t even put proper words to the experience that we enjoyed at Singita and how wonderful, fun and engaging we found all of their employees. I can’t wait to return and made a case that they should hire me as a Monkey Minder apprentice - fingers crossed!

We spent 3 nights here with my 8 year old daughter and 70+ year old parents. It was terrific for everyone and the staff went out of their way to make sure everyone's needs and desires were attended to. The setting is incredible and the service is impeccable. Our rooms were luxurious and homey at once. The vervet monkeys at breakfast were adorable (despite stealing our bread) and on safari we saw everything. Our tracker, in particular, was a delight, so committed to making sure we saw everything.

This lodge was truly the jewel in the crown of our journey to southern Africa. Last on the itinerary we were thrilled that this spot would be the absolute best part of the trip. Reading the other reviews made my mouth water for the food and brought smiles to my face recalling the quality of service from the staff. Nothing is overlooked and every detailed is tended to. In addition to menu, the kitchen will cook anything you ask for. We participated in two game drives per day. They also offer archery and star gazing if you wish. Don't miss out on the walking game drive that allows you to see many of the smaller creatures that inhabit the area. There is simply no better place to stay and I look forward to my next trip, this time with even more of the family.

We stayed here at the weekend having previously visited another Singita property, Lembomo and whilst both lodges are different in style, they both deliver an exceptional customer experience.
The rooms were stunning with marvelous views over the river where you can sit on your private stoop and watch elephants and game wander by.
We were accompanied on the game drives by Ross Couper who was outstanding, his knowledge of the bush and camera help were invaluable and made for our best game experience.
If you want the best of the Sabi region, this is it.
Also look at Boulders or Castleton, other Singita properties which are both equally outstanding in terms of style and staff excellence!

I stay at two Singita resorts on honeymoon - Ebony and Sweni. The experience was unbelievable.

The guides and trackers are professional and dedicated to making sure every guest has exactly the experience they desire. Despite having a mix of veteran safari go-ers and first timers they managed to make sure everyone saw exactly what they were most keen to see.

On the occasions we had a vehicle to ourselves the guides got up early and stayed out late to accommodate our enthusiasm.

Obviously the facilities are top notch and food Michelin-star restaurant standard and that's before Singita have gone out of their way to personalise the experience. I received a separate menu each and every night as I didn't eat seafood and they coordinate lodge-wide events like baumas and dining under the stars to make sure no guest misses out.

My only complaint is that Singita may have spoiled me for life - I can't imagine how any other hotel / resort will ever compare!
