We stayed at Varty Camp for 4 nights in late Sept. 2024 as the center of our Honeymoon. Londolozi came highly recommended as it is known as the gold standard for safaris to tourists and locals alike. Pick the room the aligns with your budget, as we were thrilled with our room, private deck/pool, and central location of Varty. You’ll adapt the tempo of a morning and evening game drive, with the perfect amount of free time mid day to relax. Upon leaving it was clear that Londolozi prioritizes its people, their environment & wildlife, and guest experience over all else.

A few highlights:
Game Drives - the Ranger & Tracker duo that you will be paired with for your whole stay makes the difference. We saw everything we had on our list, which was very much by design of Bryce & Terrance.
Food - Every meal was delicious, as they get to know each guests preferences, with plenty of options. We felt that our meals here matched some of the best dinning Cape Town had to offer.
People / Service - They’ve set the bar extremely high by design. The small touches of our Boma dinners, morning coffee/sundowner 'Sonics', and attentive staff made all the difference. It was evident that much thought and planning went into making sure our experience was the best possible.

Lessons Learned:
-Shoulder seasons are a great time to visit, so research this before hand. We had perfect weather for our entire stay - cooler morning & evenings with pool weather mid-day.
-Don’t overpack - like much of South Africa, it is casual - I wore flip flops, shorts, and a beach sun shirt for one of the warmer drives. A good safari hat, Sunblock, and bug spray is the key.

2026 is their centennial, which we hope to be back for!

Our stay at the Londolozi Varty Camp in October 2023 was perfect in every way! From the moment we arrived at the Skukuza airport to our departure, no detail was overlooked and executed to perfection. The staff, hospitality, atmosphere, accommodations, wine and food were five stars. And the game drives….. What a wonderful and memorable experience! Lead by a very professional guide and tracker who provided opportunities to see no less than four of the five “Big 5” and countless other animals on every game drive. This while often becoming part of their natural habitat through their efforts to get us close to the wildlife which can only be accomplished through an off road experience.

Just the right amount of down time was provided on each day’s itinerary to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings and spa at Londolozi. We also had the opportunity to tour the camp where over 200 dedicated Londolozi staff members live to make this such an amazing place. The tour also provided insights on the commitment of Londolozi to offer continuing education for all staff in an eco friendly and self sustainable environment.

Londolozi is without a doubt worthy of its reputation as the most prestigious game reserve in South Africa and the highlight of our 20 day visit to a beautiful country. We truly look forward to becoming one of the many return visitors at Londolozi.

Our family had been to Londolozi on a few occasions prior to the pandemic and we recently spent an incredible few days together back at this phenomenal resort.

( family of 10 spent 5 nights and my wife and I stayed on another 4 nights )

Given our previous visits it was hard to see Londolozi getting any better from prior to the pandemic, as we are only visiting now again for the first time since Covid , but in our opinion, they have got incrementally better . This is not easy as the standard was very high before.

The food was definitely better . ( not that it was bad before ) More choices was the name of the game . We were always offered so many options that more than covered the age differences of our family ( 10 - 63 years )

I requested a “ stew” or Pooitjie each night as an additional option and every stew was cooked slowly to perfection. Congratulations to the kitchen staff and particular thanks to Mandla and Virginia in Pioneer Camp where our family spent all our time . As Pioneer camp could not accommodate all of us , my wife and I spent nights also at Varty and Tree Camp . Our WiFi was also very good and much improved on our last visit . You just connect to the Room number that you are in and you are instantly on . No fuss . Quality was excellent for so deep in the bush . Our family had also asked for a few special fun things to do and the staff went beyond the call of duty to assist us . The soccer game , fishing expedition, bush walk , morning sunrise 🌄 on the mountain with dancing and our “ SURVIVOR “ family challenge were so well organized. Huge thanks here to Jordan our camp manager at Pioneer and our “ Old Ranger Team “ of James and Sean . Our family game drives were incredibly special and we saw absolutely everything. The Big 5 regularly and cheetah , wild dog and pangolin to boot . Incredible excitement as we joined the Wild Dogs and Cheetah hunting and witnessed phenomenal sights . How can you ask for more .

Congratulations to our Trackers Gesholm and Elvet who also showed us their dancing skills on the mountain. There are too many names to mention overall at Londolozi but a special shout out to Trevor , our incredible smiling Butler at Pioneer . Also to Ashleigh ( Pofie) who ran around my wife and I at Tree Camp at the end of our stay . Additional help from Phil and Will also made it a perfect visit .( My grand children voted the pizza from Phil the best they ever had )

Congratulations to you and your team Duncan .

If there is another Lodge out there that is better than Londi’s , then I have not found it yet . It’s certainly an unforgettable memory for all the family in a relatively short space of time . Whilst it’s a premium price at Londi’s , in our view you get incredible value every second of every day .

We can highly recommend this resort to anyone , anywhere in the world . You will not be disappointed.

We will be back soon . Thanks to all at Londolozi for our special time together as a family .

This was one of the most incredible experiences we have ever had. We stayed in Varty camp and everything was perfect. The rooms and view were gorgeous. All the staff were extremely friendly and every single one went out of their way to help make our stay unforgettable. Our tracker was Equalizer and our guide was Kate. Both were very excited to show us the animals and shared a ton of knowledge. We have been lucky enough to be on other safaris in South Africa and Southern Africa and this simply was the best for the following reasons;
1) Having a guide and a tracker with 2 sets of eyes helps you find a lot more animals and allows the guests to talk with and ask questions of one of them while the other is still looking and listening.
2) All the guides and trackers communicate multiple times a day so they all know what was seen where and allows them to coordinate so as many guests as possible can see the animals without overwhelming the animals with a ton of guests at one time. All the other safaris we basically drove around and crossed our fingers.
3) There are a lot of amenities for the staff as well, including day care, and schooling. I think this becoming very common that these safaris engage the local communities and offer them something beyond wages but clearly Londolozzi is doing a whole lot more. You should ask do the "village tour" which takes you behind the scenes to where the staff live and farm and play and many other things. It takes maybe an hour.
4) The food and drink are simply great.
5) We are not photographers so we did not do this but everyone else who attended the photography workshop raved about how helpful and fun it was to do and they came out with some amazing pictures.

Some things in general about safaris
1) Most of them do complementary laundry service so you don't need to bring that many clothes with you.
2) Bring binoculars. Most of the guides have them but you can always use more.
3) Bring warm clothes for early morning safari. Eventhough they will likely have blankets, ponchos ect, its still nice to bring your own

Some things specific to Londolozzi
1) Our guide Kate had sun screen for us. Unless you are going to lay out and tan you can leave this at home as she has enough for your face each day.
2) The "Sleepy Time" bug spray they have in each room worked great and there was plenty for us to use.
3) Boyd Varty has written a number of books available on amazon, including Cathedral of the Wild, all are available in the gift shop too.
4) We didn't know about this at the time but on amazon is a book, "Tracker Manual" by Alex van den Heever et al. Its used by the Tracker Academy that works a lot on Londolozzis property. Eventhough you see a lot you obviously spend more time looking for animals than seeing them, but their tracks are everywhere so if we have had this on us we could have spent a lot more time "seeing". also the trackers get really excited talking about the tracks and there is a lot of fun things to learn just from the tracks themselves.

Overall this was truly an epic experience!!!!!!

Everything was perfect and beyond our expectations. We stayed in 2 rooms at the Founder's Camp with our children (20, 18, 17) for 5 days and 4 nights . The accommodations were outstanding and perfect for our stay. The rooms are luxuriously appointed and have outdoor areas that are a wonderful place to spend your downtime after safari . The staff greeted us upon arrival and truly looked after us from the moment we arrived. Rob and Hannah were wonderful camp hosts and made sure everything was perfect. Our safari guide (Jess) and tracker (Advice) were so personable, knowledgeable, and friendly on each of our drives. They answered all of our questions and were so helpful in providing insight into the animals' behaviors and habitat. We truly felt like we had the best staff at our service. The food selection and quality is outstanding as well - breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eating on the patio overlooking the Sabi River is quite a relaxing and enjoyable experience. During our stay, we saw the magnificent 7 (rhino, elephant, buffalo, lion, leopard, wild dog, and cheetah) and over 30+ different animal species in total (my daughter kept track). Almost all were up close and personal encounters. We have only the best of compliments to give to the staff at Londolozi. They are truly focused on making sure your experience is the best possible and they delivered. The memories that we have of Londolozi will be cherished forever. We are so fortunate to have been able to experience Londolozi. At the end of our stay, we truly felt that we were leaving family.

On a side note, I purchased the book The Full Circle by Dave Varty at the gift shop on site and would highly recommend it to anyone who has visited Londolozi or is interested in South African safari history. It added perspective to the incredible place that is Londolozi and the journey that the Varty family took to make it a reality.

Londolozi should be your only choice for a safari experience in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve. From the moment you arrive on the airstrip when your ranger and tracker pick you up to the moment they bring you back to the airstrip to depart and wave goodbye as you plane takes off, you will be treated to the most exceptional experience you will ever have. Their attention to detail and to meeting every expectation is second to none. From the lovely breakfasts and lunches to the open air dinners your culinary desires will be met. Their location is amazing in the game reserve and you will see all of the animals you came to see - multiple times. You start with a 6:30am game drive and end with a 3:30pm game drive in the winter months which is when we visited. Game drives last about 3 hours. In between you will have breakfast and lunch and have leisure time to relax by the pool or on your private deck. The Healing House is wonderful and I do recommend a spa treatment while you are there. The shop for souvenirs is small but has some lovely things to remind you of your trip. Spend some time in the photography studio to maximize your pictures as they will help you edit and develop your photos into the perfect souvenir. We stayed 5 nights which seemed to be the perfect amount of time to take in all that Londolozi has to offer. As you can see from other reviews this place is top notch and you can book with confidence that you will have an incredible time. Food was outstanding for breakfast and lunch and good for dinner where it is prepared buffet style outside. Melvin our ranger and Milton our tracker were outstanding. We laughed with them the whole time we were with them. You spend 6 hours a day with your assigned range and tracker so you get to know them pretty well. My wife cried everyday because of the beauty of Londolozi and because of the way the people there treated us. When it was time to say goodbye on the airstrip to our ranger and tracker we all cried and hugged and promised to see each other again. We have booked a return trip in 2026 and hope to see all of our friends again. We can't wait. Don't wait to book your safari - life is short and this is the place that you will want to spend your time in South Africa.

Stayed 3 nights at Londolozi and had an absolutely incredible experience. While it was expensive, the value of the experience far outweighs the cost. The staff is exceptional, the facilities are unbelievable and the game drives are an experience of a lifetime. My stay made me wish there were more hours in a day so I could enjoy more of what they have to offer. When I arrived, lunch was served with a view over the Sand River with elephants snacking on the foliage and giraffe in the distance. The guides and trackers are super-knowledgeable and each day was better than the last. I have traveled internationally for over 40 years and have done a couple of photo salaries and Londolozi is at the top of my list of experiences. I can’t wait to go back!

This was our second visit, and was as enjoyable as the first. The staff is amazing, from manager to housekeepers. The safaris are outstanding, and our ranger Dean and tracker Ray (same great tracker as our first trip) did a great job in finding lots of animals to see,- each trip was to a different location so you saw a lot. The meals were fantastic. The rooms would make you seem you are in a five star hotel, well, until you sat on your deck and watched the elephants walk by - then you knew you were in the bush in a “resort”.

Our group of three couples stayed at Founders camp for three nights to enjoy the ultimate in safari experiences. The quality and friendliness of the staff is what really stands out for me at Londo’s - they are all extremely passionate about working there and are totally centred on ensuring that your stay is memorable. Our camp manager Shannon stood out with her friendly and attentive approach and nothing was to much of an effort for her. She was well supported by a team of butlers and barmen who were equally polished.

Meals were exceptional and I loved the plated options for breakfast, lunch and dinner as opposed to a buffet. An absolute highlight was when Shannon surprised our party with a dinner in a secluded dry river bed that was beautifully adorned with dozens of lanterns hanging from trees and a spread of food and drinks which were enjoyed around a stunning logfire.

The game viewing is exceptional at Londo’s - after all the rain it was green and lush and yielded some excellent sightings. Robbie our ranger and Trevor the tracker were an excellent team who managed to make every game drive memorable and all six drives yielded spectacular sightings of leopard, rhino, wild dog, lion and plenty of general game. When there were quieter game viewing moments Robbie was on top of his birds and enthusiastically pointed out many of the unusual birds. The bush was incredibly green and beautiful

Our chalet was spacious and beautifully appointed and had its own plunge pool on the edge of the deck with a stunning view over the Sand river.

We absolutely loved our three nights and highly recommend Londolozi as the ultimate safari destination

The most special experience I’ve ever had on vacation. The property was divine—understated to stay aligned with nature but elevated through every turn and space you enter. The food was exquisite, not a single miss. Everything was fresh and delectable. The staff became family so quickly. We didn’t give them a night off as we enjoyed spending time with them. The rides are twice a day and you should take advantage of each one—they are all different and unique. Our guide Patrick and Dorian were the best to ever do it! Think about this trip often!

How do you decide which camp to stay in? What are the differences between camps?
Londolozi Private Game Reserve
Hi Shirley, Children under the age of 16 are not allowed at Tree Camp and the Private Granite Suites unless these camps have been reserved for exclusive use. These two camps offer a level of luxury on safari of the highest order. The Tree Camp has 6 suites nestled in the leadwood tree canopy, serving as a sanctuary of elegance and simplicity. You can enjoy the African landscape in this opulent camp while relaxing on the Tree Camp deck during the afternoon as the wildlife pass through the river below. The Private Granite Suites are a celebration of elegance and elephants. You can enjoy a luxurious private outdoor bath that looks over the river as elephants wander by. Pioneer Camp can be booked by families and couples alike. This camp is the most secluded and flexible camp at Londolozi. The suites are superb for a honeymoon, each suite offering amazing river views. For a different occasion, the camp can easily be converted into a homestead for families with children of various ages, having the ability to host groups of 6 to 12 people. Varty Camp and Founders Camp are slightly larger and perfect for families and small groups going on safari. These camps accept children of six years and older. Families can request interlinked ‘skywalk’ rooms so parents and children can visit each other without venturing out into the bush. Varty Camp is the symbolic heart of Londolozi, having existed for almost 100 years. Founders Camp, with its bushveld Bohemian feeling, has 7 Superior Chalets and 3 Superior Family Chalets, that pay homage to past guests and staff that helped build the Londolozi Game Reserve. Some of the activities included during your stay at this camp are the Londolozi Photographic Studio, Living Boutique as well as easy access to the Yoga Deck at Founders Camp.
Londolozi Private Game Reserve
Hi Meghan, Thank you for your question. May marks the beginning of winter at Londolozi. While we do have the odd few warm days during our winter months, it is far more pleasant to use our plunge pools during our warmer months, from September to April. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask or visit our website. Much love, The Londolozi Family.

Londolozi Private Game Reserve
Hi Amidave, Unfortunately we welcome children from 5 years and older to Londolozi. From a wildlife viewing perspective we feel that children from this age and above are able to better enjoy the experience and are also able to abide by safety instructions. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to ask or visit our website. Much love, The Londolozi Family
