Very clean, appears recently remodeled. Walls very very thin, could hear every footstep above us. No deadbolts on doors, simply a locking door knob. Would prefer more security. Very dark, lights out when we arrived. Needs more lighting and newer beds. Exceptionally clean. No air conditioning... Got very warm but did not feel safe leaving window open all night.
The hotel is in a great location. They are renovating the rooms, so it is nice for a 2-star hotel. The downside of this Econolodge is the very limited service. The front desk is staffed only from about 9-5, so you are pretty much on your own if you arrive or leave outside of those hours. They leave your room key on a board outside the office, which makes security questionable, but they say they have never had a problem. They post a number you can call if you need anything, but we got no response to our messages, and the contact person explained later that his phone had died. Even when you call the hotel during business hours, you might get the hotel, or you might get the RV park down the road that has the same management. The RV park people tell you to just keep calling back until the hotel answers. And even when you do that, the hotel staff seems pretty scattered and overwhelmed, and in our case didn’t make the arrangements they promised. Everyone you talk with is very nice, just not very effective. Overall, a good place to stay if everything goes smoothly, but challenging if you ever need customer service from a human being. …
Easy access to Angel Fire, Red River or Cimarron NM. Clean, comfortable, lots of hot water and towels, and good breakfast options. Decent internet to surf the net and read my e-mails. The staff was friendly and informative. Stayed here 4 days and was very happy with my choice. Econo Lodge, Eagle Nest is a good place to stay!
Conveniently located on the east side of town with a lake view. Rooms are comfortable and clean, rates are reasonable. Breakfast is included. Close to the Cimarron River and next to the lake if you are fishing. 11 miles to Angel Fire.
If you are planning to drive down to Philmont, a word of warning. The search feature shows a distance of 18 miles, but by road it is actually about 27 miles and a 45 minute drive, so allow plenty of time. Enjoyed our stay, our room was clean. It appears they are remodeling, so it will be even better next time. The breakfast had a good selection for an Econolodge. The staff was friendly, and hopefully we will be able to visit the area again and stay with them.
