We stayed there in march, and just lots of little things kept happening over the 2 nights there. (keys, safes, staff access to master keys) and I just left thinking... "if only". Val du Charron is a working wine and olive estate situated in the Cape Winelands close to the town of Wellington. You truly feel at home when staying on the estate and one gets that home away from home feeling. Guests have the choice to either stay in the 5* Coach House or 4* Guesthouse. We stayed in the Guesthouse...

On Monday 6 March, we went to The Local Grill at Val du Charron. We were welcomed in such a way that you immediately felt at home. The food and the wine was excellent. If there was a better word for the hole experience, I would have used it. The waitress took a already awesome experience, to an amazing one....

We only stayed the one night but had a lovely experience. Large room, very good restaurant with a magnificent view, great wines; very nice breakfast. Friendly and efficient waiters and hosts. It was a little noisy in the morning (kitchen noises?) and we had some trouble finding the place (mind that you spell the name of the road correctly!) but...

It was nice to sit with a glass of wine looking across the valley to the mystical mountains. The Coach House rooms were spacious and very well furnished, it was a luxury to stay although both the plunge pool and the main pool were small. The restaurant offered wine tasting and a good selection of steaks.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Val du Charron guest house is located on a working farm in the heart of the Bovlei valley, ten minutes from the town of Wellington and less than an hour's drive from Cape Town. The guest house comprises nine luxurious suites, each individually furnished. The Coach House is a boutique Winelands getaway for the discerning guest who values their privacy. Consisting of only three spacious suites, each with its own plunge pool and private patio with built in wood burning fireplace, guests can unwind in their own space overlooking the majestic Winelands and mountains. Guests can enjoy a full farmer's breakfast served in the dining area; which integrates with the wine tasting facility and allows guests to access the working cellar during the day. For a holistic view of the wine making process or simply to enjoy the tranquility of the farm, a number of walks and bike rides have been set up around the farm that highlight aspects such as the various cultivars of wine grown, the bee hives necessary to pollinate the vines and the dams that catch and supply the farm with all its water. Guests may also fish the basis for bass on a catch and releases basis.During Wellington's hot summer months a swimming pool is available for the exclusive use of guests.During the winter months large fire places with couches provide ambiance for board games or reading while sipping on a glass of Val du Charron's premium wine. ... more   less
