Stayed in the so-called Presidential suite, but really nothing Presidential about it. Furniture is old and outdated and the facilities very limited. The spa bath was not working and the WiFi non-existent. The suite is in close proximity to the labour houses on the farm and music was playing loud until very late at night. The views from the suite towards the mountain is breathtaking, but overal disappointment, especially considering the price you pay.

Superb location, venue and team at Val Du Charron. A great place to begin a holiday after a long flight. The food and wine were excellent and the team were full of joy, a credit to all. We are slowly sampling the wines, remembering the information on our road trip.

Absolutely breathtaking estate with views for days! We were very lucky to get an upgrade on our room to one of the five star private cottages, and wow, what an experience. Beautiful, clean, spacious room with a private pool and fireplace as well as a beautiful private outside patio to enjoy meals by the pool al fresco. The staff were all friendly, welcoming and very helpful. The restaurants (both the Grillroom and Vista Pizza) had the most amazing, delicious dishes and lovely wines, and value for money as well. We will definitely recommend and would love to visit again!

Our recent stay at Val Du Charron was underwhelming. The most noticeable issue was the staffing; it seemed they were severely understaffed, which affected the overall service quality. Despite requests, it took a significant amount of time for items to be delivered to our room. The condition of the pool was disappointing - it remained dirty even after cleaning was supposedly done. While the room itself was clean, it lacked modernity. The finishes and decor appeared outdated and not well-maintained, indicating a lack of attention to detail in the upkeep of the facilities. Overall, the experience did not meet our expectations for the price we paid.

I booked three rooms for my family based on the pictures advertised on the website- the website describes the rooms as - Val du Charron’s 4 star Guesthouse invites young and old, business and leisure travellers to enjoy the beauty of the Cape winelands with all the convenience you would expect from luxury accommodation. With 18 en suite rooms each with its own balcony, you can soak in the views while you enjoy a cold drink from the minibar or a gourmet coffee from the in-room drinks station- What hogwash! The views are wonderful from most rooms- provided that these rooms are allocated to you! Unfortunately the views are the only good thing I can say about Val Du Charron. We were given room 28 and I will attach pictures of the view from our balcony. Only after kicking up one helluva fuss were we moved to room 21. We experienced multiple issues with the hotel- the manager Evans was not very helpful at all. I invited him for a drink on our balcony , asked him to sit down and comment on our view. He agreed with me that the view was dismal! Looking at green pipes, a dilapidated building and heatpumps! I have attached pictures. To mention a few observations- no water was provided in our rooms, apparently it is only given to the 5 star room guests and not the 4 star room guests - room 2 did not have a fridge- no mini bar in any of our rooms -the curtain fittings are old and tired! For a 4 star hotel , everything is tired, even the flowers displayed were wilted, I will post a picture of this. -the balcony is dirty and furniture and railing rusted 21, picture attached - I booked three rooms together- were were allocated rooms 2 and 3 - why did I get the WORST room- room 28- in the hotel? Only room 8 on the ground floor can be worse than room 28 -Evans confirmed to me that he made reservation at the Pizza Vista on the same premises. When I got there, no booking was made?? More opinions about the Pizza Vista will be posted separately and the poor management there! - a 4 star hotel that does not offer cappuccinos or latte`s as part of the breakfast menu- TERRIBLE! It must be paid for, ie. additional costs !! - your breakfast menu is so restrictive- I advise the Val Du Charron management to go to the Knysna Quays hotel, the Tulbagh Boutique hotel, Sky Villa hotel, Excelsior wine estate accommodation or even the Jan Harmsgat in Swellendam to ask what they offer for breakfast! This to me is a severe shortcoming and the Val Du Charron should go and learn from the aforementioned establishments. - I had to laugh when we were asked to present breakfast vouchers by Evans- that is so archaic- last experienced that more than a decade ago -common courtesy and decency it would have been for the hotel management to call me and explain that room 28 is not like the 18 rooms they advertised- this amounts to false advertising A most disappointing stay and the place needs to pull themselves together. To call themselves a 4 and 5 star establishment and perform so poorly, yet they are quick to take the unsuspecting customers` money with ease! Just not right!! Tip: Make sure to ask for a room with advertised views- Definitely NOT rooms 8 and 28

Val du Charron may not be located near the more well-known centres of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek but we are so pleased that we found this gem of a place. The scenery round here is stunning and we were in awe at the grandeur of the setting. We were made most welcome and the friendliness of the staff never wavered from start to finish of our three-night stay. Breakfasts and evening meals were excellent and there is an option to dine at the Pizza restaurant. Our room - 27 - on the first floor was very quiet. While in the area, do not miss the drive along the spectacular Bains Kloof Pass.

Absolutely stunning estate with all amenities required for a lovely stay. Restaurant food was amazing and wine tasting was so good! Although restaurant was understaffed at the time of our stay so food was quite slow coming out of the kitchen.

It's a lovely place to stay at, however, the following could be improved: * Inside of shower is mouldy and not cleaned properly * Bath was dirty and had to be cleaned before use * Water from the bath tap was brown Overall the service at the hotel was average.
