There is no pool at the lodge, but simply walking down the grass embankment gets you to the Breederiver where swimming is a must!
The lodge provides river rafting, ab-sailing, pooltables, table tennis. Breakfast, lunch and dinner is provides with prior booking. The food is AMAZING.
The guides that take you on the river is exceptional good and well informed about the area. They are very professional, even if know you personally.

Our family (2 adults + 2 teens) came to On The Bend and Felix Unite for river rafting. I did not expect much of the accommodation, which was rustic but adequate, but the hospitality was outstanding and the setting in the river bend just breath taking. The catering was hearty with a number of extras and my vegetarian was accommodated. They lit a bonfire just for the 4 of us.

The rafting activity was grand. The river was slow according to our guides but it was perfect for us.

I can't recommend Felix Unite enough for an overall highlight experience. Jade in particular facilitated a great experience both on and off the river

This is absolute value for money! The accommodation and facilities is so well kept and the staff is amazing! The river-guides (Kyfie, Oliver, Jade and Ginger) and the lodge staff (Gouws, Charne, Liezel and Louise) made the weekend extra special. They all went out of their way to make this a memmorable experience. I will highly recommend this for a getaway!

I stayed as part of an organised group holiday. The weather was poor prior and during the stay (one night) which may have impacted my experience but it can’t change the facts. The setting is lovely and the staff were friendly. Food provided was basic but adequate. Free drinks were available in the meeting room which replaced room facilities which was a nice touch.
Now for the negatives. To describe it as rustic is true but after my experience I would go as far as “rough and rustic”. My issues are with the poor upkeep of facilities, safety and hygiene. It isn’t a 5* hotel so I didn’t go expecting thick carpets, a 50” TV and Wi-Fi. What I would expect is a clean room/cabin without a leaky roof, dry bedding, clean bathroom facilities, and safe furniture (without splintered wood and nails). The wooden pathways are lethal, particularly those up to the top cabins. They’re a real safety hazard particularly in the wet weather, even with proper walking shoes. Be careful!. I slipped as did other members of our group. Not the best stay when you leave with bruises.
This is certainly a beautiful setting but could be so much better if some money was spent to update and improve facilities making it safe and pleasant for visitors in all weathers.

We had a wonderful time with Felix Unite and enjoyed the accommodation and facilities at Round the Bend Lodge. The river guides - Reuben, Jade and Cafey - were professional yet relaxed and fun. The activities, meal times were very well organised and the food tasty. The accommodation, though quite simple is more than adequate for a weekend away. Thank you!

Myself and my partner spent the weekend of the 7th until the 10th of October at around the bend river Lodge. The guides Kuifie and Jade was excellent and very knowledgeable. The barman Gousie was an exceptional host. We had the perfect weather. The food was five star and we got so much food to eat. Everything was well organized. Good value for money. All and all 5 star rating!!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

I've stayed at Round The Bend seven or eight times since 2011, and it remains one of my favourite locations on the African continent. Let's be clear on the context: This is a riverside camp, first and foremost, and exists to cater to people wanting to get away from the city lights and into the great outdoors. As such, you can expect aspects of it to be a little rustic; that, right there, is going to be part of its charm.

RTB is basically four distinct components, if you like: There's the lodge itself; the huts (basic accommodation); the villas (Aloe Ridge); and, of course, the outdoors itself.

I'll also add that while RTB began its days as a river camp as part of guided rafting trips along the Breede River, my visits have been for work. I've had limited opportunity to play on the river or use the guide services, so my observations should be considered accordingly.

Overall, Alain and his team do a splendid job- and have done since my first visit. They are friendly, enthusiastic, responsive and client-focused. The staff present with a family vibe, and there's a real sense that some of the younger team-members are being carefully and deliberately groomed within the industry, not just brought in, used up and discarded. This shows in the dedication that the team brings. The kitchen staff as well are delightful- always warm and welcoming, and a pleasure to interact with.

The lodge is a classic bush-lodge style- thatched roof, exposed timber beams, a gorgeous open fireplace in the main bar/restaurant area, and lots of rustic atmosphere. The bar is long and a super place to hang out at the end of a busy day. There's a deck outside around a firepit, and another firepit down by the river, and the setting is just delightful, with views over the river itself and a lovely well-kept lawn, and nature from horizon to horizon. The food served is always hearty (with a good South African emphasis on meat, meat and meat- beautifully prepared, tender and full of flavour).

The huts close to the river are small, simple A-frame affairs, just wider than 2 single beds, with a compact bathroom tagged on the back. They are most definitely rustic; again, wooden beams and thatched roofs. The showers and sinks use river-water which is fine for washing but not for drinking, and heating is by gas heaters in each bathroom. This is a bush camp, so these aren't luxurious- but they have their own charm. Be aware, there is of course wildlife, this being nature. There are rain spiders in the thatching (harmless but large), and snakes and scorpions on the property as well. This shouldn't come as a big surprise to anybody, but there you have it. The mosquito nets are there for a reason... Sometimes grit from the thatching lands on the beds. This is nature.

The *really* lovely thing about the huts is the quiet. Once people bed down for the night, the stillness out here is a tangible thing. The team will proudly tell you this is God's Country, and I for one won't argue with them.

If you *are* looking for a little more of a treat, then the newer Aloe Ridge villas have been built on an overlook above the river a little further away from the lodge, and they are spectacular. Large stone homes with high ceilings, again with the exposed wooden beams and thatched roofs, each villa has two double-ensuite bedrooms and a shared lounge/kitchenette/wet-bar between them, a deck with a plunge pool, and stunning 180-degree views of the river valley and the sunset. The villas themselves are set in natural scrubland, well spaced so they don't peer over one another's shoulders. The bedrooms and living rooms all have large sliding doors that open onto the deck, so the rooms can be opened right out onto the view, bringing nature indoors, and are light and airy. The bathrooms are roomy, and there's a lovely outdoor shower behind each room as well.

(Note you will *still* get rain spiders inside Aloe Ridge, and even the odd scorpion; it's an unavoidable side-effect of the thatching.)

The natural surrounds of the place are gorgeous. The property is set at the end of a twenty-minute drive down pitted gravel roads, amidst rolling farmland of Western Cape, along a quarter-mile of the Breede River valley. The river itself varies from being a lazy, oversized creek, to a pretty wild torrent, depending on rains and season. The area is rolling hills and scrubland, with few signs of civilization in the immediate vicinity, mostly farms further out, and a gorgeous backrop of the rugged Langeberg mountains behind. The night skies are spectacular, with unpolluted views of the Milky Way, and the silence at the end of the day is good for the soul.

All up, I dearly look forward to each return visit I make to Round the Bend. Reading some of the other reviews here, it suggests that some folks have rocked up with expectations that RTB is something it isn't. But if you're looking for an experience away from the stress and busy-ness of the world, you can either go for the basic huts and enjoy a bit of rustic bushcamp lifestyle, or shell out for a stay in the gorgeous Aloe Ridge properties and really treat yourself. Either way, Round the Bend delivers beautifully, and I highly recommend it.

This was a delightful, peaceful place to stay by the river. The small wooden chalets are basic but have everything you need. We were given tea or coffee and snacks soon after we arrived. The evening meal and breakfast were good with plenty of food. In the evening we sat round the fire pit or played table tennis and pool in the games room. The staff were all delightful. In the morning some of our group kayaked and the rest of us read or went bird watching..

Our company held our conference at this venue.
Most of staff were friendly but the chalets had spider webs everywhere.
The facilities don't appear to be well maintained. We also didn't have hot water in some of our chalets.

The food was average and when a few of our colleagues asked for seconds or extra helpings of something they were refused, despite us being the only group there and despite being well aware that there was plenty of food prepared for us.

The bar man, Barto was fantastic though.
The view of the river is also really beautiful.

Unless they do a major renovation and clean up of their facilities, I definitely won't be returning to this spot.

We attended a family wedding at Round the Bend - they couldn't ask for a more beautiful location on the river!

However, the event organisers were not available for assisting us with pre-arranged childcare plans, and nobody else had any knowledge of bookings, despite me having to provide a faxed/scanned booking sheet months in advance. Where did all my info go?

Was incredibly disappointed that I missed a large portion of the wedding festivities, especially when I had arranged, confirmed and relied upon the wedding planner to fulfil their commitment to personal, professional child care.

If they can't provide what they promise, they shouldn't bother offering it.
