Rothman Manor in Swellendam is an excellent first stopover point if you are travelling out of Cape Town to the Garden Route and beyond. Conveniently situated off the N2, the rooms are comfortable and nicely furnished. There is a traditional pizzeria right next door and other traditional restaurants within a short taxi ride if needed. Excellent home cooked breakfasts are served on a patio within the garden to the rear of the property. The owners are very attentive to all requests. A pleasurable stay.

We were staying at the Rothman manor for 2 nights, and loved it so much, that we didnt want to leave.
The place is so beautiful, and so clean, perfect pool and hot tub, they also have some animals like Zebra and Springbok, which is amzaing. The garden is huge as well.
Andreas is such a perfect host, and helped us with everything before we arrive, and during our stay.
Breakfast was really good, great selection of cheeses and cold meats, as well as fruits, jogurt, eggs, and actually anything you need in order to start your day.
There is a lounge where you can have coffee, or just sit and relax.
We were staying in the Suite Africa, which is so beautiful, they really make an effort to give attention to all the small details so you will have anything you need.
This was definetely our best guesthouse experience in South Africa, and we cannot wait to come back.

It would be hard to beat the pure beauty and tranquility of this old Dutch Colonial property set in idyllic surroundings. I would give it a six star rating if possible for it is such a wonderful place.
Exquisitely decorated rooms offer real comfort and ambience and a good degree of privacy. Lovely pool to enjoy the wonderful sunshine here.
Breakfast in the garden is a true delight in location and food quality. There is also a lounge to relax with interesting books. A secure and covered parking area and even found my car windows cleaned the next day!
It goes on....... the garden area has a large lily pond, varying areas with seating to enjoy the surroundings and a large paddock with Springbok and Zebra! All flanked by the local mountains!
The challenge is leaving this place as we could have happily stayed much Longer than two nights.

A wonderful experience. From the moment you arrive in the extensive and well manicured grounds you are in an oasis of calm and luxury. The rooms are well appointed and finished to a very high standard. The service is understated but at the same time they cater for your every need. We couldn’t fault the place and would highly recommend it to any travellers wanting something special. Our only regret was we didn’t stay longer !

We only stayed here for one night on our way to Knysna, and our host at Rothman Manor made it as comfortable as possible. The rooms are really lovely and the attention to detail is fantastic. We have large one on the second floor, It really feels that they are trying their absolute best to make your stay as relaxing as possible. We had a very tasty dinner in Woodpecker Italian restaurant next to Manor and breakfast was gougious.

When one wishes to start off on the garden route, it is imperative to "make a draai" aka take some time to visit Swellendam. One of the oldest towns in SA, the Drosdy museum is worth a visit and make sure to have lunch (or dinner) at the Republiek restaurant opposite the road. But 1st check in at Rothman where you will find an island of peace, beauty and friendliness.
The rooms are amazing, breakfast is super, the jacuzzi needs to be tried and make sure to get a bottle of bubbly while you look out over the zebra and springbokkies in the garden. Overall wonderful experience that deserves a stay of 3 nights at least.

This is our favourite guesthouse in South Africa,
we were staying there twice in December on the way to the garden route and on the way back.
Mark and Diane are the perfect hosts, they took care of anything we needed.
the rooms are amazing, you have everything you need, and they give attention to all the small details, which gives you a great feeling of a valued guest.
The garden is amazing, and of course the animals. its the best guesthouse that we experienced in South Africa, and we cant wait to come again.

Beautiful, almost sparkling hotel. It was immaculate everywhere and everything was so clean and shiny. Received a very warm welcome and lots of lovely snacks and fruits in our room, which was cosy and welcoming and looked out onto the pool and beautiful gardens, with zebra and springbok in the rear (enclosed!) area. Breakfast was a delight - again everything fresh and well cooked. We had to leave a day earlier than planned which was no reflection on the hotel at all but the receptionist was very concerned that something was wrong (it wasn't!) which shows their level of care. Also found that our car had been cleaned by a member of staff which was a very nice added touch.

Would highly recommend.

Our only disappointment was that good restaurants were a fair distance away so you would need either a car or taxi to get anywhere. Did not like the restaurant next-door!

The staff were lovely and helpful and the facility was nice and comfortable. Breakfast was included and they were extremelv kind to accommodate any type of diet. It's a pretty property and feels safe. The location is also good, and there is a reasonable restaurant next door for dinner. There was nothing to dislike to be honest. The only thing is that there isn't much to do in Swellendam itself, and the load shedding didn't help.

Rothman Manor is set amongst beautiful countryside. The main building in which we stayed was full of character and has preservation status but did not compromised on comfort. The grounds are relaxing with a nice pool in which to relax. Breakfast was cooked to order and very good. Andreas our host could not do enough to help. We will return the next time we are in the Western Cape.
