The location is almost at the entrance of Swellendam so very quiet but still walking distance from a couple of restaurants and coffeeshops. For the ones further down the main street you need a car.
We rented a family deluxe cottage which is very nice, it has a great clean bathroom with walk-in shower in between the 2 bedrooms. There is a sitting area with a tv as well as a fridge and storage space.
The rooms/cottages are located around the swimming pool which has sun loungers, no shade but there was shade on our terrace under a big tree. Beach towels are available but you need to go ask, as a tip for improvement I would make them available in a basket in the pool area.
I would say there are 2 downsides: the wifi doesn’t work well at all and our 2nd bedroom didn’t have a fan.
Breakfast was good and up to local standards with the continentals + savoury offering.

I think it is very good value for money, you get a lot of space (I can only speak for the family cottage) and the setting is really nice, nestled amongst greenery.
A caveat is that we weren’t informed that a lot of restaurants would be closed today (Jan 2nd) so there were literally 3 restaurants open but fully booked so we ended up having KFC on our terrace and apparently it’s not the first time this happens. I wish we had been informed. In fact many of the guests were eating KFC because no one found a table in a restaurant. Please book your restaurant beforehand! The feedback above was also shared with the owners who seemed to take it into account.

We had a small chalet right by the pool. Very nicely decorated. We immediately felt comfortable. Breakfast in the small snug breakfast room was great. The staff really nice.
Also positive: We were able to park our rental car directly on the fenced grounds in front of our chalet.
Within a short walking distance there are several restaurants and cafes around the corner, where you can sit very nicely outside in the first on the left side in Swellengrebel Street (it seemed to be very well attended).
Even if we only stayed one afternoon and one night, we would not want to miss this gem on our journey along the Garden Route and can highly recommend a stay here.

The pool could do with a permanently running pool pump with filter. When we were on site, the pool was unfortunately full of small flies (and streaks). My partner then started working as a pool boy for a long time before the otherwise very nice pool was really usable (but he also enjoyed it). Suggestion: At the pool itself, umbrellas would be highly recommended in the future, pool towels were provided to us directly on arrival.
But that's it with the constructive criticism.

From the moment we arrived we were greeted with warm smiles, a very happy welcome and a beautiful location. The hosts have paid attention to all the comforts one enjoys on a holiday, large comfortable bed, fantastic shower, tea/coffee and mini fridge in the room. The balcony overlooking the immaculate beautiful garden and crystal clear swimming pool is furnished with outdoor Furniture and umbrella. Breakfast which is included was delicious, lots of choice and friendly service. We can highly recommend Roosje Hotel and would like to thank everyone for a fabulous 2 nights stay there.

My husband and I went with our 4 year old daughter. The place was ok, although I wouldn’t go back. The rooms were too small and there wasn’t enough counter or storage space to unpack our bags (not even my toiletries). Also, the WiFi was very poor and unreliable.

For Christmas Day they provided dinner which was a set menu of broccoli and mushroom soup with a lamb stew. It came with dessert which we couldn’t wait for, as it hadn’t arrived by8:30, which is already 1.5 hours after our daughter’s bed time, so we had to put her down. This was annoying as they were charging a set rate of R500 per head regardless. It felt like a lot for what we got. I thought the soup was average, although my husband didn’t like it at all. The mains were good, albeit not at all Christmassy. I would expected a roast of some sort for Christmas.

I can, however say that Patience, our hostess, was absolutely lovely. It was nice to have , what felt like, our own swimming pool. My daughter also enjoyed the trampoline.

Great location, nice room, very good breakfast, great staff. Car can be parked on site, restaurants, coffee shops and shops within walking distance. Nice swimming pool where you can swim laps and beautiful well-kept garden. Lots of hospitality, good atmosphere and the reservation for the restaurant was arranged. You will be completely pampered. Owner very friendly, makes time for a chat. We enjoyed!

We stayed over at the Hotel Roosje van de Kaap where we met friends whom we only see about once a year. We had a lovely time at a beautiful establishment with breathtaking views. The staff were very kind and helpful (shout out to Patience), the rooms were beautifully furnished and we especially enjoyed sitting around the pool relaxing. The rooms are very reasonably priced and it is worth anyone's while to experience this at least once.

Swellendam was a surprise. Day one we woke up late for breakfast, the Ladies popped down to remind us they would wait for us. Fantastic caring service. On leaving after breakfast, which was excellent, the receptionist made recommendations, one of which was the Spa next door. We chose to wait a day or two but made great friends at the Spa just going into book. Thereafter we walked the town, went into various museums, found execellent eateries all relaxed, good wholesome food and the Swellenberg Draft Beer, rates with the best.
On one of the side roads we found a pottery expo, went in, everything open and laid out , with a sign on the door, we out, enjoy yourself and here is our number if you want anything. That made the trip, friendly people, safe environs, good food and soo much history.
Will definitely stop off in Swellendam again.

What a charming place in the lovely Cape town of Swellendam. We were warmly welcomed by Helpi and shown to our room overlooking the garden and large lap pool. Breakfasts were tasty and well presented. The hotel is within easy walking distance of restaurants just down the road and - for the more energetic - a couple of kilometres from the town’s main shopping street. A great place to stop over for a day or two in a most beautiful part of the Western Cape.

It's been long since I last visited such a beautiful place. The type of place that restores your soul😊

Absolutely everything was on point, from the booking, reception and checking in, staying overnight with an over the top breakfast. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly, you can sense their (well deserving) pride regarding the place.

Most beautiful furniture and finishings in all the buildings. Garden beautifully laid out with 2 x swimming pools, trampoline, swings and ample place for kids to run around.

We loved every minute of being there. Hope to visit again in the future

There seems to be no reception area. A young girl appeared and showed me to a room, offered to help with my luggage and then disappeared. While getting my luggage she appeared with a tatty note pad for me to write my name and contact details. She left, no help with luggage! There was no information about the facilities and I had to search for someone to give me the WiFi password. A man arrived in the driveway waving a card machine and I paid for the accommodation there.

Response from F Brandsma, Owner at Boutique Hotel Roosje van de Kaap
Responded 16 Jun 2022
Thank you for your review. There is a quite a large reception area, as this person has seen when taking breakfast. We just try to make it easy for people to check-in and pay, especially considering all the corona period regulations, as a person from New Zealand should know. There is no problem what so ever when people want to check in officially, just come to our reception area, we even have two of them. As for a password for the internet and helping with luggage, I don't know what went wrong there, we always offer help and give passwords immediately. I spoke with the young girl, she offer help with luggage which was denied. My apologies for giving the password later.
