We have just stayed at the Frog Mountain Getaway nestled beneath the Langeburg Mountains just outside Swellendam. And what a lovely surprise lay in wait for us. We stayed in one of their three rondavels - spacious enough for a young family of two adults and two young children. The kitchen and lounge had everything you needed. There were very nice touches such as fresh flowers in each room as well as a tea tray with rusks. The bedroom had a King Size bed which was extremely comfortable and the bathroom had a large spacious shower, toilet and handbasin. Upstairs there were two beds for young children. The stoep had chairs which overlooked the mountains and you could see their Nuguni cattle. They also had several horses and two donkeys as well as four dogs and a couple of cats. The owners Gabrielif you have nothing better to do. a and Stephen have only taken over management two years ago and have already done a lot of work on the cottages. There are three other cottages that take a lot more people. The kitchen includes all the crockery and cutlery that you will ever need. The stoep had an outside braai place which we used every night. There is also a small barn with a library and a table tennis table if you have nothing better to do. However there is so much to keep you busy, a Fofie slide over the river, swimming pool, swimming in the river, boating on the river and fishing in a dam with boat supplied, and of course a Labyrinth.

What a magical place! It is clear that the owners love the land- they have cleared alien vegetation; their cows, donkeys, horses, cats and dogs are healthy and gorgeous and the lodgings are impeccable. The land in turn loves them and those lucky enough to be their guests back. You get to see birds, bokkies, bugs, amazing hikes and waterfall. We will be back!

A hidden little gem. Surrounded by nature without feeling like you're "lost in an jungle"

Love that there are no TV's which encourages less screen time and more active time for all members of the family.

Accommodation is neat, clean and clearly well looked after - it had ALL the equipment and utensils needed for the time we stayed. Nice pool situated in a nice area, but we all preferred the river, rock pool and waterfall.

The road from where the tar ends till the location was a bit annoying but well worth the trip - Refills to the pantry or fridge is just a 20 min drive away.

Definitely a place to check out. I will be visiting again.

Thank you to the Frog Mountain Getaway team and Silky.

My small family wanted to start the year on a good note & boy did we get more than we bargained for.. The venue is amazing with lots of activities to keep adults & kids busy from dusk till dawn. Our hosts were always friendly & accommodating. However the rondavel we stayed in fell well short of the high season price tag. A barely surface clean just doesn't cut it. Especially when you get inundated with ants & cockroaches. My wife & daughter slept the last 2 days in the car after a roach fell on her face from the thatch.

Dear valued guest Thank you so much for your review. We are so sorry you were disappointed with your stay and felt your accommodation was not up to scratch and over valued. We take that very seriously as hygiene is a top priority for us. If we may just respond to the accusation that we do a mere surface clean: We can assure you that that is simply not remotely true! If you note, so many of our guests who do take the time to review us, often comment on our cleanliness. We have 2-3 highly trained and skilled cleaners (meticulously supervised, by our manager and me the owner), who spend hours scrubbing each house top to toe after and before EVERY single stay! Even on our busiest days! We would NEVER allow a mere surface clean! We triple check everything to make sure there is not a speck of dust! I am sure you noticed this when you entered the house! We also pride ourselves in going the extra mile to provide top class Egyptian cotton linen, towels, fresh flowers and a tea-tray as well as an abundantly stocked kitchen and always do our best to have our houses as perfect as possible, in a farm environment. That said, being on a farm, nestled among the mountains, with a proliferation of wildlife and with the extremely hot weather, we suddenly in the last couple of weeks had an influx of ants (clearly desperate in the terrible drought). This is the first time we as the new owners have experienced this, and have now taken measures to spray with an environmentally friendly spray, that will sadly remove the ants and bugs stopping them from entering the house, but hopefully not destroy the very important eco-system that we are proud of protecting! We have also recently re-thatched every single rondavel from scratch and vacuum them from the inside each time we clean, so we are very sorry if some little indigenous bugs also made their way in there and fell down on your wife’s face:-( Thatch is gorgeous, natural and cool but unfortunately can also be the perfect place for a goggo to climb and hide, despite our best vacuuming and cleaning efforts. The little creatures live outside and make their way inside generally at night when the lights are on and windows are left open, but we do do our best in a natural environment. We are glad you at least got to enjoy the beautiful farm and all the activities and surrounding nature and the serenity that this place provides. Warm regards Gabriella

What joy to find a destination that ticks all the boxes! The cottage was clean and well equipped, with unexpected touches like complementary coffee, tea and rusks; luxurious cotton bedding that exceeds the cottage’s “pay grade”; and a trampoline with a safety net for the kids. We swam in the waterfall pool (a short, easy walk that my 4-year-old managed quite easily), paddled in the supplied canoes, foefied down the foefie slide, and fed apples to the resident horses and donkeys. Bonus: Swellendam is just 15 minutes away in case of a chocolate emergency. Frog Mountain is my new favourite place on Earth!

We stayed at the beautifully renovated Firefly cottage and the entire family loved it. Ample space in the loft area for the kids to sleep and sufficient space downstairs in the main bedroom. Inside the cottage there were lovely personal touches like salt and pepper in the kitchen, extra blitz and free wifi. Added to that having tea and coffee, as well as the yummy rusks was an absolute treat for early mornings on the patio area overlooking the mountains and listening to the birds. There is no shortage of activities for the family to enjoy. Lovely pool area, hiking trails, canoes and a stunning play area for the kids to run around. Having extra wood available at the farm area that you could purchase was a nice treat and allowed us to enjoying the hot tub. That was the icing on the cake and the entire family enjoyed sitting in there on a cool afternoon. I would highly recommend Frog Mountain to anyone and it is definitely somewhere we would stay again.

This was our first visit to Frog Mountain and we were pleasantly surprised. The location is very picturesque and the facilities were ample and catered for the entertainment of young children with the playground and swimming pool. The short walk to the waterfall was another surprise with the waterfall cascading into a large rock pool. We couldnt resist jumping into the rockpool although the water was icy cold. It was agreed by the familt that another visit to Frog Mountain was definitely on the cardsand that we needed more time to enjoy the area.

We loved this magical venue and great for our 3 year old. Cottages are well kitted out, with all the special touches to make you feel at home - well stocked kitchen including rusks and tea, good linen and freshly picked flowers.
So many things to keep the kids outside that are within easy walking distance of the cottage - our daughter enjoyed the kids play area, pool, rock hopping in the river and feeding the horses.
The Rivera-Wanliss family are the most accommodating hosts and happy to let you explore for as long as you stay. The devotion they’ve put into renovating the farm is evident and a pleasure to enjoy.

We needed a short getaway and at last minute booked a 5 sleeper Rondavel for us and our 3 young kids. The booking service was simple and efficient - we even got an extra night free despite it still being school holiday peak time.

The accommodation was great, clean, well kept, and delivered on what it promised. Definitely kid friendly and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable time.

The Frog Mountain team - including Hendrik we met en-route to the waterfall, were friendly and super helpful.

Kids loved Silkie the dog who was just as friendly.

Thank you Frog Mountain!

Gabriella the owner was,so helpful before and during our stay. Nguni Cottage has everything required for a self catering venue. This was a last minute booking and we were not prepared so the only 2 items sorely missed were a torch and mosquito repellent. (which are required in our opinion and were mentioned in the guest letter one receives before arrival). If you're looking for a tranquil place to rest your body and mind and watch the stars at night, this is it. The only "noise" you might hear are the Cattle in the field :) or kids laughter across the valley. To sit on the Porch and watch the sunset was incredibly peaceful. Be mindful re the car you drive as it is off the beaten track and you cant be fearful of snakes or spiders as they apparently can be spotted! We went for a lovely walk to the Waterfall with our English Bulldog, enjoyed the canoes and lay by the pool - it was a strangely hot day in July. Nguni Cottage is set apart from the Rondavels so it's far enough to not feel "on top" of any other guests and isn't near the kiddies play area. The only comment I can make re the dog friendly Cottage is that it is not fenced in and so, if your dog has selective hearing, be mindful it can run into the dirt road and the occasional car does come by. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much to Gabriella and Stephen.

Dear wonderful valued Guest Thank you so so much for taking the time to write this absolutely wonderful review, it warms our heart when guests have a fabulous time on the farm! We are thrilled you could enjoy the peace and quiet and soak in the nature. Yes, absolutely, we really are in the deep nature here, and because of our lush valley and micro-climate with lots of rain, we do get an astonishing amount lof "goggos", rain spiders and yes the occasional slithery friend!;-) We are glad you made it to the waterfall and yes, thank you for the tip, to remind our guests the whole farm is unfenced, except for Sam's Place, our luxury farm house....;-) We do hope to see you again in the future! Warm regards Gabriella and the whole Frog Mountain Family
