Detailed Reviews
Aan De Bergen is a very nice guesthouse with friendly owners, who are able to tell you a lot about the things to do in and around Swellendam.
We outside balcony is lovely to sit and enjoy the Mountain View!
Our room was nice and big, but we missed two wine glasses and the bathroom was rather 'minimal'. The room could win a lot more space if some of the cupboards were taken out.

Our family stayed here during the festive season coming to a music festival where our son was a DJ on New Year’s Eve. We were all
Warmly welcomed and treated with the best service , the garden is so beautiful and peaceful and then we were not prepared for the rain , but quickly we were given some warm clothes to save the day. Excellent

We stayed for the Friday before my wedding, We where well received. We got dressed on the Saturday and they redid the rooms for us on the Saturday for guests staying there. The house was nice and clean and even a honesty bar with cool drinks and chips if needed

Just another guest house.Just the way a guest house should be.Clean comfortable room with barhroom.Nothing extraordinary just plain guest house.Near restaurants and town centre.Staff helpful and friendly.Room was not serviced,we had to ask.An oversight I presume.Breakfast? Not a wide variety but sufficient and tasty.A fair price for what is offerde.

Aan de Bergen had everything we wanted - it was very clean, had a lovely, cozy room with a great shower. The service was brilliant - Alana went out of her way to make our stay memorable. We would definitely recommend this guesthouse.

It was initially supposed to be a camping weekend, but after a night and a day under the rain, we just decided to upgrade for a night.
The owner accommodated us last minute and gave us a nice comfy room to recover from this wet day on the mountain.
Great hot shower and super comfy bed.

My boyfriend and I booked a one night stay here months in advance but when we arrived we were told that our room was unavailable due to electrical problems and that we would have to find another place to stay. The lady who dealt with us said someone should have contacted us a couple of days before but we told her that we had not received any calls or emails from them (even checked the spam box).
We asked her what we were supposed to do as we had made no alternative arrangements, and she told us we would need to look elsewhere but would probably not find another place in the same price bracket. We asked if they would be willing to pay for the price difference but she just laughed and said "no". We found this service appalling as they put the onus on us to make other arrangements and did nothing for the inconvenience caused.
We couldn't find another place in the area with such short notice so we asked whether we could just stay in the room we originally booked for despite the problems it had (we had booked a self-catering unit). Eventually the lady let us stay there without any hot water due to the electrical problems. We asked for a discount because of the hot water problem and she initially said no but after we insisted, she called the manager and then agreed to give us one.
This lady refused to give us her name even after asking for it several times. When we asked to speak with the manager she told us the manager wasn't there and refused to give us his/her name either. At one point she mentioned the name "Jenade", although we don't know whether this was her name or the managers.
This was the first destination of our holiday and got it off to a terrible start. We found the lady's service was unwelcoming and unprofessional.. Needless to say we will not be returning to "Aan de Bergen" again!

Always a pleasure to stay here. The rooms are always clean and the garden is beautiful. The breakfast is too big for me and I must always put a break on it. Annetjie is always very friendly and goes out of her way to make you feel welcome.

Aan de Bergen offered very comfortable accommodation, and a warm and inviting atmosphere. The hostess gave excellent advice on suitable restaurants to go to for dinner, and cooked a very fulling breakfast. Attached to the guest house is an Aloe nursery, which has over 100 different aloe species and cultivars. I found that interesting to walk around, especially with the aloes coming into flower at this May/June time of year.

hi, looking at their website it looks like both Aloe Room and Cycad Room can be adapted to cater for an additional child or adult and still provide privacy for the couple. Hope you come right and enjoy your stay. Remember to make time in your itinerary to visit the succulent nursery and keep space when packing to take an aloe or two home. All the best, you lucky bugs! xx Lea-Anne :)
