Beautiful quaint guesthouse in a quiet location and easily accessible off the N2. Perfect stopover spot recommended to us by friends. Will definitely be coming again. They apparently have a great restaurant on-site but this was closed at the time of our visit due to the pandemic. We look forward to trying it next time.

Super friendly and kind. Attention to detail, beautiful decor, comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast. Feels like bit of Swellendam history. It was a hot weekend but due to the historical building method the room was cool and comfortable. What a treat to be had.

This was a two night stop over on our way back to Capetown. This is a beautifully restored and appointed guest house in centre of Swellendam close to 2 very good restaurants and the fascinating Drosty museum. The breakfast room is absolutely beautiful with friendly staff and very good breakfast made to order. Bedroom is very comfortable but the bathroom is downstairs from the bedroom with some stairs to negotiate- and this is the only reason I have given 4 stars and and not 5.

We had an wonderful dinner at your restaurant last night. It was one of the best beef fillet I have ever had to date! Perfectly prepared and the Paris butter on top that melts into the fillet was to die for.

Welcomed by the most friendly staff on arrival ,who are absolutely service and guest focused The rooms are comfortable with all your needs taken care of - bathrooms are downstairs though which could be a problem for some . The restaurant on site is very convenient and the food good Well worth a visit when staying over in Swellendam

The hotel is an old house from 1832 which has been renovated to give you all the modern comforts yet doesn't lose that historical feel. They have their own restaurant and although we didn't have dinner there, we had breakfast which was delicious and beautifully presented. There are 3 rooms to choose from - mostly the same but each with their own character, and ours is the only one without a bath (we stayed in Orchid) so if that is one of your requirements, just let them know when you place your booking. One thing to note is that they unfortunately aren't wheelchair friendly. What I really liked was that you can do a wine tasting (5 wines) from Baleia, which is also available to the public. We had such a great time and our hosts Mari-Louise and Edgar were very friendly and welcoming. Swellendam used to be a town you just drive past on the N2, but with ever increasing attractions and accommodation such as De Companjie it's definitely become an option to visit.

We had heard about a wine bar at De Companjie, so stopped over in Swellendam for the evening en route to Cape Town to try it out. Our room was very quaint, but comfortable, with a large bathroom downstairs. Our supper was excellent, and breakfast even better. The staff were very friendly, and David went out of his way to look after us.

De Companjie is situated perfectly in the main street of Swellendam. The room is spacious and very comfortable on two levels with a huge bathroom. The bed is also massive. The room has tremendous character with a real feel of the 1800,s about it.The jewel in the Crown however is a gentleman by the name of David. He prepared the most wonderful breakfast on the two days we were there. The presentation and flavour would not be out of place in the final of Masterchef. In the 3 weeks in various places in South Africa this was by far the best cullinary experience we had.Unfortunately we had breakfast on the days the restaurant was closed in the evening, which was a real missed opportunity.

A lovingly restored historic home converted into a very comfortable and personalized bed &breakfast. We arrived at 18h00 on a very cold and wintery evening. We phoned the owner while on route to Cape Town to book and she was most helpful, friendly and efficient. Upon arrival Edgar greeted us warmly and show us to our room where a heater was already on to warm up our room. A large shower and bath in the bathroom downstairs and a beautiful comfortable bedroom upstairs. The bedroom also has access to a balcone and overlooks a small garden with a lovely space to sit outside in summer. A large oak tree dominates (and most likely predates the house judging by it's magnificent size) the garden and must be stunning in summer. The decor is very special and one can see the owner's attention to detail everywhere in her particular style with a mix of old and new. We had dinner at the restaurant on site where a lovely log fire was burning. The food was sumptuous with both of us opting for the "Black Beast". The fillet was perfectly cooked served on home mash and vegetables with a delicious Cafe Paris sauce. We shared a chocolate fondant which was also lovely all accompanied by a lovely bottle of Baleila red wine. We met the chef who came to check if all was to our satisfaction. At breakfast we met with the owners who served us a delicious large breakfast. We could not have had a more perfect stay over and next time we are planning to visit their self catering units situated on a farm just outside Swellendam. I can wholeheartedly recommend De Companjie without any hesitation. Thank you to the whole team for a lovely stay.

The guest house is delightful and full of character and charm. The staff and owner Jacques were friendly and made us feel so at home. They prepared Vegan meals especially for us. However, we were not completely satisfied that the bathroom and toilet were on a different level to the bedroom. As it is an old 17th Century building, there is a steep wooden ladder connecting the two levels. My husband and I were not happy with this design. Other than this, the accommodation is clean and we had a comfortable night's stay in the guest house. The rooms are tastefully decorated. I would highly recommend a stay at De Companjie, if you are not concerned about the bathroom being on a different level to the bedroom.
