This was a two night stop over on our way back to Capetown.
This is a beautifully restored and appointed guest house in centre of Swellendam close to 2 very good restaurants and the fascinating Drosty museum.
The breakfast room is absolutely beautiful with friendly staff and very good breakfast made to order.
Bedroom is very comfortable but the bathroom is downstairs from the bedroom with some stairs to negotiate- and this is the only reason I have given 4 stars and and not 5.

Beautiful quaint guesthouse in a quiet location and easily accessible off the N2. Perfect stopover spot recommended to us by friends. Will definitely be coming again.

They apparently have a great restaurant on-site but this was closed at the time of our visit due to the pandemic. We look forward to trying it next time.

Super friendly and kind. Attention to detail, beautiful decor, comfortable bed. Delicious breakfast. Feels like bit of Swellendam history. It was a hot weekend but due to the historical building method the room was cool and comfortable. What a treat to be had.

The food was great. The amenities was a bit of a disappointment, they were empty. The hairdryer did not have the appropriate plug, and after asking them to change it they did not, they just changed the one plug to another. Luckily i had my own hairdryer.

The guest house only counts 3 rooms which are individually cottages. Downstairs entrance and bathroom and upstairs bedroom with (shared) balcony. From the balcony you can take the stairs down into the (shared) garden. The furniture is antique and artistic and beautiful but not suitable for older people or small children. Restaurant is excellent and has personal service. Across the road is also a nice restaurant for lunch. Two chickens and a dog roam freely around the premises.

We stayed at De Companjie for one night only on route to Tsitsikamma and wish we had more time here.

We had a warm welcome from Agnes, who showed us to our beautiful and large room.

We had dinner in the restaurant and have to agree with all the glowing reviews, the food is delicious!

Highly recommended De Companjie and Swellendam for a couple of night. Great hospitality, food and excellence value for money.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful evening at De Companjie during our overnight stay in Swellendam.
The guesthouse we were staying at recommended the restaurant 'for their steaks', so we booked a table. This wasn't exactly necessary as we were the only people in all evening! We loved it though - having the whole restaurant to ourselves! (we went out of season so normally booking would be recommended).
We were welcomed at the door by Agnes who made us feel very welcome. That evening the town had a scheduled 2 hour power cut (aka 'load shedding') so the entire restaurant was lit by candles dotted around the place, which gave it a lovely romantic feel.
The food was superb. The steak was out of this world- beautifully cooked and melt-in-the-mouth tender.
The selection of wines on offer was excellent, from some local vineyards and were very reasonably priced.
As we were finishing our desserts the power clicked on and we could see the restaurant in its entirety - it was tastefully decorated and very much in keeping with the laid back mood of the town.
I would definitely recommend De Companjie - great food & drink, lovely setting and warm, friendly service.

We had a great stay at De Companjie. The room was a cottage style with private entrance. Good food, wine and lovely room with spacious bathroom . We will come again. Good location for travelling the garden route. We also recommend the restaurant for dinner.
