AfriCamps is all about glamping at the most beautiful working farms, estates and reserves in South Africa. At each of our locations, you can get closer to nature without compromising on the creature comforts of home. Enjoy everything from hiking to hammocking, from seclusion in nature to romantic escapes, from family getaways to merry chaos with friends. The AfriCamps glamping concept offers guests the freedom and flexibility of a self-drive holiday, the closeness to nature of a camping trip and the luxury and convenience of a beautiful self-catering unit. AfriCamps at Kam’Bati is situated in the popular Kam’Bati River Resort about 20 km west of Swellendam in the Western Cape. The Sonderend and Breede Rivers meet on this Overberg farm which allows plenty of river activities for the whole family. Kam’Bati River Resort is home to 13 boutique glamping tents. Five tents are located in a beautiful section of the resort overlooking a wetland abuzz with birdlife. Four tents look out onto a small farm dam, while the remaining four tents are slightly elevated overlooking the resort and the beautiful farm landscape surrounding the resort. The outdoor wood-fired hot tub next to each tent is the perfect place to listen to the birdsongs or relax under the stars at night. Each AfriCamps tent consists of an outdoor wood-fired hot tub or splash pool, a spacious open plan lounge area with a comfortable couch, a dining area with a solid wooden table and seating for five guests, a fully-equipped kitchen, two bedrooms that comfortably sleeps five guests and a bathroom complete with a hot shower, flushing toilet and washbasin. Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen-size bed and have their own private entrance which allows maximum privacy. One of the bedrooms also contains a single bunk bed. Our tents are equipped with air-conditioning and an indoor fireplace. Enjoy a braai on our spacious wooden decks and take in the views from the comfortable deck loungers. Pull up the front covers and transform the tent into a large outdoor living area. Unwind and appreciate a festive family breakfast while taking in the serene natural beauty of the South African landscape. Our tents are equipped with Wi-Fi. Kam’Bati River Resort adds plenty of family-friendly activities to your glamping experience. Try your luck at fishing from the banks of the Breede River, or challenge the whole family to a round of mini-golf. The kids will love swinging into the river from a rope, the three swimming pools with slides, and the playground. Take it a bit slower and cycle along the endless farm roads which are especially beautiful during canola season when the farm is covered in bright yellow fields. Explore the river walkway in front of the tents with the kids. Kids will receive a scavenger hunt checklist on arrival. See if they can find all the items on the list! The resort has a bar and lounge which is open over weekends, so you won’t miss the big sports matches!

On our trip down to the Western Cape from the Eastern Cape, we stayed at Africamps Kambati overnight to break the trip. It has everything you need for a comfortable night's sleep that recharges the batteries. The offering of a braai pack for the evening and breakfast pack for the morning is very welcome, and the fact that the wood-fired hot tub was heated on arrival was impressive! The tents are cleverly thought out and kitted out in very pleasant surroundings, and boil down to excellent value for money in our view. In Covid times, there was minimal physical contact with staff as you would expect and appreciate, but we never felt unattended to due to the professional regular contact through email and Whatsapp every step of the way.

Thank you for this great review - wonderful to hear that you appreciated the self-check in policy due to covid. We enjoy interacting with guests more often under noemal circumstances. Kam'Bati is well located to break up a trip, but also great for a longer stay, so we hope to welcome you back again for longer! We had a lovely, relaxing 4 days at this resort. The kids had an absolute blast playing Putt Putt, swimming in the 3 pools, going for walks, scavenger hunts, using the hot tub and playing board games. The resort was not very full, which was great for social distancing. We practically had the pools all to ourselves during our stay. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The small onsite shop sold all the essentials such as wood, ice, water, cooldrinks etc. Please note that the water in the taps are not suitable for drinking. They do provide a complimentary bottle of water in your fridge but please ensure you bring your own bottles along, or purchase them at the onsite shop. The tent only has space for an under counter bar fridge, so keep that in mind when taking food along.
It was lovely going "camping" without having to set up a tent, blow up mattresses, using ablution blocks etc. The beds were comfortable and the bedding clean. Glamping is really the best way to camp.

The only issue we had was that only one plate on the gas stove was working (it wasn't much of an issue as we hardly cooked). The flies were quite a nuisance but we managed to keep them at bay with bug spray. But the fun we had far out-weighed any negative experiences. The kids keep asking us when we are going back. Thank-you Africamps Kam'Bati, we had a great time.

Thank you for a lovely review Liesl. We are thrilled that you and the kids enjoyed all our activities. We have advised the team to check on the stove and will get it fixed as soon as possible - thank you for reporting the problem. As is common on a working farm, we are faced with flies from time to time, as well as the greater Swellendam area. We have implemented measures to reduce the problem, but still advise guests to keep canvas panels closed when not in use, and to make sure lights are switched off and food items are put away when guests are not in the tent. We are so glad this did not take away from the wonderful experience you had. We will soon have 8 more tents on the farm, and hope to welcome you back for another stay!

What an amazing first experience at Africamps Kambati. The tent is well equipped and clean, with all you need for an amazing adventure. Brilliant staff who couldn’t do enough to ensure we had the best time. Thank you especially to Alex and Tania, nothing was too much trouble, even helping set up our hot tub in the pouring rain with a smile. The whole set up is perfect especially for families and it’s a wonderful way to enjoy nature even in winter. The tents are equipped with a wood burning fireplace and electric blankets which is very warm and cozy. The hot tub on a winters day was a highlight.

Thank you for the experience Kam’bati!

We spent last night glamming at the Africamps tented resort in Swellendam. All in all a pleasant experience but not sure that we will be back soon. The first problem was gaining access to the resort. We arrived at the main gate which has an intercom but this was not answered. We buzzed the other names on the notice board and intercom but all we got was silence or voicemail. Eventually, after phoning head office my husband managed to raise someone to let us in. In the meantime I had got though the gate and set off on foot to walk the three kilometers to raise reception.
The tent was as promised but the view on the website does not in anyway delivered. Over promised and under delivered.
We were told not to drink the tap water but we had to request drinking water. At the othe r Africamps venues we have been to the drinking water was supplied.
No dishwashing liquid supplied although this was part of the inventory at other camps
The biggest problem was with the flies. There were so many that life was unpleasant and I was relieved that we were not going to stay another night. The amount of flies was accredited to the river??? Really?.. more likely the septic tank

Good day Jill, and thank you for raising these valid concerns with us. The team at AfriCamps at Kam'Bati has informed us about the temporary problem with the gate, which has been repaired since your stay. As a result of load shedding, the signal was very weak and our team on-site could not be reached at that moment - apologies for the inconvenience caused. With regards to water, the camp always supplies 500ml per guest on arrival in the tent, thereafter water is purchased from the farm shop. We apologize if the complimentary water and the dishwashing liquid was missing from the tent on your arrival and will bring this under the camp's attention. Unfortunately, flies naturally occur on farms, and even more so in certain seasons. We’ve implemented various control measures: hanging fly bags along the tree line of the AfriCamps tents as well as all our other units at Kam’Bati. We regularly hang fly straps under the tents, and spray for flies is provided in each AfriCamps tent. Other than that we can recommend closing the tent especially while preparing food and using the air conditioning at night. We will be monitoring all the points made above as we value our service standards.

Saturday 15th Jan 2022 I was parked by the river and I was fishing when I noticed that the sprinklers were on where my car is parked. The workers were still there and I asked them if they can see that my car is parked there and that you cannot spray irrigation water on a car!

The worker replied "other guests don't mind this" WTF! how can you put irrigation water on a car that will leave hard water spots! No common sense!

On arrival on the 14th I EXPLICITLY asked the 2x reception staff that I would like the breakfast basket to be delivere by 08:00, to which they both agreed. The following day they only deliver the basket at 09:30 - delaying our WHOLE DAY!

Beware of this place and their useless, senseless staff!

Hi Daine, thank you for your feedback. We take reviews like this extremely seriously and have investigated the matter thoroughly. Although we understand your frustration with these two events, we would like to put them into context. Prior to the sprinklers being activated, staff members went to the guests who were camping by the river to inform them of the sprinklers. These guests assured our staff that they had no problem with the sprinklers going off. As you were an AfriCamps guest and not a guest camping on that particular spot, you were not informed of this. We are sorry to hear that your breakfast basket was not delivered in time. Unfortunately, the staff member responsible for delivering the basket on that day had a flat tire on his way to the farm and was, therefore, not in time to deliver the basket on the agreed-upon time. We apologise for the inconvenience and that your day was delayed as a result. It's unfortunate to hear that your experience at our camp has tainted your impression of our staff members. The friendliness and responsiveness with which they approach each day are commendable and reflected in previous guest reviews.

We had a lovely romantic breakaway at Kam'Bati for our 30th wedding anniversary. The staff were super friendly and helpful, even delivery fire wood and drinking water to our unit that we purchased in the shop. The tranquil setting and the lovely hot tub makes for a really relaxing stay to unwind and de-stress. The tents are very luxurious as far as camping goes and have all the basics that you might need for a care free convenient stay. If you love good coffee like we do, remember to take your own ground coffee beans, as there is a coffee plunger in the kitchen cupboard, but unfortunately the shop doesn't stock any. We had a lovely time and would definitely visit again if the opportunity arises.

Fantastic place. Needs a few more systems and staff training in place to really get it top-notch and to give a sense of 'value for money'. But the tents and tubs and location are amazing and there a few great staff that go out of their way for you. We spotted some game too on our short bike ride and walks. Beautiful!

We stayed at Kam'Bati for two nights. Beautiful surrounding farm on the Breede river. Well constructed and equipped tents. The fire heated hot tubs are a cool feature especially on a cold winter night. Good braai facilities. Slept well on comfortable beds. We had dinner and breakfast baskets for one night. Enough food. Breakfast basket was very good. Braai meat quality was average in our opinion, but we may be fussy eaters. Did some walking around the campsite and saw some Springbok and even Eland. Pools with slides fun for kids. Putt-putt course has nice design, but too uneven, your ball never stops rolling. Staff are friendly and helpful. Overall very good weekend getaway. Would stay again.
