This resort style hotel is located next to the Lake Pleasant and a few minutes drive from the beach. It's in the middle of nowhere, so no restaurants or shops close by. The beaches are stunning and isolated, great for watching rare animals and birds. Good spa. Friendly staff. Good place for families. However it's a bit expensive and there are many other great hotels in the area for a cheaper rate.

This hotel was reccomended by Siyabona Travel. Nice setting on a picturesque lake approxamatly 3 miles from Knysna. Very large, comfortable rooms. Ours had a balcony overlooking the lake. Great sunrise over the water. Well equipt spa with indoor pool, sauna, steamroom and weights. Outdoor pool just out the glass. I agree with an earlier review that the breakfast was passable but the evening meals can be skipped. Nothing great. Nice bar and wide screen tv. The staff really tried hard to please.
We had a very relaxing experience.

We spent four nights here after travelling for over three weeks in South Africa and it was very pleasant to spread out in these very spacious suites which are indeed considerably bigger than my first apartment. The pool area and the gardens are delightful and while Knysna and Plettenburg are easily reachable, there is no feeling of being right in town. The staff was informative and helpful and everything was kept very clean and manicured. The grounds staff said they were struggling to clean up after some torrential rains but it looked very good to us. Breakfast which was included in our stay was acceptable although nothing special. The food at night was mediocre at best and not worth the price especially considering the great restaurants in nearby Knysna -- try Dry Dock, Lush and Sirocco all great.

We stayed at Lake Pleasant in villa no 5 over the December holidays in peak season. The grounds at Lake Pleasant are beautifully maintained with owners taking personal interest. There is no spa, it is a badly looked after area which is closed up. The villa in which we stayed was very badly maintaned, full of potential but lots of maintenance issues. Aircon did not work, scullery overflooded cuz of dishwasher leak, tap in kitchen was lose so overflooded the floor, outside doors could not open, safe was locked on arrival. Most issues except the aircon were sorted but always caused unhappinness as it required daily calls to the manager on site. The aircon was not fixed as we were told it was holiday season. If the unit had been checked prior to us arriving this could have been sorted. We requested a nominal refund for all the inconvenience and were told the owners said no. With this attitude I cannot recommend Lake Pleasant as they are not willing to recognize the fact that when you are on holiday and paying R 3000 a night you are expecting top notch service which we did not receive. The house was dirty and full of spiders. But good news the Manager organised a broom for us so we could clean it ourselves ! Wifi is very bad as well but this was not an issue for us, However they should not advertise that they have it.

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Lake Pleasant and can't wait to go back again.

The setting is stunning, the service and quality of the hotel ranks amongst the best we have experienced and my personal favorite the abundance of bass just waiting to be caught just yards from our bedroom door.

As a family with two young daughters (3 and 7yrs) we were a bit concerned the kids would get bored and drive us up the wall with nagging, but, ended up complaining to them that they were not spending any time with mom and dad.

If you want space, quality and the perfect location we have no hesitation endorsing this fine hotel.

Its a bit mean me writing this review as we didn't actually stay at lake Pleasant... however we nearly did and i'm glad we didn't!!

Location. The lake pleasant hotel is situated yes on a lake but it is also very close to the main highway. Also in this area there isn't alot to do.

I'd recommend if your looking at this area to stay at Plettenberg Bay, its a nice wee town, plenty of restaurants, great beach and breathtaking mountain scenery. Knysna is also close, but not as pleasant a spot for visitors

We were so looking forward to spending a lovely family Christmas as this what looked like a very nice place. On our arrival there was one car at the very first unit only. We found a man washing a car ouside what seemed to be reception (no indication on where to go). We went inside the building, all was neat but there was not a single person. The man came from outside, asked our surname and then gave me check-in papers to sign. He then handed me a panic-button..??? He walked us to our room which was beautiful and clean. As he left, we realised that we are the only people at the entire lodge!!! (except the one car at the first loose standing unit at the gate) I guess this explains the panic button.... Even though the garden was nicely kept, we could hardly see the lake let alone any of the boat hiring or fishing we were looking forward to. We walked through the whole lodge - the closed down restaurant, the empty gym, the used-to-be spa - it seemed exactly like a spook town! NOT A SINGLE SOUL AROUND!? No staff whatsoever!! We were then told that after the restaurant closed down - all the staff was retrenched. We did not feel safe at all with our 2 children and left without even unpacking a single thing. We obviously had to pay upfront and have now seemingly forfeited our Christmas holiday money. They kept on saying they were fully booked - so either everyone decided to leave or this was a lie. I will be taking up this issue to attempt to recover some of our hard earned money - i will not let it go.

Dear Mechelles2017 I am very sorry to hear of you experience at Lake Pleasant Living. The Lake Pleasant Hotel unfortunately ceased operations at the end of May 2016 and private Suite and Villa Owners had to move the rental of their Suites / Villas away from the Mantis Group. The 5 star Suites/Villas are however still magnificently appointed in stunning natural surroundings. The Lake Pleasant Living website was altered to reflect the amended situation, specifically removing the hotel services. These amendments were carried through to all participating booking portals on the internet for all prospective guests to be informed of the change at Lake Pleasant. I understand that you were referred by a previous guest to Lake Pleasant and were not aware of the changes when booking via the website. Contrary to our cancellation policy, we have waived the balance of your payment and apologise for the inconvenience experienced with your December holiday.

We left from Cape Town to Sedgefield over the Easter vacation and pre-booked accommodation at one of the villas (chose a 4 sleeper) at Lake Pleasant. There is an abundance of accommodation to choose from along the Garden Route but Lake Pleasant is indeed a gem to find. The friendly and polite staff, impeccable accommodation, sightseeing, great food and tranquillity will certainly make you consider early retirement (even though you may be a long way from it). The villas are private suites and offer the comforts of one’s own home. The quality of Lake Pleasant and the services it offers will certainly exceed one’s expectations

This place was recommended to us by a couple who we'd met in S Africa and we didn't really know much about it. Luckily we were very pleasantly surprised and it's a great place to stay on the Garden Route if you want somewhere away from the crowds.

As the name suggests this place is situated on the edge of a lake on the main route from George to Knysna. The views of the lake are absolutely beautiful and the hotel is situated in pleasantly landscaped grounds. The accommodation is in the form of self catering suites which are huge. The rooms are obviously fairly newly decorated and look fresh and airy. The lounge also features an open plan kitchen which is fairly well equipped. For those who don't want to cook there is a bistro in the hotel but we found the food here to be pretty average. Breakfast is good with a choice of hot and cold options.

A great place to stay for a relaxing & peaceful time.

This is why I love facials. It starts with the idea of me time and usually I am rewarded 10 fold. For me it all starts with the sound of soft new-age music filtering softly around my head. I am taken to a stark white quiet cubicle and given a soft white toweling wrap with which to drape my half naked white body. Then the therapist tiptoes in and the ritual begins. Cleanse, pluck, wax and steam. The whiteheads are gently extracted as the New Age music whispers in the background. Please note I said whispers in the background. So this is what I was looking forward to and more when I booked a facial and pedicure at Lake Pleasant Living Spa.
This is what I got. New Age music blaring so loud I swear the sound was bouncing off the wall. Eardrums pounding I am lead to, wait for it, a dark brown room that looked suspiciously under equipped and no steamer or luxury facial products in sight. Just generic bottles of liquids of dubious lotions. And all through a very long hour of equally dubious rituals the New Age music kept on bouncing off my now very tense head.
So to cut this review to the point I highly recommend that if a facial is your special me time then do not, do not, do not book yourself into Lake Pleasant Living Spa. They do not have a clue and they charge a fortune.
