We were a large family group who stayed there from Friday to Sunday for a local wedding. The cottages are perfectly suited to a quick overnight stay. The gardens are beautiful and there's ample parking for larger groups. Some things that bothered us, though: 1. When we got there some of us were told that we'd have to pay extra because the pricing on the website was outdated and they were doing upgrades. 2. The double rooms only had one small towel. 3. The showers didn't have much water pressure (you had to hold the tap open with your hand, else it partly closed by itself and left you with only a trickle). 4. There was no extra toilet paper. 5. The manageress kept bugging us for the rest of the booking payment from the moment we arrived. Her requests to finish paying from the first day went even to the point of asking us to ((while we were getting ready for the wedding) drive to the ATM with her right then to draw the money, and waking us up Sunday morning to ask again. We offered to do an EFT the first time she asked (or to finish the payment through lekkerslaap.co.za where we made the original bookings), but apparently that wouldn't work "because of her books".

We went as a group and booked out all the cottages. The one bedroom cottages were compact and nicely appointed. (Mayflower & Oak) We stayed in the 3 bedroom Plumbago cottage and were a little underwhelmed. The rooms were large and comfortable, but very cold with only little fan heaters which did very little. I had to get out of bed by 1am to make hot water bottles to help us warm up. (Thank goodness I brought them from home!) Our friends slept fine with the extra blanket they bought from home. Also for a house that sleeps 6 people, we thought the living area was very small. 2 couches with the dinning room table pressed up behind one couch with 3 chairs meant that if it had rained we would have been squashed inside. Lucky for us it didn't rain so we ate outside, but again- house sleeps 6 and there is a 4 seater table with 3 chairs outside... so we carried the 3 dinning room chairs outside and ate off our laps. We can make due and it is really well priced, but for a winter stay next time we'll stay somewhere else.

Whilst the bedrooms are tastefully decorated and clean, the kitchen, bathroom and toilet leave much to be desired. Upgrades are apparently being planned. Quite cold though especially if staying during winter months, so bring your hotty botty with you. The gardens of the property have great potential, and if attention was paid to these,For a party of six people, Plumbago offers great value for money.

When I decided to return to Robertson for a second visit and to stay over, I booked with Plumbago cottages. The Oak cottage I stayed in for 2 nights gave me me this feeling of sleeping in a chapel. Everything inside has it's place and is ideal for two people. The bedroom has two single beds. I don't usually sleep well on my first night in a strange place but when my head hit the pillow I was fast asleep. The bedroom has a colour tv with dstv channels (which was a surprise) and my friend said she watched movies late into the night. In fact she said all the movies she would have watched at home was available. The main house's garden is inviting on arrival and the trees and garden near to the cottage even yielded me some pecan nuts. I would stay there again in summer time when it is warmer because the tiled floors (even though there is an adequate mat) make the room a little bitty cold.

Truly comfortable cottage ,light and airy. Excellently equipped kitchen. Well situated to explore Simonstown and tour the Southern Peninsula. Great to have enough space to relax in after a day on the water!
