We went as a family and it was amazing to completely be switched off and tuned in to nature. The views are divine from every single room. My girls enjoyed the pool (Friday was incredibly hot) and and we the stoep for wine. Make sure to bring absolutely everything you need if you intend to spend a lot of time in the cottages, you can’t quickly ‘pop out’ to get something you forgot from the shop. The cottage had all cutlery and crockery and salt and pepper. Really amazing and we have decided to make it an annual trip.

The pepper cottage is always just perfect for us. This time combining work and a secluded couple’s retreat, was no different. The WiFi allowed us to keep in contact for work but we also would be just as happy to turn it off for solitude. The view is breathtaking, service well thought through an unintrusive. The place was initially recommended by friends who also loved it and we do, too.

We spent 3 nights at Tierhoek's Stone Cottage. The cottage is beautifully positioned in the valley, and overlooks the damn and a striking mountain range. On a clear night, low moon night we could see the milky way stretching across the sky which was stunning.

The inside of the cottage is lovely with a dual fireplace that heats both the lounge and bedroom. The ginourmous king sized extra length bed and victorian bathtub (with hot water!) were an absolute treat.

The outside stoep has a small pool, seating area and a great braai spot, and overlooks the mountains. Next to the dam, some red bishops and weaver birds have made their home in the reeds so the loudest noise around was the singing of birds which was lovely after being in the city for the last few months.

We've been to Tierhoek more times than I can remember, and will always return here for weekends with friends or family. The houses are beautifully equipped, brilliantly sited for privacy from each other, and located close to great walking trails. I can find no fault with the place - a home away from home, and quite a short drive from Cape Town.

We brought my daughter and her boyfriend for a weekend away at Quince Cottage, it was our second visit to Tierhoek. The cottage was immaculate when we arrived and it was a lovely touch to have fresh wild flowers in the vase on the kitchen table. Loved our time there, very peaceful and quiet...didnt see a soul.....perfect.

We are humbled and grateful to have experienced " Tierhoek Cottages" in Robertson Area, a relaxed and scenic drive a mere 2 hours from Cape Town.

Our heart's are still smiling.

Inside Fire place, wood, flowers, swimming pool, a Braai area that is just perfect to sit back, relax and enjoy the magnificent views.

Hiking trails, bird life , books, magazines, candles,  welcome cards. Extremely comfortable bedrooms. Bathrooms with magical view's across the mountains !!

The Farm Kitchen is well equiped with everything you may need to cook up a storm and sharp knives were an often overlooked surprise!

The Staff's thoughtfulness, friendliness and sincere welcoming nature is a gift.

Sometimes the simplest things mean the most.

We were touched beyond words.

Watching the weavers build and break nests some as indivuduals and others certainly like Gauteng developers was not only fascinating and intriguing but also provided much entertainment, laughter and reflections on what is important in life.

The donkey visits were rewarded with carrots and provided great enjoyment. Can only imagine how children would enjoy this farrm.

We saw 7 toirtoises in total, one seemlingly trying to pust start the other uphill.

The babboon troups with their loud barks that echoe through the valleys, carrying babies, playing in the fields created an authentic experience.

The tranquility Tierhoek provided in resetting out lives was unequalled, having visited many vacation destinations we can unequivocally say is unequalled and more so under a full moon.

Our next booking will be to experience Fig Tree cottage.

You knocked us off my feet!

To the Gilson family: You're the best !!! Thank you for hosting us at such short notice.

We loved the location re stunning views surrounded by towering mountains. Also very private, not a soul in sight & the big plus was our dog was welcome. Attention to detail regarding Accommodation needs well thought out, tastefully furnished & clean. Outside shower marvelous as was the Victorian bath. Spent most of our time on the patio enjoying our private plunge pool, admiring the spectacular scenery & braaiing in the late afternoon. Will definitely return, hopefully soon

We loved our short break at Quince Cottage. The sense of being really private from the other cottages, the sparkling swimming pool, fresh organic fruit in the fridge, silent fans that keep the bedrooms cool and the mozzies away, the circle of agapanthuses around the cottage, the well-equipped kitchen, friendly donkeys, and thoughtful notes to visitors, all made the space really comfortable and welcoming. The owners' love for the property is evident everywhere. It was a privilege to be able to share it. We hope to return soon.

Lovely venue right in the majestic mountains near Robertson, with a gorgeous Infinity pool under a large shady tree that compensated for the heat. Fans in most of the rooms helped as well and the kitchen was fitted out sufficiently. Lovely old farmhouse and nice modern cottage with good walks in the area and easily accessible roads. a good relaxing get-away from the city. Jill Richards

Birthday break with friends in this beautiful valley. We have driven past this valley without turning off, 1000’s of times. We are so happy we got to explore this valley and the incredible Tierhoek farm. An absolutely beautiful, tranquil setting. We enjoyed our first swim of the season in the fantastic pool, a slow cooked potjie and even practiced some “stoeping”, to be recommended! This is a special place indeed. If we were to change one thing, there really would only be the table benches outside, the base protrudes just enough to snag unsuspecting toes, we each had a turn being attacked by said bench, so much so that there was a suspected broken toe. Good news is that it was just a sprain. Other than that ...great! And I’m sure it would be easy to reign in the organic bench just a little 😉

We are so pleased you enjoyed the peace of the Tierhoek Valley, which we love sharing with our guests. Sorry to hear about the toe, they can really get in the way. We'll try sort out the bench issue. The stoeping team highly recommends a rigorous stoeping practice regime so you are well trained when you come back and take on the Tierhoek Stoeps again. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
