Detailed Reviews
Definitely, the best guest house we ever visited. The best king-size bed was perfect and we slept like a baby. The bedding felt like silk and was not necessary to struggle with a duvet in the warm weather. The hospitality was excellent and the breakfast beautifully served. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms beautifull.

Prince Albert is one of my favourite towns in the Western Cape. It is romantic, established with many awesome stores and restaurants and if you walk up one of the Koppies in the early morn, you will experience an awesome sunrise as you reach the top.
For the reasons listed above, we decided to stop over in Prince Albert for the second night of our roadtrip from Johannesburg to Cape Town.
We arrived at Karoo Lodge quite easily, the guesthouse is located on the main road of Prince Albert, but because the guesthouse is built quite deep into the grounds, it is very quiet.
We were greeted by the friendly Elsabe, who quickly showed us the grounds, the pool (ooh, the pool was a lifesaver on this blistering day) and she showed us our room.
The room was sizeable, and it included a little backyard section for those who want to star gaze at night or those just looking for a bit of fresh air
The beds were comfy as we slept right through the night.
In the morning, I left my non-morning partner to snooze and walked through the town. It was quiet and the air crispy fresh. I walked past the Showroom, various antique stores, the butchery in the pink house and made my way uo ti the koppies to watch the sunrise. WORTH IT.
Then I returned for breakfast. Breakfast was the basic warm breakfast, and coffee.

The Karoo Lodge is run by George and Elsabe Peters who are excellent hosts. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The lodge is set within a beautiful garden which has a small swimming pool with sun beds. The rooms are spotlessly clean with very comfortable beds. An excellent hot or cold breakfast is provided. There is plenty of free car parking on site. All of the shops and restaurants in Prince Albert are within walking distance. It is a lovely place to stay if you are visiting Prince Albert.

After a night at Karoo Lodge we were carrying out our luggage just after 10. The hostess appeared and said she was sorry to be 'chasing' us but the room had to be cleaned before 12. Was this comment necessary to a paying customer who was clearly leaving? In the rush to get out of their way, I forgot my orthopaedic pillow. Did the host bother to phone me and say my pillow was there? No, he didn't. Visitors never rush off, there is a morning market and lots to see, so it was very likely we'd still be in town... but no, no phone call. When we arrived home and my husband called the host and asked if they'd drop it off at Pep Stores (down the road) if we paid over the Pep to Pep courier service, his reply was that he would do it if he was paid for the 'trouble' of doing so as well. The Swartberg Hotel owner subsequently agreed to do us this favour!
The room was okay, spacious and clean, but the stones in the shower are certainly unhygienic.
The grounds are very dry because of the drought, and unfortunately no attempt has been made to create a water-wise garden
The breakfast was of good quality.

Response from Karoolodge, Owner at Karoo Lodge
Responded 27 Jan 2020
Hi Unfriendly ? No !!. Your husband seeked to have long conversations , laughs and joke telling with both owners and did not take offense to the company kept It is rational to accept that to courier or mail forgotten items that other than the cost thereof, additional cost become involved, such as purchasing packaging material, time factor and fuel. The fact that you made use of the swimming pool long after departure time (10.00) and that we were running to full capacity and had great need to service the suite which you had occupied, does not require to blame us for you forgetting some of your baggage. We distinctly recall that you were being hurried by your partner and not by us FYI Karoo Lodge is inspected on a regular basis in compliance with heath regulations. The comment offered do not apply

The room is very spacious with a separate bathroom and separate clothing/dressing area. The room was clean and the kept clean. The decor was what you would expect from a traditional karoo establishment with a touch of the Victorian era. A well maintained swimming pool saves the day when the temperatures rises.

We spent one night in this establishment.
Beautifully laid out rooms, spacious, clean and fresh with everything one needs for a comfortable stay. Lovely garden and a sparkling pool added to the appeal.
The owners are extremely helpful, nothing is a bother.
Very good value for money, we thought.
You can't go wrong here.
Highley recommended.

We stayed here for a night en-route to the Eastern Cape. Our rooms were clean and well appointed, and our lodge was right on the main road and a stone's throw away from some lovely restaurants and bars. The lodge was reasonably priced and included a hot breakfat. Would definitely stay again,

We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Karoo View Lodge. A truly beautiful kept place. The cottages are very spacious and equipped with all modern amenities. We can highly recommend it. Prins Albert is a charming little town with lovely Restaurants and Art Shops.

Louise and I have been visiting Prince Albert every year for the past 4 years. For the last 3 years we have stayed with Elsabe and George at Karoo Lodge. This past weekend we took 4 couples with us because we knew that we could expect the same level of service we have always enjoyed on previous visits. Great, clean, comfortable place to stay. You HAVE to sample George's culinary skills on at least one of the evenings you stay at Karoo Lodge. You will not be disappointed.
