We arrived late afternoon after a long drive. When we got to the gate we could of never expected what came next. We got to our room (with both the fireplace and braai prepped and ready to go) and were welcomed with a bottle of wine, a jar of olives, fresh milk and eggs from the animals on the farm. We settled in and started to braai our Karoo lamb with the most breathtaking sunset in the back ground. If I had known the beauty that awaited us I would of stayed at least a week!! After such a long drive I never expected to feel so relaxed, the surroundings allow you to truly unwind like i've never experienced before. I will never stay anywhere else on my way down to the cape! Thank you for the incredible experience and amazing service! Will be back soon to hike those mountains!

I have visited Vrisch Gewagt on a couple short occasions as a stopover on the way down to Cape Town. This was the first time I spent a full week on the farm to properly get away from the Joburg work hustle.

I arrived late to the farm but Chantelle (farm hostess) was already at the gate to take me up to my accommodation. The night was chilly but Hannes Cottage greeted me with that warm farm style vibe, yet it was still very modern and felt spacious even though it is only a small two sleeper cottage. On the kitchen table was a complementary bottle of wine, olive oil and two jars of spiced olives (which I proceeded to order more batches of during the week). The fridge is also stocked daily with fresh organic farm milk from Wendy the resident cow. Everything sourced from the farm is organic including the excellent Karoo Lamb, easily the best lamb chop braai I've had.

The cottages are privately nestled away among the olive groves - look out for the Springbok grazing by the olive trees (nature’s pruners) in the early mornings while enjoying your Nespresso coffee. The cottages are positioned well on a koppie and there are breathtaking views from every window. It's very easy to spend an entire day inside the cottage just relaxing or reading or meditating.

The farm itself is absolute paradise. There are endless "taking it easy" activities to indulge in. I caught the Karoo sunrise on the first morning and was in awe with the way in which nature springs to life around you. The farm really has a special way of capturing nature going about its business - to be planted in the middle of that left me with an experience I wasn't expecting. The evenings are incredible... it seems like the sun sets forever. However before you know it the sky comes alive with billions of stars along the Milky Way with guaranteed sightings of shooting stars. If you look carefully you can even catch the odd satellite cruising across the night sky. If you are feeling adventurous try locate the black pools where the mountain water meets the river that runs through the farm. Be careful of the snakes though (as the farm manager warned) but don't worry, you're most likely to always have two rugged farm dogs, a friendly but feisty Jack Russell and his buddy, who have no problem accompanying you on your explorations.

If you feel like exploring outside the farm there is always the quaint town of Prince Albert or you could take a trip up the famous Swartberg Pass, both within 30min drive from the farm.

I highly recommended the experience for anyone who appreciates relaxing, nature, good food and pure silence... you'll never want to leave. I'll definitely be coming back in 2017.

Thank you to everyone at Vrisch Gewagt.

We planned an escape to the Karoo for New Years 2016. We had our 3 dogs with us so needed a pet-friendly spot. We were 4 adults travelling.

Approaching the farm, you drive closer and closer to a mountain range that promises some respite from the heat.
The farm itself is stunning. It's 'farmy' but also has an feel of luxury and comfort.
We had reserved the Library cottage and were thrilled that it was the last cottage in the row of cottages! (they are totally adequately spaced but its just that 'extra' bit private ;)

The welcome onto the farm was great.. Chantelle was kind and thorough.
We could not believe the generosity with the gifts of olive oil, olives, milk, wine...
I wish we had bought some wine to take away, it was delicious!
Another surprise was that the cottage was serviced.. That made us very happy :)
All staff were super pleasant.
Chantelle really did go the extra mile prepping our Karoo lamb. We had a braai the one night and a potjie the next. The lamb is just YUM! Even when we asked for some herbs, Chantelle arrived with a fresh bunch of everything we could possibly need.

The cottage is gorgeous. Its quirky, well appointed, spacious and cool. The beds were incredibly comfy, the linen was wonderful, the bathrooms spacious and lavish.
We were absolutely cool enough with windows open at night and the fans on.. I love the fact that their is no AC.
We enjoyed that there was no TV but was pleasantly surprised that there was free Wifi... Not just on the farm, but in the cottage! (Mobile phone reception is poor)
The view out the living room windows was just stunning and the breeze from the mountain side, most welcome!
The kitchen facilities were fabulous. all great quality, everything in perfect working order.

The pool was amazing.. quite chilly! ;) but in that heat, a welcome break!

We LOVED the dams and decks.. especially the one far west on the farm. Wish we had had another day just to laze around there!

Stargazing out the back of the cottage on the steps sipping tea was how we spent New Years Eve and just LOVED it.

The surrounds were great, we really felt removed and private. The doggies LOVED it! I did keep them at my side at first but by the end they were scampering around the olive groves all on their own :) Chantelle warned us of snakes.. so one must just be a bit cautious. We had no problem with any 'unwanted' visitors ;)

Really a delightful spot. I have no doubt we will be back time and time again!

Thanks to all who made our stay so lovely!

This place was really exceptional and Lara and Chantelle were above and beyond to make us feel welcome.

Beautifully decorated - very private in the most amazing landscapes. We particularly enjoyed swimming in the dam all day.

Coming both from very busy jobs in NY and London, we were looking to just switch off and relax! This was the perfect hideaway. Don't even think twice - just book it.

Prince Albert was a short drive away, but fir us it was perfect just being wrapped around in nature away from it all.

Do yourself a favour and walk out at night and look up - you won't see the amount of stars like this anywhere else.

Lastly - do order some chops... they were just out of this world.

6 stars from us!

This is a lovely property situated 35km outside Prince Albert. It has springbok roaming freely, some stunning views and, if the moon allows, amazing views of the stars. An ideal place to get away from modern life.Highly recommended.

Paradys Huis is a fantastic property on Vrisch Gewagt Farm! It has wonderful amenities and views. The house is beautifully decorated, very spacious and accommodated our family of 5 very comfortably with room to spare! The walks and views during October are outstandingly beautiful. We would recommend this property to anyone looking to experience a peaceful, farm-style holiday.

We stayed for three nights during winter. We just loved the setting, the decor, cozy fireplaces and the quietness. The kids enjoyed exploring the farm and just being free to be. Will definitely return!

We recently stayed at Vrischgewagt for a long weekend...in a gorgeously and exclusively decorated boutique cottage...the detail and interior design was exquisite.... and the location, an olive Grove...so magical...
The stars and milky way at night were breathtaking!
And the best best karoo lamb we have ever eaten!
And the hostess was so friendly and welcoming!
It was the most perfect getaway....and we are actually planning to return in December!
It's location, not too far from Cape Town but also far enough is absolutely perfect and also it's proximity to the quaint little karoo town of Prince Albert, Outshoorn and the Cango Caves makes it a perfect destination...

We booked 'The Artist cottage' on the farm, a beautiful characteristic cottage with absolute breathtaking views! Warmly decorated, very private, very quiet, very natural, a perfect hideaway! The cottage with fireplace in the living and one in the bedroom (great) with more than enough fire-wood were really nice. And the kitchen with good pans and everything in it you need (even a Nespresso machine with complimentary coffee cups) was just perfect. The olive farm is so beautiful, with its olive trees, dams, paths and stunning views, in short a place very you can 300% relax and enjoy nature.
Unfortunately we had one problem; our geyser dit not work properly, but this problem was so well solved, we could take a shower in the newly renovated Paradys House, and wow that is also a real stunning place to stay! We will definitely come back to this boutique farm.
