Our family spent 3 nights in the Country House. Chantelle met us on arrival and guided us through the building, explaining everything so clearly. There are so many places to relax, from the inside lounge areas to the external patios and braai areas; even a boma set a short distance from the house. The beds are very comfortable and all provided amenities are first class. The kitchen and dining area are something out of a Country House magazine and were set with ample cutlery and wine glasses for our arrival. Plenty of wood is provided for cold nights and braais.

We had a most wonderful long weekend stay at Vrisch Gewagt. The accommodation is excellent and the farm is really beautiful. The owners and manager are extremely accommodating and friendly and they made sure that our stay was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. Will definitely visit again soon!

After a few hours on the road Vrischgewagt appeared as an oasis in the karoo. Little did we know what was in store for us. We were warmly welcomed by Chantelle at the Library cottage. Opening the front door and seeing the table set and walking through the stunningly decorated living area, spacious bedrooms and bathrooms was simply thrilling. Our stay was amazing and although we wanted to do a lot more sightseeing we always rushed to our warm fireplace and comfortable home from home. A Smeg fridge, Nespresso machine, crisp bedlinen, electric blankets, king size beds and fluffy towels were just some of the comforts offered. Not to mention our gifts of olives, olive oil and farm eggs. Our 4 days went by too quickly. Meiringspoort waterfall so pristine and Prince Albert and De Rust with it's small country feel and meandering streams and friendly people also a must see. What a way to recharge. Highly recommend.

Wow, there are not words to describe this majestic farm. Home away from home and even more.
Spoils of beautiful, stylish accommodation, indoor fireplace with ample firewood. Complementary olives, olive oil and wine as well…Load shedding…what was that? You didn’t even notice. Most quiet peaceful place with views that one can only dream of combined with farm life and little critters.
If you need to unwind, this is most definitely the place to be. Chantelle the farm manages, she went above and beyond her call of duties. So friendly and accommodating. Homer our fur baby loved every moment of being free and meeting a buddy there on the farm (The farm dog). He even met cows and sheep for the first time.
I would highly recommend this place to anyone. My fiancé is into Astrophotography and I’m telling you, the stars are so bright and untouched by city light pollution. I could go on and on about how amazing this place was. It was so sad to leave. Let me tell you that the 4-hour tip from Cape Town is well worth it,come rain or sunshine. You will most definitely see us again. I can wait to show your beautiful place off to friends. Thank you so much for such a beautiful unforgettable stay.

Perfect location to enjoy the tranquility, light and colour of the Karoo. There are two well marked circular paths for a gentle walk to take in the endless vistas of the Swartberg mountains and open skies. The cottage was tastefully furnished with lovely and welcoming little touches added by the staff led by Chantelle, the delightful manager.

I am left with a bitter taste.
The "deposit" of R 1000 is a bit cheeky as it is, but to have to wait a week for it to be refunded, and then only after a prompting, and then the insult of being paid R 900 in refund with no explanation! No response as yet from them as to when the last measly R100 will be returned.
The poetic description of the location conjures dreamy thoughts until the reality strikes. The site of power lines obscuring the view, and the sound of rumbling trucks and traffic at high speed on the adjoining tar road spoil what would otherwise be a very peaceful place. (At least at night the traffic subsided)
Place needs some attention.

Response from Lara Casasola, Owner at Vrisch Gewagt Boutique Olive Farm
Responded 15 May 2021
Dear Ian, What a disappointment to receive a review that clearly is an attempt to damage the excellent reputation the farm has built. You review was untruthful and distorted because you were upset for us taking R100 for breaking a water glass. Did you not know you broke the glass?? You say that we did not get back to you, when I have proof of the email explaining the reason before your review was posted. You vote us 2 stars for value, when we upgraded you for free to Cooks cottage. A saving of R2300. You drank our complimentary bottle of wine, ate our complimentary olives and olive oil made on the farm. Drank 10 x complimentary Nespresso pods. And used 6 crates of fire wood. All under a self-catering experience. And you claim there was no value? You rate us 1 star for location and say lies of traffic noise, when the farm is positioned on the Swartberg nature reserve measuring 1200sq/km which is a UNESCO world heritage site and our farm is 16sq/km. The nearest town is 35km away. All our other reviews score us highly because of the peace and serenity that they experienced on the farm. Disgraceful and disappointing!!

This place is absolutely perfect. The pool the dams, the view ,the cottage . We loved every single corner. We spent 3 days at this gorgeuos farm and the manager Chantelle made us feel at home. The braai and the fireplace pack with wood and ready for us to use is just an example of how they pay attention to the needs and the comfort of their clients . More their products ( oil, olives and meat) are really really good. The owner Lara and Chantelle the manager are really wonderful people.. we can' t wait to visit them again and spend another long weekend here. This place is good for your heart and your soul.

I have to tell you that I cannot thank you enough for convincing us to stay for 2 nights on the farm! And it still wasn’t enough! We were so busy we didn’t actually have time to unwind there BUT we will be planning a future trip there and STAY on the farm to enjoy the walks and the surrounds because WOW it is GORGEOUS!

Chantelle was amazing and the Sheep, Cows, Springbok and Big Doggy came to visit us too!! 😊 We walked to the stunning pool and can only image having a swim on a hot summers day in there!

The Lamb Chops were out of this world as was the Milk from Andi! And it was so divine to enjoy your Olive Oil, Olives and Wine too!!

We saw the Moon Rising over the mountains on the Tuesday night it was soooo Beautiful!

The room was well thought out, clean and had absolutely everything you could want or need.

The Bath Ducks were too cute and the attention to detail is exceptional!

It was absolutely perfect and a magical place indeed and we have left a bit of our Soul there! I definitely want to be marooned there for a week in the future with a good book to fully unwind…

The warmest welcome was the beginning of a lovely stay. @rolo.thegreat , our Great Dane was also welcomed with open arms. The Cook's cottage was well equipped, lovely eclectic decor and the special touches of olives, oil and eggs made our weekend even more special. A shooting star made it even more special!

This was our second stay at Paradys Huis at Vrisch Gewacht. It is an incredibly beautifully decorated old farm house with 360 degree views of the stunning Karoo. We love the stillness, and peace of this setting. There are plenty of farm animals which our girls love to see, and feeding the claves was a treat. They love the freedom of riding on the farm roads. The dam is stunning. The walks are lovely. And the olives and olive oil, and farm eggs are delicious! We will definitely be back. Chantelle looks after her guests so beautifully!
