An authentic Karoo experience ... The upmarket Assendelft Lodge & Bush Camp offers luxury lodge or safari style accommodation in the Great Karoo near Beaufort West, Leeu-Gamka, Laingsburg & Prince Albert. Come and experience one of the world's most unique arid zones and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the Karoo - rest, relax, refresh & recharge your batteries. Assendelft Lodge is the ideal overnight stop for long distance travellers. It offers four elegantly decorated queen, air-conditioned bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms. Each room has its own private entrance with an outside patio where you can sit and enjoy a drink while you take in the surroundings of the Karoo or do some star watching at night. If you enjoy being close to nature our tented chalets at the Bush Camp are for you. Each chalet has its own braai area and for larger groups, a communal braai area is available where you can sit around the campfire, under the stars at night. Wood is available from the lodge for just making a fire or enjoy a braai. Lights in the chalets are solar powered and hot water is generated by a traditional hot water "donkey". There is a solar powered fridge and plug point for charging of cellphones and media devices.

Well worth the night over. refreshingly basic. Beautiful sky. This highlights what the Karoo is all about, and brings out its unique character. Being fully off-grid and sustainable with so little power shows what we can easily do without. Old school bush camp before all the bells and whistles clouded the essence of what the point is. Well done guys!

Hi Chris Thank you for your review! Glad you enjoyed the Bush Camp, we do try no to modernise the Bush Camp too much as we want the stay to be rustic and traditional. Your review excites us as we are trying to establish an accommodation type in the middle of the Karoo of what we think a Bush Camp should be and at the same time achieving our goals by meeting your expectations. We hope you will stay with us again! Regards Andre & Stephanie

Our family enjoyed a comfortable overnight stay at Assendelft camp. The kids enjoyed a swim in the dam and we loved the setting of the boma as the sun set over the Karoo landscape. Chalets and beds were comfortable and we liked the amenities such as the donkey to heat water. We had a really nice evening at the boma and the hosts were effective and kind. Will definitely recommend Assendelft for an overnight stay

Run by the most wonderful couple, we booked in, had a sundowner drive organized in a flash(even a cooler box full of G&T) Dinner was from the farm all organic produce. Travel tips were given, stories told around the fire. We went to bed looking at the stars in the Karoo sky! Breakfast was ready with a bottomless cup of freshly brewed coffee and we hit the road on time. Payment was all done electronically, very convenient

My husband and I took our daughters 25 and 9 to Assendelft on our way to St Francis Bay. We were welcomed warmly by the hosts and enjoyed this oasis in the middle of the Karoo. The decor in the guest house is very tranquil and we were surprised by the variety of dishes on the menu, which included bobotie, lamb curry and the Karoo lamb chops which were excellent. We travelled from there through Prince Albert the next day on our way to St Francis Bay and there were a number of wine farms and an olive farm along the way which would be great to explore with the lodge as a base. Will definitely be back and looking forward to spending more time there next time.

We stayed 1 night on our way to the coast. The accommodation is very convenient on the side of the N1 but not too close. It was easy to find. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The toilet in the bedroom was separate which is convenient. There was a shower. The rooms are compact but not lacking in anything. There were aircons in both our rooms. We asked to have our own braai and everything was set out for us. We watched a storm coming which was a beautiful sight. Outside is kept very neat with crushed stone. For us, this is a very convenient stop-over. The tariff is reasonable.

We stayed a night in the lodge to explore Prince Albert -Fernkloof Wines a must! The lodge rooms are tastefully & luxuriously decorated as per their website pictures - a great overnight spot! But is was the bush camp at Assendelft that delivered the magic - we decided to experience the vastness of the Karoo and stayed another night at the bush camp...clean, neat set up of chalets surrounded by Karoo veld. The owners, Stephanie & André made us a game "potjie" while we walked the easy, circular footpath with our curious companion, Titan - the resident Gemsbok, ambling along with us...Steenbok abound...a magical experience! My husband said it was like walking on the moon. We will definitely revisit the bush camp for the stillness the Karoo has to offer.
