You will immediately feel at home as you slow down to the relaxed pace of country life and take time to experience simple beauty, the attention to detail - the odd shaped rooms - the garden with quirky stone men - the warm and inviting lounge leading onto a large shaded garden with swimming pool, bedrooms with French doors and shutters opening into the garden - the harshness of the Karoo that gives you grace in the evening and gentleness in the morning. Our guest accommodation and facilities are separate from our own, affording our guests a level of privacy not normally associated with a guesthouse. High speed WiFi is available throughout, and the property is not affected by load shedding. We accept credit cards (Visa and MasterCard only).

Our stay at Onse Rus was just about perfect. Neil and Leonard are ideal hosts, and will have answered your needs before you realise you required anything. Their consideration and attention to detail are second to none and their care is reflected throughout the establishment.

The accommodation itself is stylishly opulent and sensitive to the historical context of the building. The rooms are generously provisioned and wonderfully cool during the heat of the day.

We thoroughly enjoyed breakfast beside the pool in the zen like garden. We loved how they use local produce as much as possible, with fresh milk and yoghurt from the local dairy, home baked bread and fresh garden produce.

It was our first trip to Prince Albert, which in itself is a delight. Leonard and Neil were very knowledgeable and really made our stay very easy by sharing their local knowledge, booking ahead for restaurants and bike hire (we are keen cyclists and ), even for our onward journey.

In short; a peaceful, stylish oasis in the beautiful Prince Albert, with the perfect hosts. We will certainly return.

If you like Karoo cottage accommodations with the thatch roof and tall walls, you’ll like staying at Onse Rus, a main-street B&B owned and operated by two very accommodating guys…Neal and Leonard. Parking in front on the street is easy and safe and if you need off-street parking, they can help there. Weather permitting, breakfast is served next to the pool which makes for a lovely atmosphere. And Leonard is skilled at producing amazing dinners if you ask ahead…try his Moroccan chicken with a bit of white wine. Prices are very competitive and it’s a place you’ll go to time and again if you need accommodation in Prince Albert.

We went to see an art exhibition and discovered a gem in the town of Prince Albert. Leonard and Neil have created such a warm and welcoming home from home that it was almost difficult to leave. Not only are the rooms super comfortable with everything one could possibly want, from enough electrical plugs to charge all devices to delicious rusks on the tea tray to large fluffy towels and crisp bedding. Pure luxury.

We were booked in to this old historic guesthouse when we did the Gravelgrinder
Leonard end Neil were always around and let you feel so welcome
Day after cycling in terrible rainy weather with dirty cycling clothes they came to fetch and wash the clothes without asking them
Was super impressed with the service
Lunch with them were really cuisine. Felt we were in a cuisine restaurant in France .
Best bread
Strongly recommend Onse Rus

Every year I spoil myself with a little solo trip to Prince Albert and always stay at Onse Rus Guesthouse, run by the amazing couple Leonard and Neil. I knew after my first visit that I want to return every year as it’s the perfect spot to relax, work remotely or just enjoy some me-time. The rooms are all perfect and most walk out into a big courtyard with a gorgeous pool and what feels like a small bird sanctuary. The front stoep is the best place to enjoy the end of the day and watching the town slow down. Morning breakfast is a feast with Leonard’s amazing homemade sourdough bread and all produce is locally sourced or homemade. Try the scrambled eggs with his homemade kimchi on the side - yum.

Definitely treat yourself to a weekend or week at the amazing guesthouse. Thanks Leonard & Neil for creating this amazing space in the Karoo.

We had a great stay at Onse Rus in July - a very welcome respite from city living, in a charming historic property with an enviably central location.

Leonard & Neil are caring & attentive hosts. Accommodation is well thought-out & comfortable. There's a lovely inner garden oasis with swimming pool and a chilled & relaxed atmosphere.

Breakfast was delicious and Leonard arranged a tasty in-house supper for us one evening. There's an interesting wine list for those who drink.

Prince Albert is a pristine jewel of a town, filled with just the right mixture of shops, galleries, restaurants and pleasing architecture.

I can speak for everyone in our group when I say that 'we'll be back'. Soon.

While planning a recent roadtrip through the Karoo we booked an evening at Onse Rus for no particular reason, with this turning into one of the best decisions we made for the trip.

Unfortunately our trip had a little incident the night before arriving at Prince Albert and we had to make a few special arrangements, and so we called ahead. The owners were more than understanding and accommodated us and made us feel right at home. They added personal touches to the room (they even added a little joke about our incident on our welcoming letter) and even made a reservation for us at a local restaurant for that evening. It being a roadtrip buddy's birthday that same day, Neil (one of the owners) surprised us by taking a few candles over to the restaurant to make our desserts even more special!

Our quite spacious room was clean and well equipped to stave off the cold of the late autumn nights and had convenient access to a side road for loading our bags off and on.

The next morning for breakfast we were greeted with homemade jams, homemade bread and kimchi omelettes! The kimchi was also homemade by Leonard (one of the owners) and was a surprising taste of Korea in the middle of the Karoo. The kimchi was not as spicy as you might expect from most, but it definitely had that delicious "sourness" and tang to it, I would definitely recommend trying some while there.

It's unfortunate that we only had a single night here, but because of the hospitality, the level of service and the food, Onse Rus is a place I'll gladly plan a trip around!

Hi Con M, Thank you for taking the time to leave such a wonderfully detailed review of your stay with us at Onse Rus. In this industry, every now and again we get a request straight out the left field. Happy we could help out in a pickle! Delighted you enjoyed the kimchi, I do try to keep it a little milder, as it suits our palates more. Next time you visit I'll make sure I have a spicy patch ready for you! Leonard

If you’re road-tripping through the Karoo, a stop-over in Prince Albert is an absolute must. And when you do, staying at Onse Rus guest house is more than recommended.
Located on the main road through town, you can’t miss it and makes it ideal for exploring the town on foot. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very spacious. To escape the heat of the Karoo, Onse Rus boasts a little oasis with a pool which is ideal to relax.
Hosts Leonard and Neil are extremely welcoming and happy to help with whatever you may need. They know the town very well and are happy to share their knowledge and insider tips.
Last but not least: the breakfast is more than generous and absolutely delicious.
What was supposed to be a weekend trip ended up in a 10-day long stay. A true gem (and also dog friendly).

After experiencing Leonard and Neil’s hospitality and the charming Karoo town of Prince Albert we couldn’t help but extend our stay at the beautifully appointed and historic Onse Rus. Centrally located, we chose to take in the town on foot and strolled from restaurant to art gallery, coffee shop and antique store. We returned in the late afternoons to the tranquil courtyard garden at Onse Rus with swimming pool, honesty bar and covered outdoor seating - the perfect spot for pre dinner drinks. As the evenings got cooler we were brought freshly laundered mohair blankets to keep us toasty. Hospitality and attention to detail seems effortless here. Our en suite rooms were spacious, warm and comfortable with living area, kitchenette and doors that open onto the lawned courtyard and pool. All spotlessly clean. A home away from home - just better.
