Yellow House is a working farm on the outskirts of the historical Karoo town Prince Albert with a chef-run restaurant, serving seasonal cuisine and artisinal pizze. The stylishly decorated, spacious cottages are equipped for self-catering. Each cottage has its own entrance and private outside fireplace. The view of the mountains and orchards are unsurpassed. Hiking, mountain biking and local produce such as figs and olives are but a few of the attractions of the area.

Detailed Reviews
We had a wonderful stay at the Yellow House, which is a small working farm on the outskirts of Prince Albert. Petro and Joubert have gone to a lot of effort to ensure the cottages have everything you may need and are tastefully decorated. The location of the cottages encapsulates the beautiful surroundings and the fruit and nut fields on the farm adding to the overall experience. Our hosts were incredibly accommodating and even provided an excellent meal on request for our last nights stay. Thank you, we hope to be back sooner rather than later.

Petro was a wonderful host keeping contact with us before our trip. We asked about a picnic breakfast for the next day and she made a healthy meal, as my husband is diabetic, and it was delicious.
Petro met us at the gate and showed us to our room which was very comfortable with a beautiful view of the orange and peach orchards.
The aroma of the orange blossoms was awesome
I will definitely refer friends and family to Yellow House

We stayed at the Yellow House for a one week "workaway." We were extremely satisfied. The cottages are charming and clean with all amenities one would need, great wifi, fireplace, and ample space for our staffie to run around. We stayed in the Lavender pet-friendly unit.
Petro and Jourbet were amazing hosts - extremely hospitable, warm and accommodating. They went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable during our stay.
The restaurant was the best restaurant in Prince Albert so I highly recommend dining there. The Yellow House is also conveniently located from town with easy access to the Swartberg Pass with breathtaking views.
Our stay at the Yellow House was amazing and I recommend staying and dining there to anyone visiting Prince Albert.

We spent a long weekend as an extended family at Yellow House and it was absolutely wonderful. The cottages are comfortable and homey. The vistas into the mountains were magnificent and free from light polution. The hospitality shown by Petro and Joubert was warm and nothing was too much trouble. The cooking out of Petro's restaurant was top notch - a proper Kokkedoor chef.
A highlight was a family cooking class in Petro's kitchen - please ask for this when you book and you have enough people. So much fun and we are all now cooking the dishes we learnt.
Well worth a visit - out of the hubbub of town, but so much better for it.

This review is relatively objective being my 17th road trip staying in 18 properties over a 43 night period,
I stayed solo for one night in February.
Easily found just on the edge of town with plenty of off street parking.
It was the owners ‘day off’, so was greeted by the manager, who was efficient and friendly.
Lavender Cottage was located slightly away from the main building in the well maintained garden bordering the orchard. Large and perhaps one of the best equipped self catering units I’ve stayed in. Nespresso type coffee machine. Comfortable and clean. The aircon wasn’t needed as surprisingly cool indoors.
The in house EAT restaurant was closed, so a reservation was made for me in an excellent restaurant in town. No breakfast provided, but the excellent Lazy Lizard breakfast/lunch spot is just down the road.
Decent WiFi.
No generator, but standby lights provided.
The only niggle was a rooster in the adjacent property that thought it was dawn at 0300 - but hey, this is the countryside.
If visiting Prince Albert again I’d probably only stay when the EAT restaurant was open (I knew it was closed before booking)

Petro, you cannot never take walks-inns off the street in preference to your pre/paid clients and offer them pizza instead of a spot in your restaurant And then, conditionally try and block us from eating somewhere else because we had not booked at any other restaurant! In a one horse backwater of PA, where socialism rules( all restaurants open at 18h00 and close at 20h00 -and no table unless booked)! Been to PA twice before and loved it-but this last visit was shocking !

Dear Guest, thank you for this review. Even though Yellow House Guest Farm and Yellow House EAT restaurant are on the same premises, the cottages are self-catering and we do not automatically assume that our guests will be dining at the restaurant. Your review has made us realise that we need to communicate that more clearly to our guests. During the holiday season the restaurant is fully booked days, sometimes weeks in advance, so we hardly take walk-ins, unless there is a cancellation and no waiting list. We are truly sorry for your bad experience. With regards to us blocking you from eating elsewhere, I'm afraid I have to strongly disagree with you. We have very good relationships with all the restauranteurs in town and regularly refer our guests to any of the restaurants in town. Guests like yourselves wrongly assume that there will be space for them in restaurants during the busy season. All of the restaurants in PA have excellent reputations and output due to the town being somewhat of a gastronomical destination. None of us are willing to overbook and sacrifice our quality and the experience of guests that have booked in advance. 'Socialism' is an interesting term to use....99% of visitors to PA remark on how clean and peaceful the town is. That is because we all look after it and that is why we don't stay open late. Tourists come here to relax and enjoy the quiet nights and we respect that. And incidentally it is only our kitchens that close around 20h00/20h30. Your review makes it sound as if we shoo our guests away and close the doors! I also have to disagree with you that all restaurants only open at 18h00. There are a number of restaurants already open at that time. Most were just full, again because guests had booked in advance. Lastly, we confidently offered you our pizzas, because they are magnificent. A pity you missed out on enjoying them, sitting on your stoep under the beautiful Karoo night sky and soaking in the peace of the place. If you scroll down through our reviews, you will notice that most of our other guests grabbed that opportunity and loved it.

We stayed in the Mustard Cottage. It was very comfortable, neat and clean. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need. It also had coffee, tea, rusks, sugar, espresso machine and even fresh milk and water in the fridge. On the dining table there was flowers picked from the garden and it made us feel welcome. Petro and Joubert are awesome hosts. The place is just on the outside of town which makes it a peaceful relaxing place to stay. We stayed there last year also and will definitely stay there again. Good value for money

An absolute gem in the Klein Karoo. The beautiful, cool interiors offer a respite from the summer heat. What a charming setting – also with a world class restaurant on the premises. I appreciated the excellent, friendly service from Petro and her team. Lavender Cottage was equipped with everything one might require from coffee, tea, milk, sugar and home-made rusks to soap, mosquito repellent, firelighters, matches and wood. The decor is fresh and comfortable. Ideal as a special stopover in the Klein Karoo.

My second time at Yellow House in Prince Albert. Once you discover this jewel in Prince Albert, you wont even consider staying over in another place. Joubert and Petro are the most wonderful hosts, the accommodation inside the rooms are so nicely decorated with the finest detail. In addition to this, you will hardly find a place that can compare to the dinners they prepare. Absolutely a feast to experience.
Thanks so much, we will definately be back soon.
