Detailed Reviews
First of all Prince Albert is a brilliant place to visit, not just a one street town but full of character. Howard and Marion have a few places to stay in PA and we had two nights in Karoo View Cottages which we enjoyed tremendously. Although located outside the town it’s only a short walk to get to numerous coffee houses and restaurants. Typical Karoo charm, large room and importantly good air conditioning as well as fan with netting above the bed which protected us from the mossies etc. We also had an enclosed area to brai and a plunge pool.
We also stayed in the Masterclass Cottage which is actually in the centre of town but separated from the main road by lovely gardens which contain raised vegetable beds with produce available for picking. More modern property with every convenience, very comfortable and totally secure.
I couldn’t recommend the town and both venues more highly and in these troubled times it was very pleasing how strict the owners were with hygiene and covid protocols.

This time round we stayed at Howard and Marions Karoo Masterclass, 5 star luxury in the Karoo. This house has everything you could wish for and more........, situated a short walk through the Olive Grove to the main street to browse. Most important thing to remember about Prince Albert is that over New Year and over a weekend most places are closed or close early. A little disappointed as we did not get to browse at the quaint stores along the main road. We did, however get to visit Gays Guernsey Dairy and sample their delicious Mozzarella, have lunch at O for Olive and buy Olive Oil at Prince Albert Olives and of course have a Gin at the Green Prince Gin Bar, Candyfloss Gin a bit of fun. I did not find the people of Prince Albert as friendly this time round (we were last there 2 years ago) and serious water issues which may be a contributing factor but good to see the town educated and educating the tourists on the water shortages. The only downfall with this house is the flies as its so close to the dairy and therefore one has to keep the doors and windows closed but the house is well airconditioned for the soaring daytime temps. The best beds we have ever slept on (in the main house) and the most comfortable sleep the whole holiday!. This house has 3 parts to it, main house with 3 bedrooms, cottage can sleep kids/grandparents, smaller apartment kind of room at the back, clean and comfy. Perfect house for larger families who still want their privacy. Thanks Howard, couldnt find Karoo Masterclass on Trip Advisor hence my review here.

We booked for one night at Karoo Master Class Cottage.
On arrival we were greeted by the owner Howard Moliison who showed us around in detail. The house that we were upgraded to had 3 bedrooms for the 3 of us. We ordered a braai menu to be delivered to the house which we braaied under the stars and swam in the delightful pool. The facilities were the best that we have ever stayed in in travelling the R62bfor 25 years!!! The attention to detail was even better in your own home. Everyone always says they will be back but never go. Howard we will be back i promise. We got up early and walked all over the town and bought fresh bread and went back and had breakfast. We left with a heavy heart over the Swartberg Pass
Thank you Howard!!

There was something special about staying at Karoo View Cottages.
We were initially worried about travelling during these uncertain times, especially during a second wave of covid, but Karoo View has gone the extra mile to make you feel extremely safe. Extra precaution has been taken to ensure that everything is sanitised and contactless.
The host, Howard, went out of his way to make sure our stay in Prince Albert was an amazing first experience.
In terms of the cottage itself, we had everything we could possibly need during our stay. It was super clean and comfortable, and the view from the veranda was really, really beautiful.
We brought our dogs. When we arrived, Howard had arranged for pet fencing on our veranda and when we weren’t using that, they were free to roam in the enclosed area outside, which they loved. There’s a really nice walk you can do right outside the cottages which we did every morning, which also added to the experience of our stay.
The tranquility and beauty of Karoo View has made me want to definitely return again soon!

We managed a long weekend away from the city to stay in Prince Albert at the Karoo View Cottages where we have stayed before. The “Master Class Cottage” is the one to go for if you want to be in town where everything is within walking distance. It’s a bit more expensive but it’s very modern, spacious and well appointed. A special treat would be to ask the proprietors Howard and Marion, for their “in-house dinner” which they prepare at the main dining room of the lodge. You get a great meal with a view of the Karoo for a reasonable price and you have only to arrive hungry. It’s a great weekend in an interesting town with very accommodating owners.

We have stayed here several times in the past and we continue to be impressed with everything about this place. One of the most important factors is that it is pet friendly and we like to travel with our 2 small dogs. Located in an elevated position on the edge of town, the property has outstanding views across town to the towering mountains – great Karoo scenery. It is located right across the road from a reserve of sorts with lots of hiking trails up small hillocks – great place to walk the dogs or go for a run. It’s just a few minute’s drive into the main part of the town.
We received a warm welcome from our hosts Howard and Marion and they went out of their way to make us feel at home, as well as cooking us some excellent meals! This place is well-managed and the cottages are all well-maintained, spotlessly clean. The grounds are very attractively landscaped with lots of Karoo style rock gardens, walking paths, braai areas, and a pool area. Our cottage was luxurious – very roomy, bright, with great views out to the mountains. The kitchen was big, fully equipped, and fully functional. One could easily prepare proper meals in this kitchen. All the furnishings were good quality and very comfortable. Being the middle of winter, the weather was a touch on the cool side, however we had a strong heat pump/AC unit, as well as a beautiful open fireplace that really warmed the place up. We had a decent selection of DSTV programming as well as free Wifi internet. There was a small selection of breakfast fixings in the kitchen (cereal, juice, etc) and they can provide excellent dinner meals on request. We had an amazing chicken curry one night and some great pizzas and salad the next. We couldn’t really ask for much more and can’t really find anything to complain about.
We had another excellent stay here and will continue to use this place as base for any future stays in Prince Albert. Highly recommended to all travelers.

Wow, such high words of praise, we need to make sure we keep our eye on the ball and not let our standards drop. We appreciate having you as guests and just as a matter of interest, we have started work on fencing off the verandah area on that cottage to make it more pet friendly. Fence will be up by Friday of this week. Travel safely and we would love to check you in again. Howard and Marion.

The cottage is on the edge of Prince Albert, easily walkable to the main road. We really enjoyed our stay. The property was very comfortable- nice comfy bed and good bathroom. There are lovely views of the mountains from the terrace. The staff were very friendly - we stayed with our baby and the owner went out of her way to find us a high chair. They can prepare food for an outdoor barbecue which we enjoyed a lot. The cottage was also great value for money.

A fantastic place to stop over, great service and a wonderful cottage. Everything we needed was in the cottage and the staff who welcomed us made a point of being attentive to our wishes. The decor suits the surrounds and sitting outside gives breathtaking views across to the mountains.

My friend and I stayed at Karoo View 6-9Aug2022.
We both think that this is one of the best equipped Bed & Breakfast places that we have stayed at
Spacious rooms, luxury feeling. Should one need anything it will be supplied or will be assisted to get it
We used the outside pool which one needs to use wood to make a fire to heat the pool and that was amazing. Sitting in a heated pool on 7Aug22 in winter in the Karoo
I left my jersey & 2 polonek jerseys, it was couriered to me by Karoo View within 7 days to Stellenbosch for only R100.00
We recommend the Karoo View!

Cleanliness, detail in what is provided such as serviettes, kitchen roll, matches, firelighters etc is very well thought out and makes it so much easier for the guest. Nothing too much trouble. Cottage 1 had great views and lovely stoep. Wood fired hot tub was included with this cottage. but was not clear that it takes hours to heat up, produces a lot of smoke and is very strong chlorine. plan well in Advance if you want to use it when you arrive. That was my only negative of this fabulous place. The room
Itself was perfect for me with three kids.
