My husband and I stayed here for a wedding in early February and we didn't want to leave. It's situated in a beautiful part of Hout Bay, just far enough from town and Constantia Nek that you can travel in either direction for easy access to Cape Town, Newlands, or a scenic drive along Chapman's Peak and beyond to Cape Point. It would be an ideal home base location for tourists to the Cape.

Deniele and Wayne had just taken over on site and as a result they were very busy adjusting to their new roles, but this did not prevent them from providing us with a warm, friendly welcome and prompt responses to any and all of our questions or requests - often going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.

The room was beautifully appointed, private and had a gorgeous view of the mountains, as well as a jacuzzi which we sadly didn't get a chance to use. The furnishings were comfortable and stylish and everything was spotlessly clean.

Our booking included a romance package with sparkling wine, dinner, chocolates, roses and a massage for each of us, and every detail was looked after for us. Dinner was fantastic, the wine selection was lovely and the massages by Shirley were thoroughly enjoyed and much needed!

What we loved most about our stay was the relaxed atmosphere. In a lot of hotels, we often feel overwhelmed with offers for service and sometimes the feeling of being watched by staff. It's simply not like that at theLAB. Staff are friendly and approachable, but unobtrusive, and guests are free to roam and make themselves comfortable by the fantastic pool or on the patio, help themselves to towels to swim and the provision of scooters is helpful for those without a vehicle (although we didn't use them). Breakfast was served on the patio and everything was cooked beautifully, accompanied by fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, banana bread and coffee in a buffet style in the dining room.

One of the most impressive aspects for us though was the honor system at the bar, which we absolutely LOVED. The freedom to make a selection and not feel waited on gave us the feeling of being at home and we were more than happy to keep track of and pay for what we took at the end of our stay.

The tech on site is still a work in progress, particularly with frequent load shedding in effect, but we found the ability to turn on lights, set an alarm, play music and control the blinds with voice controls a fun novelty which absolutely added value to our stay.

Overall, we would definitely stay at the LAB again and 100% would recommend it to friends and family traveling to the area.
Thanks again to Deniele, Wayne, Bird and the rest of the team for a fantastic stay!

Hygge! This perfectly describes this elegant, relaxing but super equipped hotel. We arrived in Cape Town to a hideous hotel that was so disappointing we were completely deflated as it was our fist visit. We called the LAB and asked to go see the rooms available. On arrival Wayne, the manager welcomed us and showed us the lovely peaceful rooms which all open up onto the terrace or balcony overlooking the gardens and pool. What a relief! This hotel is a little slice of paradise, 10 minutes from central Cape Town or Camps Bay, open, clean, super high tech and so relaxing. Wayne and his partner Daniele could not have done more to make us feel welcome, the food is fantastic the staff absolutely lovely. It is currently undergoing more improvements but not in a disruptive way, just making it even more appealing. Highly recommend and cant wait to return.

Hi wn,

our stay was okay. Wayne was in our roon everyday fixing something because it didn't work. from coffee machine not working, blinds not going down to air conditioning not switching on. Finally not having to water on the last day.

We were understanding because we wanted a good weekend and just didn't want to mess up our time there.

when we mentioned the problems in the room they were happy to help but they should have been better prepared.

Checked in...and checked out after one night. We had very high hopes for this place after being recommended here because our favorite place (Parker Cottage) was fully booked.

The place was cutely decorated in the common rooms and wifi availability limited to these areas. A bar area allows for self service with a tattered "honesty" book to input what you take from it. The small club soda cans were expired and tasted of rusted metal. Who has expired soda cans? It takes them at least a couple years to reach this point. Another example that management/ owners are not involved in running this place.

The room we received was large. The bathroom window had old metal blinds that were bent and damaged and looked very tacky. Upon further inspection, there was a thick layer of dust and wine splatter stains in a few places. The bathroom door handle area was dingy and only needed a proper clean but it was apparent the cleaning staff couldn't be bothered or the management is not "detail-oriented" as this is an easy fix. The bathroom lacked proper amenities including shampoo and a bar of soap in the shower. After bringing this to the attendants attention they informed us that the conditioner bottle had a "2 in 1" that they had refilled themselves. The toilet (believe it or not) had one of those urinal cakes attached to the rim! It smelled of urine when we opened the lid to use. I was horrified and promptly removed it and tossed it away.

The main room/bedroom was ok. The decor was tired. The lamps were awkwardly big for the night table and left little room for anything extra to put in it. The coffee bar had one single serve sleeve of coffee and plenty of tea. Remote control was filthy and ignited me to disinfect it along with all switches for lamps and door handles.

The breakfast was average. Muffins were store bought and obviously not from scratch. Omelette was also very average. Only fillings were tomatoes, cheese and bacon. I only ate toast. Homemade croissants go a long way and are normally a standard at higher end B and B's we frequent.

Our mother in law had a leaky shower, NO soap for bathing and tattered stained towels.

I had my husband pack our bags and check us out at daybreak after our mediocre breakfast.

Management needs to vamp up their housekeeping amongst other things. This property has great potential but fails to meet the standard. It's' only quality is the view/location. Such a shame.

I rate this two stars because the lady upon check in was very friendly and very embarrassed we left after only one night.

Good morning Vimal We are 4 kilometers or 5 minutes from the centre of Hout bay,the beach and harbour. Taxis and public transport are readily available - should you be visiting for more than 2 or 3 days it may be better to hire a vehicle - possibly cheaper and more flexible. Best regards Derek
