We stayed at the Tarragon for three weeks in February this year. We've been there
several times before, each time we stay longer than the last and this time it was for three weeks. At the time of booking we were slightly anxious that we would be bored. We weren’t. In fact the extra time encouraged us to spend time on the property- more swimming, enjoying the lovely gardens, reading, we had scrabble but never got round to it - too competitive! Tarragon is serviced by a team of three ladies and two gardeners and a more helpful, hard working and nice group of people you could not wish to meet. Mark and Julia, who own the Tarragon provide excellent leadership and set the relaxed tone. One huge bonus is that the ladies will do laundry (for a small fee) which means that less luggage is needed.
There are five cottages ranging from 2x 1 bedsitting room, 2x two bedroom and one three bedroom. We always stay in the same one (lucky us) but we have toured all of them and I would be happy in any. They’re are all elegant, have modern kitchens, & barbecue and provide a setting for Mark and Julia’s excellent taste in wall art, prints and paintings. I really could take home several....
Shopping and food are at the very well stocked Spar five minutes drive away in Oakhurst. two restaurants are found five minutes drive away. Massimos is an excellent Pizza restaurant, lively, family orientated- nearly always fully booked, does take aways and the more upmarket Quentins, just behind is also very popular. Five minutes in a different direction is La Parada with good food, wine and beautiful views.
Shopping Malls are close by.
I don't know why I do this, one day I won’t be able to book, it will be so popular. All sorts of people stay at Tarragon from young families to us older people. Somehow it attracts very nice clientele. The cottages are spaced out, the gardens are large, it never feels crowded and the sparkling pool is large by S African standards. If you read this and book, I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do. Oh and most of the Western Cape sights are within an easy day trip n

The Tarragon is a tranquil oasis high in the hills above Hout Bay. It consists of just five self-catering units sleeping two, four or six adults. Each property has its own kitchen and private patio. The accommodation is spotless and each is provided with all mod cons (WiFi, digital TV & DVD player). The shared space consists of a spacious swimming pool with loungers, a large area for a braii and a fantastic view of the valley below.
Perhaps most importantly, the area is very secure with gated electric fencing and a 24 hr security presence.
We keep returning to the Tarragon because it is so tranquil, safe and relaxed. Than you, Mark, for your superb hospitality.

We chose to stay at The Tarragon for its ideal location to explore Capetown , Hout Bay and the rest of the Cape. It provided the perfect peaceful setting to unwind at the end of a days sight seeing by the pool which has wonderful views and is situated in a beautifully kept garden. The apartment had everything we needed with a welcoming bottle of sparkling wine in the fridge and fresh flowers on the table as a bonus. All in all a great place to stay which I cannot recommend highly enough.

We have just returned from 10 nights atThe Tarragon,we stayed in Saffron which had a large sunny private terrace and just a few steps down to the beautiful pool with stunning views. Mark was a great host, recommending restaurants to go to and was very helpful. You felt very safe there and it was a great location to get to all the wonderful restaurants in Constantia or down to the beach at Hout Bay. We will definitely be returning next time we are in South Africa.

My husband wanted us to stay in Hout Bay and to be honest I wasn’t so sure.

My view changed immediately we arrived at Tarragon. What an absolutely fantastic location, plus the most fantastic accomadation and grounds.

Our cottage ( but felt more like a detached Villa ) was beautiful. A very private outside area with sun beds and dining table. The interior was modern and stylish with everything you could possibly want. Comfortable beds and pillows ( some places are awful).
Lounge area with comfortable settee and DSTV with lots of channels. DVD player, CD and radio. Everything you could possibly need.
The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher.
A washing machine and drier is located in the laundry room and available to use.
The grounds are very well cared for with a fabulous pool. My favourite bit was the two giraffes by the pool.

The location is excellent and very safe and secure.
A supermarket is literally a 5 minute drive away and has everything you could possible need, including a good choice of ready meals from a local restaurant.

Don’t hesitate to book Tarragon. You won’t be disappointed . It really is a little bit of Heaven on Earth.

Mark and Julia are delightful and will help with any problems or advice you may need, as will the staff.

We had a fantastic stay at the Tarragon. We stayed in one of the smaller apartments but even that was extremely spacious and well equipped. The setting was beautiful and tranquil by the koi pond and the bed was very comfortable. Of all the places we stayed in our three week trip in South Africa the Tarragon was the best. We will definitely stay there again next time we visit Cape Town and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for high quality accommodation in a beautiful and safe area. Thank you Mark and Julia for a brilliant stay.

We stayed for 5 nights in December 2019 in the Angelica. It was our 6th stay in the past 10 years and it was as amazing as always. The Angelica is very large and very comfortable - three bedrooms with a massive terrace and amazing view. There was just 2 of us but we really appreciated the space but could definitely suit a (large) family. It has everything you need to eat in (we made several meals) and it's very quiet. It's also very safe and in a great location, very close to Constantia. The gardens are beautiful and the rooms are kept very clean. We have recommended The Tarragon to everyone we know and we will certainly be back again. Thanks Mark!

We recently spent a night at the Tarragon, and it exceeded all expectations. From the crystal blue pool overlooking the Hout Bay valley , to the beautifully furnished rooms and Koi pond - we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Every detail made you feel at home and relaxed. We stayed over Christmas and New Year, our 4th visit to The Tarragon. It is the perfect location for a Cape Town stay, close to beaches, an easy trip to the Waterfront, the Peninsula and the Winelands. The pool is a fabulous size and the gardens great for the children to run in. The accommodation is beautifully kept and the staff could not be more helpful.

I’ve been coming to Cape Town with my family and on ‘solo’ trips each year since 1999. Although I’ve also stayed at expensive hotels in Clifton and Camps Bay I still think of The Tarragon as my ‘home from home’. Here’s why:
(1) The cottages are spacious, nicely furnished, well equipped and represent outstanding value for money. I’ve stayed in all five over the years and my favourite is Jasmine which perfect for couples.
(2) The gardens and pool area are beautifully maintained and offer stunning views across the valley and towards the sea. It is both peaceful and cathartic to be surrounded by the sounds, smells and colours of nature.
(3) Hout Bay is a hidden gem. Totally authentic with a strong sense of community it has good shops/supermarkets and some great value restaurants as well a lovely beach. All just a few minutes in the car from The Tarragon
(4) The team working at The Tarragon are friendly and most welcoming. They do everything from cleaning the cottages to tending the gardens and always with smiles on their faces. Simply nothing is too much trouble. This extends to the owners, Mark & Julia who do everything to make one’s stay relaxing and care-free. As ‘locals’ after having lived in Cape Town for 20 years they are able to make fantastic recommendations for places to eat and things to do.
If you are looking for high quality, great value, secluded and secure self-catered accommodation within easy reach of everything Cape Town has to offer then look no further than The Tarragon.
