The Hout Bay Manor, built in 1871, is renowned as one of Cape Town’s most graceful landmarks. The recently restored Hout Bay Manor offers 16 individually designed en-suite rooms and a sophisticated EAT Restaurant, protected by century-old oak trees, was built from stone (600mm thick walls) and in traditional Cape Colonial style by Jacob Trautmann on an unspoiled piece of land, which had previously been part of the Kronendal Estate.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for 5 nights in early February. Beautiful hotel in a very tranquil setting. The staff are tremendous and nothing is too much trouble.
Food is excellent and the rooms are airy and light with a real touch of class.
Met the owner who was very hands on, helping clear tables at breakfast and making sure everyone was OK
There aren't many hotels in Hout Bay but this would be a gem if you picked it up and put it anywhere in the world

A most relaxing location, indoors or out, a beautiful building and very pleasant staff.
The whole layout is charming and some of the outdoor dining is around an open air swimming pool.
The lunch menu was not a wide choice, Asian dishes or burger types, my taste would have been for some more traditional offerings, though that said quality was good and well served.

Our 4 night getaway (which turned into 5 nights) in this magnificent grand dame was nothing short of fabulous. From the great variety of choices (with the taste to match) for breakfast, to the dinners, both in the restaurant and room service - a 10 out of 10!
The cleanliness, comfort and the great welcome from Zizi who checked us in at reception, to the super friendly and helpful waiters, Albert, Faith and Claire as well as the superb professionalism of Jennifer the General Manager - makes this as must return destination.
We really enjoyed our stay and the small touches like the complimentary refill of beverages in the bar fridge, the welcome sweeties and daily biscuits and the beauty and decor throughout the hotel and in the rooms themselves, makes this a boutique hotel like we have never experienced before.
If you have never considered this hotel before, it's time that you do!

My love and I, had the MOST brilliant time at Hout Bay Manor.
The staff were approachable, genteel & adroit. They met our every outlandish request and whim with earnest zeal and a smiling sense of humor.
The cocktails were delectable, and the panacota desert - needless to say, one of the most difficult dishes de get spot on - was absolutely flawless.
And the Sangoma room - what a marvel! Where do I even begin? A true seer in inanimate form; she is as beautiful as she is homely and psychedelic. Paying the extra amount for the honour to bathing in her majesty, is most indubitably worth it.
Gratitude Manor House, we'll be back, quilts and all, xxx

Having birthdays close together means that once a year we choose a quirky restaurant for a combined celebration. This year we chose a place in Hout Bay and decided to stay over. We could not have made a better choice than Hout Bay Manor. From the guards at the entrance to the front of house our welcome was heartfelt and the beautiful setting and beautifully appointed room added to the feeling that we were right at home. Breakfast the following day was excellent and the service staff have clearly been meticulously trained in hospitality. This must rank amongst our very favorite places to stay.

The service was outstanding the food very poor. The restaurant has a Thai menu as well as a European style menu. However we saw the staff bringing in my partners food from a takeaway and though I ordered the Thai Chicken salad I was given an ordinary salad. When I explained to the waitress that there was a mistake she said that they must have given me the wrong salad dressing!! I didn’t have the heart to show her the menu which clearly indicated a very different set of ingredients to those on my plate, It was clear I had been given the griddled chicken salad instead, but this shows that that staff do not know Thai food.
I would recommend they remove the Thai menu until they get a Thai food qualified chef again.

+1
We stayed here on Saturday night, 28 August 2021. We stayed in the Xhosa room. Small but comfortable and clean and has everything you might need in it including lovely underfloor heating, lush towels etc. Staff are super friendly at Reception as well as at the restaurant. Eat restaurant food: at 1st glance our thoughts were "this wont be enough" but we were wrong the food was enough, beautifully presented and the tastiest we have had in a loooong time (we had the ribs, pork belly Asian dish, chocolate fondant, Eton Mess). Fireplace in the dining area is lovely as it was really cold on Saturday night. Wi-fi available. Checking in and out was a really easy process. No fuss.

I’ve stayed at Houtbay Manor many times over the years, sometimes on my own and sometimes with my family and children. I’m always struck by the beauty of the building and interiors, especially the lounge and the rooms. The service is friendly and the food is very good. I’ll lost definitely return.

We popped in for a meal only. Sitting outside on a cool Friday evening listening to the live music was lovely. Unfortunately the food was only okay and the service was slow and not great. Would we eat here again - unlikely.

This hotel is located in beautiful hout bay which is accessible from either Chapman's Peak or the beautiful consantia Nek. It is centrally situated to Hout Bay Town and the World of Birds and the beach . Breakfast is very good but their continental is very limited . Rooms are very spacious and beds comfy. However an extra chair to sit and watch TV would be appreciated I layed on the bed and hubby took the chair . The restaurant has Asian food at a good price and very tasty . However this hotel fails with the service. Understaffed and not trained to the standard of a 5 star beautiful decor.
