Make sure you arrive before reception close.Otherwise security guard would be asleep instead of expecting for tou at the entrance.Location is really and convenient.Room was clean, just clean.Try to book a room at the reception level if you want to avoid deep stairs with heavy lugage.Capmans peak drive starts at the entrance of Flora bay resort.

The view is unbeatable. Sadly the service is lacking. No clean towels being replaced. No toilet paper replaced. Fan did not work. Tv did not work. Microwave blew up when we used it. To be fair, these things were fixed the next day. I honestly think that if the decor and service were upgraded, this would be a world class spot. At the moment, it is just average.

The view is amazing. Under tile heating and heated towel rail was lovely. Enjoyed the privacy of the honeymoon unit. Water pressure in the bathroom really good.
The bed was not comfortable -too hard. The bath was old and cracked and not inviting but it's fine if you just using it to stand in when showering. The couch was broken and very uncomfortable to sit on. Used the table chairs when watching tv. The fridge and toaster etc was badly positioned. The sliding balcony door was very difficult to open. The unit is not very modern but it was acceptable. The wifi is average and I had pretty average signal for most of my stay. Not much choice in tv channels but fortunately that's not why I came here. If you are traveling with children then this might be a problem. There is lots of potholes at the entrance to the section I stayed in and it's a blind spot to turn in from the road. A mirror might be a good idea to prevent any accidents. All in all the location is excellent and the view is amazing. Very close to some good eateries and a short drive to the harbor and market.

I recently made use of a Group On two night offer. The reality is that the resort has prime position, some revamping has taken place. Great potential, but the deposit policy, staff and managements approach really left much to be desired.

On arrival the owner ( i did not know it at the time drove past us, parked and exited his car without greeting us ), I greeted the receptionist by name as i had previously spoken to her on the phone - well sorry i mispronounced her name i was very quickly corrected but not greeted. Even when i pointed out a greeting would be "nice" i was ignored. we checked in and then we were exposed to the R350 damage deposit. The truth is that i was told telephonically of the deposit system, however, i did not know the detail. In summary you pay a deposit you check the inventory, they check after your departure ( not in your presence) against their own inventory and refund/deduct and pay you back with 5 working days. Nice they don't trust me but i must by way of their policy trust them.......interesting........

Well after an hour of running around trying to find various items ( we could not find them) we called for the in house inventory well the items we could not find were marked as missing on the in house inventory, so with the full knowledge of knowing that items were missing we were sent on a challenge to find the missing items. The receptionist was fully aware of my displeasure, but did not react in a customer centric manner. Eventually i asked to see the owner.

This deposit system really irritated me, i felt was back in Rhodesia in the 1960's which i told the owner who took exception to my assertion. The long and short of the matter he was understanding of some of my gripes but stood firm on his deposit and inventory policy. i told the owner i had not experienced this outdated approach in all my very extensive travels since the 1960, well i was told that "everybody does this" and in his 30 years of experience in the hotel trade this is the way its done.

i was also informed that i was fully aware of the policy etc as it was included in my booking form/confirmation well the truth is i never had a booking form and was only told about the deposit system telephonically but did not have the full detail.

Eventually a staff member was sent to complete the document with us and all was well.

Unfortunately i would never book there again

We were really disappointed by the accommodation. The website seems way nicer. The bathroom was terrible. Broken tiles etc. I took my inlaws with to help babysit - so embarrassed by the accommodation. Really needs a revamp!!!!

Decided to sneak away for my birthday with my husband and son for one night. Wanted to be close to the sea, but also close to nice restaurants and things to do. Flora Bay was the perfect combination.
Although it does not look like much from the outside, we were in awe when we opened our door and looked straight at the sea! The huge windows of the flat offered the most exquisite view of Hout Bay, so much so that my son decided he was going to sleep on the sleeper couch in the living area rather in the second bedroom. So inspired by the view, we made one small mistake - left the curtains open when we went for late lunch - and ended walking back into an oven as the afternoon sun took over our whole flat!

The decor and furniture looks like it is brand new and very tastefully done. I would however have liked to have had a fan in the room as it was very hot.

Lunch was at the HoutBay Slow food market - great variety of food and live entertainment. We actually got the most divine Cocunut Soup and cheesecake, which was our dinner back at the flat.
Went for a late afternoon drink at the hotel just around the corner - nice walk.
Sunday morning was started with a long walk on the beach - also just around the corner.

No problems with the breakage and key deposit. The units are very secure - with alarm etc - so I can understand that the remotes must be expensive if you need to replace. Got the deposit back within a week.

Will def be back!

Thank you Flora Bay Resort and Hout Bay. I really enjoyed the smell of fish on the air as I arrived in your lovely town; the nasty surprise when I checked in ("Yes, you have paid in full, but an extra R350.00 before we'll give you your key"); stubbing my foot as I climbed into bed (no bedside lights in the bedrooms: groping my way around in the dark is my favourite thing); the lovely trickle I had this morning (and groping again - this time around on the floor of the shower cubicle because you haven't bothered to provide a soap holder); waking at 4:00 a.m. to the dulcet roar of the fishing fleet on its merry way out to sea; and freezing my nuts off in your cold, clinically decorated appartment while I sat around waiting for my travelling companion to awake (with no mats on the faux wooden floors, almost bare white walls, and no heater in the room, it was properly bracing, lemme tell you!).

Nice view, though.

Response from houtbay2014, Manager at Flora Bay Resort
Responded 25 Jun 2014
From management side we would like to clarify that the gentleman who wrote this review was provided with the necessary information twice after his telephonic booking. I also forwarded this information to him again as proof after reception informed me about him throwing items around in the office out of anger and after I personally phoned him to address his concern. We've never experienced this type of behaviour before and have never had this specific complaint before. The R350-00 breakage fee is a fully refundable fee and gets refunded to our guests within 5 working days after departure into their bank accounts. This gentleman's was refunded to him in full as per the agreement and Indemnity form. Hout Bay is a world renowned fishing village and the smell of the sea therefor unfortunately cannot be controlled. We wish this gentleman peace, happiness and success for the future.

The beautiful view from the room is alone worth the visit. The ocean is literally on the doorstep! The Resort has very pleasant, private little beach. Restaurants, shops and beach are close-by, yet the area is quiet. A super place to explore Cape Town from.
The rooms are spacious with a pleasant set-up. Free wifi available. Just one little thing I missed: a heater would be nice on the cool winter days.

We had an overnight stay at Flora Bay Resort. It became very clear why they say "no parties allowed" because they definitely have problems in that sense. We came there on a Sunday afternoon, and the music, screaming and bad behaviour noise started at 10 PM lasting two hours, until I called the security. The location is great. The weather was perfect. For us, coming from another country problems came up when checking out. We were to leave for Cape Point early in the morning. The only way to get back the deposit fee they take from your credit card could only be returned to a South African bank account, giving all sorts of additional details (luckily we have local friends in Pretoria who may be able to help - not everyone has). For us from Finland this is an unnecessary cost which may or may not be compensated

i spent my weekend on one of their honeymooners room (even though we where just bunch of friends) the ocean view, the well equipped kitchen, load of storage place, big bathroom with shower, big bed room and two balcony, one balcony just above the ocean.

this is lovely place and is walking distance to town (ok groceries, pakalolo, spiros and many good restaurants and clubs) so we had to leave the car and walk down the town ..... on our arrival we greeted by friendly receptionist who didn't hesitate to tell us about the best attractions in hout bay and availability of room cleaning service

the cleaning service is best and good on their service, i will advice them to have wifi and to set tv channel clear as they are not clear...

The Resort location is not far from the Restaurants and general store area (+10 walk). The property is no Hilton, but was clean and tidy and suited our needs for the period we stayed there. We walked to the bar and restuarant at night after a day exploring. We made use of a car as public transport is not great outside the city area, but did use a Uber one night to take us home after a drunken night in the City Centre. The Flora Bay Resort is not close to the airport and our last night we stayed at a Protea Hotel Tyger Valley which was 20 min away from the airport. Hope this helps and you enjoy your stay.
