This place is a little gem, hidden in the woods of Mount Rhodes. Nice clean rooms, splendid view, close to Hout Bay beach and Llandudno beach. Friendly owner. Maybe the curtains could be a little thicker, so the sun does not wake you up very early.

This is certainly a weekend away anybody would love to experience. The location is amazing, in a really tranquil area only a short distance from restaurants, bars and shopping centers.
Absolutely stunning view from the all around house. I fully recommend you spend each day in the pool with cocktails, admiring this once in a lifetime view.
Enjoy your stay, because unfortunately, it will be over before you even know it xo

Beautiful and clean. The views are unbelievable and the pool makes for a nice and clean dip after a hot day of activities. The house is perfect for friendly dinners and hosting events. I could not recommend this place more.

We stayed here in February 2010 for two nights immediately upon arriving in Cape Town.
On our second night we were woken in our beds by two robbers armed with knives. We were not harmed but terrified. They stole our wallets, camera and some other belongings. Although we had accidentally forgotten to lock the patio door the robbers had managed to get through the perimeter supposedly manned by ADT, cut a hole in the fence under the electrified part (no wall around the property despite it looking secure on the face of it), and then get to our unlocked door. The proprietor had switched off the security alarm due to high winds. We were therefore defenceless. We learned that a robbery had occurred before due to there being no perimeter fence at that time. Despite the property being beautiful and in a great location scenery wise, nothing can overcome lack of security in this type of area where poverty drives crime. Our experience was made worse by the attitude of the proprietor who seemed unsympathetic to our situation and tending to the concerns of the other guests (who luckily had not been robbed as the alarm was raised by our neighbours in time having heard our screams and witness a third robber ransacking our belongings on the patio outside their room) over us. We understand that the proprietor complained to others that we had "over-reacted" to the robbery although other guests witnessed the robbers outside their room! The police were eventually called and came to take our statements. They were all offered refreshments. We had to wait until 7 am for our offer of a coffee (having been up since 1.30 am dealing with the robbery/aftermath). We had the distinct impression that the proprietor thought we were making the whole thing up (!?) or that the entire experience was our fault. At no point was security underlined to us (although obviously we knew were were in South Africa where crime rate is high) you are on holiday and just off a long flight you are not fully alert even though we thought we were being. We were then expected to pay in full for our night's "stay" which we, of course, refused to do. The proprietor wanted to follow us to the bank where we were picking up the limited money we had on our Travelex card which was being wired to us. It was a struggle to get to use the telephone/internet - we were made to feel uncomfortable using these facilities although our phones and wallets had been taken and our only access to communication was via this place. The proprietor needs to get a wall built and have alarms on at all times, whatever the weather, as this place is clearly a destination for robbers. It has now been robbed twice to our knowledge - there may be other instances for all we know. I would not recommend anyone to stay here unless you are assured an uninterrupted night's sleep! Security improvements are a MUST.

Response from Platinum999, Public Relations Manager at The Platinum Boutique Hotel
Responded 27 Mar 2014
Dear Lewisgirl, I regret that you had to endure a robbery, and event which is certain to ruin anyone’s vacation. I have been in the same situation, so I know how you feel. Unlike past management, which did not reply to any TripAdvisor reviews, I will will follow up all open reviews - even if they are from the past. In your incident, I have interviewed the different employees and the owner of the guesthouse. I would like to take this opportunity to express my regrets for your unpleasant experience. At the same time I would like to correct some inaccuracies and misconceptions in your review: You state “the perimeter is supposedly manned by ADT”, but this is incorrect. ADT controls access to the community of Mount Rhodes and responds with armed guards in case of an alarm on a property. Contrary to your review, the guesthouse has always been surrounded by a fence. The fence towards the front of the property (road side) has always been an electrified fence. The fence to the other three sides, which are all facing neighboring lots, are conventional wire mesh fences with barbed wire. Contrary to your statement, the perpetrators did not dig underneath the electrified fence. This is not possible, as the fence is mounted on a brick wall. Correct is, that the perpetrators first broke into a neighboring property, traversed that property and then cut a hole into the fence separating that property from the guest house. By cutting a hole into this fence they were able to get access to the guesthouse grounds. This guesthouse has the most modern security system you can buy. The system includes a state of the art alarm system by a Canadian company (review rules don’t allow us to name the company), motion detectors on various parts of the property, flood lights and an electrified fence on top of the gate and the wall facing the public road. If an alarm is triggered, an armed security service responds automatically for an inspection or assistance. Unfortunately, an alarm is only effective when it is armed, or “On”. In a guest house, the alarm needs to be turned “Off” with every guest entering or leaving the property. Every guest receives a remote transmitter for this purpose. It is the responsibility of the guest who turned the alarm “Off” to turn the alarm “On” again. Your unfortunate incident took place in the middle of the night. As you stated, the owner of the guest house was asleep. Our alarm system turns on automatically at a certain time (which I will not post here for obvious reasons). Contrary to your statement, the owner did not turn the alarm off. The alarm was deactivated by guests entering the property late at night. Unfortunately, they failed to turn the alarm “On” again. I was honestly surprised about something you brought up in your review. I quote: “although obviously we knew were were in South Africa where crime rate is high”. In spite of your knowledge, you decided to leave your sliding doors wide open. This was a conscious decision you made. An alarm should have scared off an intruder, but an alarm does not “defend” you. You were not as you called it “defenceless”, due to the owner of the guest house, but because you left the doors unlocked and wide open. A locked door would have prevented an entry into your unit. For what it is worth, I would not leave my doors open in Edinburgh, Glasgow, New York, Amsterdam and certainly not in South Africa. This is really a common sense issue - especially if you know the crime rate is high. After reviewing the the incident with the owner, I don’t believe that the owner was unsympathetic to your situation or felt that you over-reacted. Statements like the proprietor was “tending to the concerns of the other guests”…”over our concerns” , “The police… were all offered refreshments. We had to wait until 7 am for our offer of a coffee” and “We had the distinct impression that the proprietor thought we were making the whole thing up (!?)” sound like very emotional responses, written in the aftermath of a traumatic event. They do not sound like rational statements regarding events which took place. Correct is that the owner was woken from her sleep and shocked by the event like you were. She confirmed to me, that she offered coffee to everyone present - including you. After the police left everyone went back to bed. If you had a desire for more coffee than there was no need to wait until 7:00am, as there are tea and Nespresso® coffee makers in every unit. The above is in the past. We sincerely hope the memories of the unpleasant incident have since faded away. Your platinum guesthouse team

We stayed in march for 4 nights and booked the apartment, which is on the parking level and therefore a little bit dark.
Service was OK, but no honesty bar in the room and no welcome drinks.
The pool is in the shade after 3 p.m. and only one sun umbrella is available.
