A small boutique hotel, with exceptional service, Leeu house is located in the heart of Franschhoek, just a short walk away from some world class restaurants where we had outstanding meals.
The staff at Leeu house go above and beyond to provide exceptional service and little touches like fresh flowers and complimentary wine and hand made snacks in the room were very much appreciated. There are just a few rooms and a nice sized pool and garden for relaxing in after a day of wine tasting.
The breakfast was included and was outstanding with the best croissants and pastries outside of Paris. Their freshly squeezed juices were delicious and they had a wide choice of cooked options from waffles served with berries, to avo toast to eggs Benedict.
There is a complimentary transfer to their sister property Leeu Estates, which in my opinion is an even more wonderful place to stay if you want a little more space and endless views of the surrounding valley. As a guest of Leeu House there is a complimentary wine tasting at the Mullineux & Leeu Wine Studio which was great. Of the 6 wines we tried, my favourites were their Mullieneux Old vines white as well as their award winning Leeu Passant Chardonnay, which had a depth and character that was remarkable.
As guest of Leeu house you can make use of both properties and the gym and spa are both located at the Estates. Leeu House has free bikes for guests to use, so we rode bikes between the two properties passing by many beautiful vineyards (such as Mont Rochelle owned by Richard Branson).

This is the perfect location to stay while in Franschhoek. Situated on the main road it’s within 10-15 minutes walk to pretty much everything located in the town itself.
The grounds, rooms and artwork are stunning and are immaculately presented. Breakfast was excellent, it was lovely to sit outside in the garden area to enjoy.
Staff were very efficient at booking restaurants and the complimentary shuttle service was an added bonus plus the drivers were very personable.
The only thing that could be slightly improved upon is that the staff other than the drivers weren’t as personable as they could have been and a more informal atmosphere would be beneficial.

Leeu House is situated towards the top end of Hugenout road in Franschhoek. It is a beautifully maintained guest house with wonderful staff. It offers both privacy and quiet while being situated on the main road of Franschhoek where many restaurants, bars and shops are. It is a short bike ride or drive away from Leeu Estate, where you have access to the gym, pool, etc (note there is also a pool at Leeu House). There is a shuttle car service available at short notice and the drivers were great. The staff were fantastic and were able to help us with some meal reservations, as we had not properly prepared! Would absolutely stay here again if we revisit the area.

Leeu House is an exceptional small hotel in a perfect location for a stay in Franschhoek & the Winelands. The hotel is beautifully appointed including a lovely garden with pool, and is managed by friendly and efficient management. Our room was very comfortable and the complimentary wine and gifts most welcome. Breakfast for a small hotel was particularly good and offered a wide & varied choice. Secure parking of our hire care (including last day cleaning) was very helpful. Overall a high quality hotel offering a first class stay. There was nothing not to like.

On the positive side, the hotel impresses with meticulous maintenance, quirky art, and exceptional gardens and pool areas. The service is strong, with attentive staff anticipating our needs, offering surprises like personalized cocktails, and proactively handling dinner reservations.
However, our experience was marred by Room #6, located between the pool restroom and breakfast/outdoor bar space. Lacking unshaded windows and with tub windows bordering a public area, the room compromised privacy. Despite complaints, the issue persisted, leading to an offer to move us to another property. Opting to keep our short stay uninterrupted, we stayed put.
In summary, Leeu House is a great hotel, but Room #6 detracts from the experience. Potential guests should request or condition their booking to avoid this room. Upgrading to a higher room category is advisable. Despite the setback, I hope to return in the future.

This boutique-style hotel is ideally located on Huguenot Road in Franschhoek, within walking distance to many great restaurants, art galleries and boutiques. We had a lovely and spacious deluxe room with a very comfortable bed and a patio. The air conditioning worked well and was rather silent. The hotel has a nice pool area and is beautifully decorated with South African art. Breakfast and lunch (only available for hotel guests) were also quite good. Spa and gym facilities are located at the sister property, Leeu Estates (a complimentary shuttle service is available). The staff was very warm and friendly. We will definitely return to Leeu House during our next stay in Franschhoek.

Of the 7 places we stayed in while visiting SA, Leeu House was our favorite. We stepped into the lobby and they seated us in front of the fire with a glass of champagne. They took our keys and retrieved our bags and placed them in our room. Every detail mattered to the staff and we felt so cared for. Their turndown service was the best, and the underfloor heating in the bathroom is so perfect for cold rainy days. The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable, and we had everything we needed. The hotel itself is situated in a very walkable area in Franschhoek and we felt safe walking to grab a drink. When we had plans for dinner on the estate they provided a private driver for a reasonable amount that was billed directly to our room. We enjoyed Epice, and La Petit Colombe, (both part of the property) both were beautiful dinners.

We had a great experience at Leeu House, which is very conveniently located in Franschhoek next to many good restaurants and bars. We stayed for 2 nights in a large, well-equipped room with all the amenities you'd expect from a small boutique hotel at this level. There's a pool with comfortable loungers (they provide the sun cream) , and a restaurant area where breakfast is served. I found the hot breakfast menu offered to be perfectly fine, offering a nice choice of options.
They offer a limited menu for dinner in the restaurant, but there are so many wonderful restaurants in and around Franschhoek that it was not an issue at all.
We wanted to try out the wine tram while in Franschhoek, which is well worth doing. The tram ticket office is just a few minutes' walk away from the hotel, and a free shuttle bus takes you from the ticket office to the tram if you don't want to drive (why would you?).
I would certainly stay at Leeu House again. The staff were just lovely and so helpful when my other half was ill for a day and confined to quarters. Nothing was too much trouble for them. If you're reading this, thank you all.

This was our first visit to Franschhoek and sadly not quite long enough at only 2 nights. Leeu House is first class. If you like small and beautiful then this will suit you. Only 12? rooms finished to a high standard with an excellent bathroom. Staff very friendly and eager to help and please. We couldn’t fault it based on our experience. Excellent location on the main street so very well located for an afternoon/evening stroll and transport service available for nearby visit to restaurants etc.

Hi Peter,
There are no public transport options for you to get from the city to Franschhoek, unless you catch the City Sightseeing hop on hop off bus that starts in the city and goes there via Bloubergstrand, and then just not return to the city, but it's expensive and unlikely that their one departure per day will coincide with your time of disembarking.
Your best option, if you don't want to hire a car, is to use Uber. It's the most cost effective and doesn't have to be booked in advance. If you do want to book in advance you can use any of the regular shuttle companies like City Shuttles (0827071135), Centurion (021 934 8281) or Sport24HRS (021 447 4444). They will all quote you a fixed price for the drive to Franschhoek. They will also pick you up again for your return trip to the airport.
Enjoy your stay in my beautiful country.
Good morning, yes indeed we do.
Kind regards,
Caroline Johnson

Dear 510330,
Leeu House unfortunately does not have a gym, however our sister property found next door, Le Quartier Francais, has a small gym on the property. Our flagship property, Leeu Estates, offers a large fully equipped gym with complementary transfers from Leeu House.
I can't imagine a more helpful hotel, so contact them direct.
