Attended my Sisters wedding at Boschendal and stayed in one of the cottages onsite. The cottage itself was great with everything you need, cooking utensils, fridge, tea, coffee, amazing bathroom and a comfy bed. Also a lovely patio area at the back and a pool area in front. The only negative was that the wedding photographer took a couple of pictures down which revealed a large damp patch, Boschendal Staff, Cottage 5 pictures by bed! This did not detract at all from the great time we all had as a family celebrating the wedding! The Estate itself is wonderful, lots to see and do, great atmosphere, amazing food, lovely places to eat and drink and oh my god the wine is good! Blanc de Noir in particular, I sacrificed clothes to fit a few extra bottles in my suitcase! The staff were amazing, helpful and friendly, thank you all! This is the perfect spot for a long lazy weekend and I definitely plan on returning one day!…
Such a strange experience. After 5 days in Cape Town where we were blown away by the dining experiences and before we went on to safari we scheduled two days in Stellenbosch. Sadly we were disappointed. After a rather weak arrival process we drove ourselves out to our villa. The villa was basic. The simple touches were non existent in the villa, no pool towels, no bathroom small amenities eg cotton wool or ear buds. The pool was cold. Our villa was opposite the staff room which meant we had no privacy. We opened our bedroom curtains and the staff were there and if not there they walked constantly and directly in front of the villa. Our breakfast was back in the main the building complex which meant you had to drive. This was slightly disappointing. There should have been bikes provided. Then we booked dinner in their signature restaurant and it was like a posh Beef Eater (UK fast food bar restaurant). The Werf served terrible cocktails, no winery and bearing in mind we are in a wine yard this was beyond disappointing and the menu was terrible. We had actually sat at breakfast and watched chefs come out and pick fresh herbs and we were so excited for our evening or fresh cuisine and sadly after dinner we have no idea why we came to this establishment. Happy to be leaving tomorrow.…
Boschendal walks the line of functional farm and accessible luxury travel destination rather well. ------ Boschendal, at least, takes no chances with its guests safety, firstly - from the guarded entry points to the farm, to the airy communal spaces, hand sanitisers abound, reduced capacities within restaurants, and their regularly cleaned surfaces. -------- Blessed conveniences (in the way of amenities) are the kinds of things that make a difference in a stay, and made mine relaxing. The cottage having: >a clean fireplace and all its fixings ready >not to mention the bedrooms large bed coming with an electric blanket >and the bathroom having heated floors and towel rails, was outstanding thoughtfulness for guests who don’t favour nighttime chills. ------
Had a two night stay here and after the first breakfast was extremely ill. Staff were not helpful at the accommodation and were rude and unpleasant to deal with. The location is very remote and I didn’t feel safe leaving the complex on my own. I wouldn’t recommend staying here due to my bad experience.
This is our 2nd time staying and I am unsure whether we will be back. We stayed in an Orchard 2 bed with kids. The real problem is it’s a 5-7 minute car drive in and out to the main estate; this gets tedious. The pool around the Orchard rooms is very poor; not a kid friendly pool and seating is old and tatty. This needs an upgrade. The breakfast, whilst slow is excellent as is the Werf restaurant. The kids club is good though I feel it should be complimentary to guests (you only get 1 free session). The Friday night market was great and picnic was good (though the food choices weren’t as good as previous picnics) If they had more 2 bed places on site and a proper pool this place could really thrive. We were meant to move to Bertha accommodation but honestly it’s very remote and had a youth hostel feel. Time for Boschendal to decide if it wants to really do accommodation properly or not?!…
