Travellers' Choice
L'Auberge Chanteclair nestles in the Franschhoek valley with panoramic views of the vineyards, mountains and valley. The Victorian farmhouse, with it's lofty ceilings and light and airy rooms set in wonderful landscaped gardens amongst spreading Oak and Jacaranda trees, has a very special ambiance. All our rooms are en-suite, with bar fridges, tea and coffee making facilities, some with fireplaces and others with their own private patio.

Really fantastic place to stay. Nice garden and pool area. Loved the porch with montain view. Here we had some nice talks over good wine with other guests. Nice room and fantastic breakfast. We got nice recommendations on vineyards from Allan . So service minded. Can really recommend a stay here.

We enjoyed every second of our stay. A warm welcome, very comfy rooms, a beautiful location where you can see that every detail is looked after. Hosts (Yvonne and Allan) and staff are helping in any possible way, you can always ask for proposals for dinner, wine tasting etc and you will get an answer that fits your individual preferences. Breakfast is more than superb, also with daily changing individual sides. Yummy And sitting on the porch in the afternoon, enjoying a Chenin Blanc of the houses vineyards brings your soul to life. We can strongly recommend to stay and we’re sorry that our stay could not be longer.

Chanteclair is in a beautiful location within easy reach of Franschhoek town and all that is on offer locally. All of the staff go out of their way to make your stay special. The breakfasts are very varied and extremely tasty. The rooms are always spotlessly clean with regular changes of linen and fresh flowers. Allan and Yvonne have worked tirelessly to repair damage from last years floods and even managed to further improve an already amazing garden. The property now generates its own power via PVs so no troublesome load shedding. As proof of how wonderful this property is it often full of repeat guests, ourselves included. Well done to a great team.

Beautiful location close to the center of Franschhoek but still completely quiet and relaxing. The best hosts one can imagine. Breakfast made with love and best ingredients. The most knowledgeable hosts who help in every sort of question and wish. Strongly recommended to stay here again and again😊

Three days of enjoying the views, great location, delicious wine with fabulous warm hospitality, and the BEST breakfast. We stayed in Vine Cottage and loved the layout, decor, and careful thought of the interior. Each day we enjoyed the pool and its recharge qualities which also helped us prepare each day for (more) wine tasting and/or exploring - it was tough! Alan and Yvonne were excellent hosts and sources of local knowledge.

We've travelled to many places in the world. L'Auberge Chanteclair was the very best experiece we've had. It is unheard of how we were greeted upon arrival by the hosts Yvonne and Allan McMaster. Chanteclair has been upgraded tremendously by our hosts in the past couple of years. To mention one only: Chanteclair has had 4 big solar panels, a huge battery and a totally insulated generator installed. This makes them independent from Eskom. Every morning the breakfast was varied. The service and friendliness of the management and all the staff were magnificent. The rooms were perfect in every aspect. Hence, THE LITTLE PARADISE.

one of the best B&B we have been visiting in South Africa - generous rooms with all amenities, tasteful and very generous breakfast - but over all - charming and most attentive hosts. thank you - we come back next year! I hardly give a TOP TOP rating - but this one you deserve it:

Beautiful location and L'Auberge . The room was warm and welcoming with a real fire and excellent wine. Allan and Yvonne were the perfect hosts , especially when there was a bad storm in the middle of the night which meant we had to be moved to the neighboring property the following morning. We were all well looked after and meals were provided due to the town being flooded and everything was closed.

We booked a room at Chanteclair to visit the area vineyards. Our first night there, the heavy rains caused flooding on the property that unfortunately breached the guest rooms and rendered them uninhabitable. It was a very challenging situation but Allan and Yvonne handled it so wonderfully. They invited us their on site cottage, which didn’t have flood damage, and offered us coffee and snacks while they sorted out the situation. They made arrangements for all their guests to stay at La Providence, another very lovely property nearby that was safe from the flood. Then they loaded up everyone’s luggage and drove us there in the rain. The roads were impassable and restaurants were closed, so they and the La Providence hosts cobbled together some ingredients and made dinner for all the guests. Even while working to cancel future bookings and assess the damage to their property, they were consistently checking on us to make sure we were ok. They even came over for breakfast every morning at La Providence to check in with everyone and make sure we were ok. Their unflappable professionalism and optimism were truly impressive! They are just the kindest, most generous people! What could have been a terrible stressful situation turned into a quite lovely time, gathering together with the other guests for dinner and wine and conversation. Chanteclair may be closed for a while for renovations. It’s truly a shame because the property was gorgeous and immaculately cared for, yet now many of the rooms are ruined. I wish them a speedy recovery. When they open back up, go stay there! You will definitely be well cared for, and you will enjoy serenely beautiful surroundings at the coziest place! Ana who knows, you might make some new friends like we did!

It was a bit disappointing to have such cold weather with rain which did affect our enjoyment of the property. Having chosen the Studio, we were totally unable to enjoy the outside areas because of the weather and the studio itself was very cold, particularly the bathroom with no heating at all. There was an issue with the open fire causing too much smoke to feel comfortable to sleep with it still alight so we went out every evening and never lit it, relying on gas fire, which was not ideal. We must add that the management and staff were very friendly and helpful and they served an excellent and beautifully presented breakfast every day. Add proper heating or stay in the summer months and it would be ideal. The bed and linens were also super comfy. Also with good weather the location would be fine for walking to and from the village but not really in dark rainy weather.
