L'Auberge Chanteclair nestles in the Franschhoek valley with panoramic views of the vineyards, mountains and valley. The Victorian farmhouse, with it's lofty ceilings and light and airy rooms set in wonderful landscaped gardens amongst spreading Oak and Jacaranda trees, has a very special ambiance. All our rooms are en-suite, with bar fridges, tea and coffee making facilities, some with fireplaces and others with their own private patio.

Detailed Reviews
We loved our stay at L'Auberge Chanteclair. Firstly the room was gorgeous, roomy with a lovely comfortable bed. While the bathroom was on the small side, it worked! We stayed in the Syringa room ( private patio) with doors that opened to a view of the pool. They offered a glass of welcome wine the first evening and have wine at the hotel to purchase if you are interested. It is supposed to be very good. We had done wineries already so we had wine with us. The breakfast was very superb. Out of 25 breakfasts theirs was in the top 5 and 3 of those 5 were had at Chanteclair. The attention to details did not go unnoticed by us. My husband was even noting the flowers lovingly placed in the napkins which were folded differently each day and the fresh flowers on the table. The kitchen staff did a fantastic job on the breakfasts. A lovely buffet of fresh fruit, granola, yogurt and meats and cheeses was offered. Then hot breakfasts including smoked salmon eggs, and bacon/sausages and eggs. One morning to start the staff brought us a fresh soft granola shell fruit tart filled with a yogurt and berries. The jams are homemade. Very delicious. Each dish was lovely to look at. We would book this hotel again just for the care and love they put into their breakfast. Thank you to the hosts Allan and Yvonne. Your passion and attention to the property ( the flowers and grounds are splendid) , the food, rooms, and the attention you gave all your customers is to be commended. I cannot imagine anyone walking away from this property not feeling like they were spoiled. We will happily go back and would definitely recommend this hotel.
This is a great location. Probably a 10 minute walk from town, or a 3 minute car ride. Franchoek has many lovely restaurants and wineries. We went to Noop in Paarl for lunch. ( Excellent. go if you get a chance. My husbands favourite lunch ever) we also ate at Babylonstoren. Very good.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 4 day stay at Chanteclair from the quiet location with beautiful views, the spacious, comfortable and elegant bedroom 'Syringa' with its beautiful porch and views of the gardens, the fabulous breakfasts and wonderful staff and our hosts, Allan and Yvonne. They were all very welcoming and Allan's knowledge of the area and helpful suggestions were spot on. We had a last minute cancellation of our trip on the Blue Train and Allan suggested Lekkerwater in a game reserve on the South Coast, which was also superb and a place we would not have found on our own.
It was a pleasure to meet our fellow guests who were all of the same mind, I think, enjoying the superb hospitality, wonderful weather and ambiance of this beautiful B&B. Chanteclair has two cottages with a self catering option plus 5 bedrooms all decorated beautifully by Yvonne; the swimming pool was lovely and the grounds included a vineyard to explore and a veggie garden. Also the plans for landscaping in an area of the garden will be worth watching and coming back to see in a couple of years time!
Franschhoek is a lovely village surrounded by beautiful vineyards, countryside and mountains and enjoys a lovely climate. The village has some amazingly good restaurants, cafes and bars and seems to be popular with locals and tourists all year through. Smaller than Stellenbosch, it has a welcoming atmosphere and we would definitely recommend it as a destination for holidays.
I am not sure when we will be back but it's on the list!

Lovely little 3 night stay in the wine region to kick off the first week of the new year. About a 5 min walk to the main strip of the town and a 15min walk to the wine tram, this quaint little french style hotel sits in absolutely stunning grounds with beautiful backdrops of the mountains and a fantastic pool making any spot within it the perfect place to relax, read a book, have a glass of wine or simply just get lost in the scenery. Roaring open fires for the chillier evenings too, providing additional warmth, relaxation and ambience. Security in and around the property was always present.
Rooms are all clean and spacious and come equipped with necessities like bottled water, wine (because it would be rude not to in the wine regions), a tv and a fridge and showers are powerful and hot. Beautiful French wooden shutters adorn every window to frame a perfect view out of every window.
Alan and his fairy godmothers make an exceptional team! Highly recommend requesting a braii one evening… we gave Alan a brief of what we wanted and boy did they not disappoint! An exceptional team, they put on the banquet of a lifetime! Fillet steak cooked to perfection, borewoers (beef SA sausage), chicken wings, garlic bread, homemade coleslaw, salads and roast potatoes… and not to mention the special pavlova! We ate like kings and queens! Breakfasts were also delicious and served outside every morning against the backdrop of the mountain… absolutely stunning. Thanks for an exceptional braai and fabulous stay!

We have just spent three nights in this beautiful old farmhouse which has been renovated to the highest standard. We stayed in the Syringa room with its own verandah and only a few steps to the crystal clear pool. Spacious and with underfloor heating.
Breakfast was sumptuous, taken outside in the morning sun, or, on one chilly morning, before a roaring fire. And what a breakfast, served by the most efficient and charming staff who tended to all our needs. Vegetables and fruit taken straight from the garden every morning.
We were delighted to be offered the Autumn Special Rate and I cannot say enough to encourage visitors to South Africa and to the Western Cape, to stay in this lovely accommodation. Mine hosts, Alan and Yvonne, went out of their way to make our stay so comfortable and to point out to us local amenities and places to visit.

A truly beautiful place. Incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Allan and Yvonne were fantastic hosts with a wealth of knowledge to share - not just of the Franschhoek area but way beyond too. Our room (Syringa) was spacious and beautifully decorated with a private verandah with access to the pool area. The property is set in 10 hectares of land, 5 of which are dedicated to growing vines.
Breakfasts were delicious and filling. Scrambled eggs and smoked trout particularly tasty. It’s an easy 15/20 min walk into the centre of town but if you don’t fancy walking there are taxis and Ubers - the latter significantly cheaper. I would not hesitate to recommend L’auberge Chantclair - absolutely stunning! Wish we could have stayed longer.

Chanteclair is in a beautiful location within easy reach of Franschhoek town and all that is on offer locally. All of the staff go out of their way to make your stay special. The breakfasts are very varied and extremely tasty. The rooms are always spotlessly clean with regular changes of linen and fresh flowers. Allan and Yvonne have worked tirelessly to repair damage from last years floods and even managed to further improve an already amazing garden. The property now generates its own power via PVs so no troublesome load shedding. As proof of how wonderful this property is it often full of repeat guests, ourselves included. Well done to a great team.

Great service, the very best breakfast and a fabulous setting.
The breakfast was freshly cooked and fresh fruit available every morning.
The setting is perfect, a short drive from the town centre, and in amongst the vines and mountains of this picturesque valley.
Allen and Yvonne and team can not do enough to make you feel welcome.

We spent a fantastic time in this beutiful place in the vineyards of Franshhoek. We were welcomed upon arrival by our wonderful hosts Roger and Josephine. From the first moment we felt comfortable. The house has a very British touch, rooms very elegant with a veranda overlooking the landscape. An excellent place to sit in the evenings enjoying a lovely glass of wine from the very own vineyards - reminded me to be in a setting of the film "Out of Africa"! Very nice pool in a park surrounded by flowers, vineyards and orchards.
Breakfast excellent, full English Breakfast or Continental, just as you like it. Excellent very friendly staff. Very secure place with a guard on duty all night.
A British oasis in the south of Africa!

The hosts were wonderful - they really go the extra mile to make their guests' stay special! I was nicely surprised upon arrival with an unexpected upgrade to a bigger room with beautiful views of the mountains. A complimentary glass of wine is served every evening to be enjoyed while watching the sunset. The breakfast was absolutely delicious, with their own honey, jam etc and freshly squeezed juice and flowers from the garden. The location is perfect - only 1.5km from all the restaurants in the main street, but far enough for total peace and quiet. The mountain views to all sides are breathtaking. But I especially loved the passion, friendliness and attention to detail of the hosts, the staff serving breakfast and the security guards! I will definitely be back, as L'Auberge Chanteclair exceeded my expectations!

We booked a room at Chanteclair to visit the area vineyards. Our first night there, the heavy rains caused flooding on the property that unfortunately breached the guest rooms and rendered them uninhabitable. It was a very challenging situation but Allan and Yvonne handled it so wonderfully. They invited us their on site cottage, which didn’t have flood damage, and offered us coffee and snacks while they sorted out the situation. They made arrangements for all their guests to stay at La Providence, another very lovely property nearby that was safe from the flood. Then they loaded up everyone’s luggage and drove us there in the rain. The roads were impassable and restaurants were closed, so they and the La Providence hosts cobbled together some ingredients and made dinner for all the guests. Even while working to cancel future bookings and assess the damage to their property, they were consistently checking on us to make sure we were ok. They even came over for breakfast every morning at La Providence to check in with everyone and make sure we were ok. Their unflappable professionalism and optimism were truly impressive! They are just the kindest, most generous people! What could have been a terrible stressful situation turned into a quite lovely time, gathering together with the other guests for dinner and wine and conversation.
Chanteclair may be closed for a while for renovations. It’s truly a shame because the property was gorgeous and immaculately cared for, yet now many of the rooms are ruined. I wish them a speedy recovery. When they open back up, go stay there! You will definitely be well cared for, and you will enjoy serenely beautiful surroundings at the coziest place! Ana who knows, you might make some new friends like we did!
