We booked at Waterfall Cottage as it was a gift voucher. It was beautifully situated next to a private waterfall and rockpool. However, the gas didn't work and when we reported it, were told "is it connected" - should not have to do that. No dishtowels provided - they were the following day. There are reading lamps in the bedroom which don't work, there are side table lamps in the bedroom which don't work. The shower curtain is hanging on about 3 hooks. If you are nearly 75 its very difficult to get into this slipper bath to shower. Staff sort of disinterested and we were not made to feel welcome at all.

Spent a wonderful 2 days here with a panoramic view of the Franschhoek valley and wildlife.
We made use of the superb facilities in the Panorama Suite to self cater and watched the zebra (and foals), ostriches and springbok feeding outside our window.
On the second day we went on the tour of the estate to see more of the vineyards and the ‘game’ and were surprised and delighted to be able to taste the wines produced in the Chamonix vineyard at each viewpoint on the tour.
Dowyne the driver and guide was informative, amusing and very friendly throughout.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is freshly cooked on request each morning.
A wonderful getaway.

The Marco Polo Lodge on Chamonix Wine Estate offers magnificent views over the Franschhoek valley from its elevated position high up the property. Our Panorama Suite lived up to its name. It was very spacious, well appointed with great views including its own private balcony. Truly 5 star.

Ongoing to the honesty bar for a sundowner we found gin but no tonic. We phone management and the duty manager arrived 10 minutes later with the tonic.

Breakfast was mediocre. The orange juice was not fresh and the filter coffee was poor. (We were not offered expresso.)

The management needs some attention to detail. It's a pity that a 5 star venue is devalued by easily corrected deficiencies.
On booking the Panorama Suite, the details supplied to me said the 2 bottles of wine were included and that meals were available on request. When I queried that with management prior to my visit I was told that this information was over 2 years out of date!

Marco Polo Lodge. We had this accommodation booked on our behalf by my husbands business partners in South Africa. We arrived early in the morning and my husband was made to feel unwelcome and was greeted by ‘I haven’t had enough coffees to deal with this.’ The only staff we saw were a couple of men making Breakfast which we didn’t have. There is no aircon in the room just a fan. It was windy the first evening and all the windows rattled around us. My husband asked if we could get a cup of tea at 10.10 am and he was addressed by the nod of a head towards a water dispenser and a row of cups together with a glance at his watch to suggest Breakfast hours were 8-10am only. There are no tea or coffee facilities in the room to have avoided our inconvenience of asking. The house has a beautiful view probably one of the best. There is minimal customer service and thankfully we were only there two nights. There is no other meals provided at the main lodge. Small fridge with a few drinks and a honesty box to pay for what you have. Its such a shame a beautiful position is spoiled by lack of customer service. Finally it is a long way from the town if you have no transport. We booked a days winery tasting with a lady called Bev who’s number is on the laminate bedside essential contacts list. She was brilliant booked a lovely meal for us at La Lude as part of our day. This place could be a great place but needs some management.

Franschhoek in the Cape offers a huge variety of different types of accommodation to chose from - However if you want the ultimate experience in First Class then you must stay at the Chamonix wine estate.
Why? well how about a beautiful wine estate with excellent wine and gourmet restaurant, various types of accommodations, from bungalows with natural pools, to grand rooms in "Old World" style of the main Dutch House.
Why not drive through a small game reserve, with Zebras and others animals watching you as go to your huge room decorated like a safari lodge overlooking a Balinese style lake?
The main house, where an excellent breakfast is served is furnished with safari trophies that inspires visions of Tarzan and Jungle Jim movies!
The estate is situated high up in the valley overlooking the town, yet only a 6 minute drive to all the fine restaurants and shops of Franschhoek.
Oh yes!! the property is not expensive either!!! Go there!!

Arrived for wine tasting and drive around the estate to see the wildlife. No idea the two would be at the same time, enjoyed seeing zebra, wildebeest and ostrich close up whilst taking advantage of key vantage points to enjoy different wines under the excellent care of Dowyne, our driver and wine expert for the day. Downye was a very interesting guide, knowledgeable not only about Chamonix and their wines but the whole Franschoek area and its history. It was such an amazing setting, each wine tasted with a different vista and the view from the manor house terrace is one I will hold in my head for ever... truly magical.

We were meandering through Franschoek and let down by a another establishment when we decided to call Chamonix at 14h30 to see if we could have a quick bite.

Clifford, the Manager informed us the kitchen was closing. We placed an order for the Salt and pepper squid and the Miso beef over the phone as we were 19 minutes away.

We arrived and sat on the deck choosing the Chamonix Chardonnay which was buttery and not too wooded.

Clifford's service and hospitality was amazing and he afforded us the pleasure of tasting their Borders Blend, the Chamonix Troika....OMG!!! Definitely the vest red wine I have had all year.

The food was great, given our last minute request and the day was completed with the Chamonix Grappa, again, faultless.

It was the best day we have had this year and a welcome spoil given this terrible pandemic.

10/10 for me. Thank you, Clifford!!!

My husband booked the scenic lodge for my birthday and wow the views are absolutely breathtaking but the lodge is spacious, tastefully decorated and clean. Breakfasts were great and enjoyed the much needed swimming pool. The lady in the office is an absolute darling and went the extra mile for us as we left something behind. Highly recommend this beautiful peaceful setting.

We had a fantastic welcome, tour of the estate and game drive from Herschel, followed by an amazing lunch at Arkeste.
The staff were lovely and lunch was perfect on the terrace. Great to meet the Chef as it's always lovely to give personal appreciation.
Definately recommend a leisurely lunch with a glass or two of their excellent wine

This was the highlight of our day. From the moment we entered, Samantha pulled out all the stops. She certainly made the wine sound interesting and delicious. This went from just another wine tasting in Franschhoek to a memorable event. She is a great ambassador for Chamonix, whose wines are very promising. The setting is beautiful under the oak trees and this is what wine tasting in the Cape should be all about. Put this on your list of wine-tasting because you will not be sorry.
