We stayed here end of April. I feel conflicted writing this review, as I'm not quite sure how to rate this property. I'll start with the good. The location is second to none. Down a quiet lane, beautiful old Cape Dutch buildings and exquisite views - just what you'd expect from an exclusive winelands getaway. The owners are obviously art-lovers/collectors and anyone interested in this, will find their collection impressive. The scrambled eggs were the best I've ever had. Despite another review, our fruit plate was fresh and lovely. When the sun peered through the clouds in the morning, the staff quickly set our table up outside on the stoep with views over the little lake - which was very special. We thought the owners and the staff were all friendly and helpful. I had to work in the lounge & piano den few times - shuffled their chairs and tables around to suit my needs and they had no issues with this. We got a complimentary bottle of (their) wine, which was a nice touch (and the wine was excellent). The towels were fresh and clean, and so was the (white) linen. Check in & out was easy with little fuss. Now the not so good. This property feels more like you are a guest in someone's house and less like a boutique hotel. I love dogs and kids - and these one's are particularly sweet - but they do not belong in the public area of a hotel or in the dining area. We retreated to a quiet nook one night to play backgammon over a glass of wine, when the entire family (including pets) surrounded us asking about the rules of the game. Weird. I know their intention was good, as I got upgraded to the suit in the main house, but I asked to be in a quiet room away from all public areas. As you can hear speaking & music from this room, I would rather prefer a small, but quiet room. The bed throws and cushions are filthy...not sure they ever get washed. The drawers were filled with books and diaries which presumably had no better place to be stored. The non-allergenic pillows were terrible. The bathroom is old and outdated. The bath products frankly awful (in broker plastic bottles). The gardens are pretty, but not kept as pristinely as one would expect from a boutique hotel. When all four rooms are full, breakfast is a noisy, chaotic affair (there are other spaces and people should be spread out for a more excusive feel). Basically kids goind to school, dogs barking and running around and noise coming from the kitchen (open door). PS. Please get rid of that 'covid' table with the gold sequence cloth and buddha in the main lobby, it's tacky and creates an unpleasant first impression. Generally, we had a really good experience. I do not think it deserves proper boutique status and definitely not 5 stars. It has stiff competition from very exclusive properties in town. I wish them all the best going forward.…
We had a wonderful stay at Holden Manz Country House, perfectly located on a beautiful estate only 3mn drive from Franschhoek village. The service is absolutely exceptional and flawless with a great attention to details. We felt like real VIPs during our entire stay! The country house is beautiful with gorgeous artworks everywhere and a mix of traditional and contemporary decoration. The suit we were staying in was really big and comfortable, with a special mention to the amazing king size bed and the fireplace, perfect for rainy days! The breakfast is also delicious and of great quality, with many options to choose from. I will definitely come back, thank you so much for everything!
Our family celebrated my sister's birthday here. Everything was perfect really perfect - from the go-the-extra-mile staff, to exquisite walks in the vineyards, to cooling swims in the pool and enjoying high tea in the gorgeous sitting rooms surrounded by exquisite sculptures and paintings. We will be back as soon as we can. Thank you.
We had booked Holden Manz for a function and everything was perfect - the staff were so helpful, caring and well organised; the House itself was amazing: the scenery stunning and the wines outstanding. No more than 5 minutes from the centre of Franshoek, the location was superb - close enough to the centre but still in its quiet and serene location. I highly recommend Holden Manz!!
