Detailed Reviews
We had the most wonderful experience staying at the very charming La Fontaine while on our honeymoon. It’s centrally convenient to the downtown (about a 3 min walk to the wine tram!) and restaurants. The hotel has recently been remodeled, and we felt at home in our beautiful room, with a huge bath/bathroom facing out to a deck overlooking the mountains (superb view). The manager Kim as well as the rest of the staff were always very friendly and willing to help with recommendations, tips and of course ensuring we had a nice nightcap! The lounge is quite cozy and has a nice fireplace, perfect to wind down after a day of touring the vineyards. We visited in the winter, so unfortunately didn’t get to enjoy the pool, but the grounds outside were still quite pretty! Thank you for the wonderful treatment, we can’t wait to come back! Thanks to our travel agent, Samantha at Rhino Africa, for recommending!

I had the opportunity to stay at La Fontaine for Valentines weekend and this was really an incredible stay.
We stayed in room 10 which was located with easy access to the one pool and despite the proximity, we felt an overwhelming amount of privacy.
All the facilities are well maintained and looked after with care, and a personal favorite I cannot stop raving about is the extra length king bed, each member on duty was so approachable and friendly, while making sure every need we had was met. Washington made such yummy G&Ts and Warwick and Kim made sure we were comfortable during our stay, and the food was so tasty and well priced for the portions. I would definitely make sure I visit this property and have advised many friends about this gem.

We had the most wonderful time with our 2 boys at La Fontaine this past weekend. The rooms were spotless, the staff were extremely attentive and the breakfast was delicious. The beds were also so comfortable! Sitting by the gorgeous fireplace having a drink after dinner was the best. Nothing we asked of the staff was too much trouble. It was also wonderful to be so close to the centre of town that we were able to walk to everything we needed. A wonderful time away-our only complaint was that we wish we had stayed longer! We will definitely be back! Thank you!

Perfection - a 5 star experience, at a 4 star boutique hotel, with 4 star prices,
Our outstanding experience started at the booking stage with Tania. Due to Covid & South Africa being on and off the Red list we cancelled and rebooked:amended 3 times. None of this fazed Tania.
When travelling in South Africa in particular, standards for boutique hotels and guest houses are generally pretty high. La Fontaine took these standards to a different level again. The welcome was outstanding from the lovely Cecilia and Franklyn, Both incredibly professional and very warm. First and lasting impressions of the sitting room, bar area and dining room & adjoining terrace were great. Our suite was lovely although only a small terrace outside, it was opposite to the lovely smaller pool area.
We then met Kim the lovely manager, the following day: she is an amazing host and it was immediately clear as to why La Fontaine is the standard it is. Kim, together with her team, have a passion and expertise for hospitality which is just outstanding. Nothing was any problem. We had a bit of early morning noise from the bedroom above, on the first morning. The two children were departing for boarding school at 6,00 am and oblivious to the fact they were banging doors every few minutes. Kim snd Cecilia were mortified when we told them (not their fault at all) and they showed us 3 alternative rooms. However when we heard that the children were not returning, only their parents, we decided to keep our lovely original room and were pleased we did! Very comfortable bed, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean.
Breakfast was fabulous. Beautifully cooked, great presentation, excellent choice, and fabulous service. Eaten on the pretty vine covered terrace.
Pools were lovely, with very comfortable surrounding each.
We had lunch on the second day and what a treat. Again, not what we expected from a relatively small hotel. Delicious and exquisitely presented - not a surprise when we discovered that Ashley, the lovely chef had worked at top establishments such as La Colombe.
We were asked daily what they could book and organise for us and were spot on with all their recommendations. They offer complimentary bikes, which sadly we completely overlooked. The bar area was great to come home to, after eating out and mingle with fellow guests. The location and proximity to all Franschoek’s facilities, is perfect.
I would love to keep La Fontaine a secret, because it is indeed a secret gem….but that wouldn’t be fair on the wonderful, passionate and hard working team there! We’ve booked to return same time next year.

We really had an amazing time staying at La Fontaine
The staff is very friendly and has a high attention to detail. The service was outstanding and they really pay close attention to your likes and dislikes.
I recommend that you make all your bookings through the Hotel - they took care of all our requests and made amazing recommendations based on what they picked up that we liked.
This is definitely a good place to stay - where you can relax with a cocktail next to the pool during the day and you are close enough to other restaurants and wine farms for some fine dining.

This small guest house/hotel is perfectly placed to stroll into beautiful Franschoek. The bed was huge the room and bathroom on the small side but we chose this over a larger room to have an outside patio area adjacent to one of the 2 pools. Helpful friendly staff nothing is too much trouble. Extremely comfortable interesting bar area. Various places to sit outside. Good breakfast. A must is the wine tram.

After a lot of research we picked this hotel for our New Year’s Eve stay - and we couldn’t have picked anywhere better. It is a fantastic boutique hotel and one we will definitely return to on our next trip to this area.
The rooms are beautifully decorated, with huge and very comfortable beds. All the public areas of the hotel are very stylish, including the bar - where we celebrated the New Year.
The staff go out of their way to be helpful.
The main town, with restaurants and shops, is a very short walk away.
We would fully recommend La Fontaine.

We stayed in La Fontaine for New Year (31.12.19) and had a great time, Kim and her team are so lovely hosts and welcomed us so nicely at La Fontaine.
The rooms are spacious, with modern bathrooms and great ambience incl Nespresso Café machine with local cafe (we went there the next day to buy lots of cafe cups to bring home).
We booked on very short notice (only the night before) and Kim helped us to find a restaurant both for dinner and lunch which was great.
The pools in the garden are very nice to escape from the heat. We will definitely come back

La Fontaine is very handily located for the main street where most of the restaurants and shops are, and is a very charming small hotel. Our room was large with a huge and very comfortable bed, plus a generously sized desk. the bathroom was huge, with what looked like a very good bath, and what was definitely a very good shower. The bathroom was also equipped with a selection of books on cricket that sadly we didn't have time to read.
The hotel grounds are very pretty, and there is plenty of seating around the two pools.
Breakfast was a mixture of an extensive and imaginative buffet, plus cooked options that we didn't try as we had a lunch date.
All in all thoroughly recommended

La Fontaine
Recently I had the pleasure to stay at La Fontaine in Franschhoek, an absolutely spectacular bed and breakfast in the Wine Lands, you could do no better than La Fontaine… particularly at that price point. The rooms are super clean and wonderful. The breakfasts beyond belief and the omelets and other food that is prepared is as good as it gets. The omelets are so delicious.
As for locations, it is on a street that runs parallel to the main street in Franschhoek, and you are about a two-minute stroll to a wine train pickup point that will shuttle you to the main depot in two or three minutes.
Everything seemed blissfully perfect when I stayed there, and in truth I cannot wait to return.
However, the crowning glory are the people that are there to help you. Of particular note, is the general manager who once was a sommelier. Kim Barends is a marvel of knowledge and efficiency. There is nothing that I imagine that she cannot do. She literally goes out of her way to help you and spend time with you so that your stay is as perfect as possible. She is chock-full of information on every wine train route and vineyard. What a wealth of information she is willing to share! Cecilia is another person at La Fontaine that just can’t do enough for you, and the same goes for Karloff... his folks named him Karloff!
Also, for what it is worth, they are a block or two from three of the best restaurants in Franschhoek.
I might add that La Fontaine is just a bit higher than some of the other Bed and Breakfasts. But, in this case it is worth a few pennies more that you will pay for a ton of extra services. Oh yes, they even put a sweet on your pillow at night!

Hi Glenys,
For good casual dining, The French Connection is great! For fine dining, try Foliage, Le Bon Vivant or Reuben's restaurant. All within walking distance.
Kind regards,
