Excellent hotel, which incorporates several colonial style buildings with magnificent views of the vineyards and mountains. We stayed one night in a family room with two single beds in the upper loft and a double bed, room more than large and equipped with every necessary comfort. In the evening you have the opportunity to dine in two restaurants : one more in hand but with an excellent menu; the other (the one we then chose) decidedly more refined with an excellent menu (congratulations to the chefs ) , the price is in line with the quality expressed in the dishes (165 € for 4 pp) We came out fully satisfied . Excellent breakfast , plentiful and international with an excellent quality of choice and products . The hotel complex is part of a series of buildings that blend well into the surrounding environment, with attention to detail, with a beautiful outdoor pool a SPA, tennis courts and a gym. We are fully satisfied with the choice and recommend it to anyone choosing a refined stay immersed in tranquility.

Le Franschoek Hotel and Spa.
We are located in Gordons Bay so we took a lovely wander over Sir Lowrys Pass, through Grabouw, Elgin, over the Franschoek pass and landed up at what used to be the Swiss Farm Excelsior which we have both visited previously. A glorious setting with rolling lawns, a sparkling pool and trees covered with Autumn leaves, and live entertainment on call by lots of squirrels scurrying around.
We sat outside, a very elegant and sophisticated veranda area where we were the only guests. The prices were on the fairly high side but as a tourist with Euros, Pounds or Dollars, probably more affordable. We chose to share the Ribeye as we were assured it was enough for 2 (it was) and after a beer each, chose a bottle of red.
Here's where things got sticky.....food arrived on a platter, husband asked whether either our plates could be hot or the platter with the meat and chips on should be hot. We were told the salad couldn't be on a hot platter (fair point but could you not serve it separately?) We mentioned this to our waitress who then said she had told the chef. We then asked for serving utensils, which never arrived, and dug our forks into the salad and chips with our used knives and forks (or hands!). Not a problem sharing with my husband but not great if you are out with a friend. The salad was glorious with a superb lime chimichurri dressing, the chips were run-of-the-mill oven chips and the meat was so well done (does "chargrilled" mean tough as leather?) that we left quite a bit of it. Of course, it was cold too.
Here comes the bit that really rattled my cage. The waitress appears to clear our plates, Mike is still chewing on his meat and sipping half a glass of red wine and the dear girl barks out " I will get your bill" (no, she was not going off shift). No offer of a dessert menu, coffee, nada. We paid, tipped her well (why I wonder) and left.
Setting and ambience: 9/10 for serenity and beauty
Food: 6/10
Recommend? No, not really as they were not at all open to valid requests, and showed it!

From the moment we booked our stay at Le Franschhoek with Vivencia, we knew we were in for a treat. Vivencia worked within our budget to get the very most out of our 3 night weekend. From the welcome desk (with a glass of complimentary bubbles) to the gentleman who helped carry our bags to the room, to the lovely ladies who serviced the room - all the staff were absolutely outstanding. The ladies also surprised us with a very romantic turndown surprise on the bed - rose petals etc. They really went to extraordinary lengths to make our visit very special. The breakfasts were out of this world - and once again, the staff who take care of this were just wonderful. We had a magnificent Fine Dining experience at the Sauvage Restaurant, where Executive Head Chef, Kyle Norris, pulled out all the stops to show off his tremendous skills. The Restaurant Manager, Holly, was such a wonderful hostess and really made our evening "off the charts" special. Chef Odette also blessed us with a few very delicious extra treats between courses. We were once again surprised when Holly presented us with a "Happy Anniversary" card, signed by all the staff at Sauvage who were involved with us.

My wife was very spoilt with a few treatments at the Camelot Spa, and apparently had the "best foot massage of my life".

Thank you to everyone at Le Franschhoek for an incredible visit, it really meant the world to us.

I would like to express my dissatisfaction with my recent experience at the hotel, which did not meet expectations.

Upon arrival at 7:30 PM, we were informed that our room would not be ready until 9:30 PM due to a mix-up involving another couple with a similar surname. Despite the different spellings and first names, the error led to an unnecessary delay that was quite frustrating, particularly as our passports were provided during the check-in process.

The breakfast offered, while seemingly appealing, did not meet standards of quality. The toast was only cooked on one side, which set a disappointing tone for the meal. Furthermore, the service during dinner was exceptionally slow; we waited an hour and a half for our meals, despite the restaurant having only eight other patrons.

I have photographs of the meals received, which I found to be subpar. The overall quality of the food was lackluster, and I cannot recommend this establishment based on my experience. Additionally, the service was unsatisfactory, and instead of resolving our concerns professionally, the manager engaged in a dispute regarding the food.

Finally, we have also been erroneously charged for food and drinks that we did not consume. Overall, I believe this hotel does not provide the level of service and value that one would expect.

I was looking forward to a solo stay after a week and a half travelling with friends. I was shown to my room and upon getting in the shower, I noticed a strong sewage smell which was very unpleasant. The shower in room 23 was very weak and as someone with very long and thick hair, it took me double the time to wash it.

I then went to the terrace for lunch, where the food was awful. I ordered a chicken bao dish, and when it arrived it was a pile of minced chicken in burger buns covered in honey and reheated rice balls. Nearly inedible but I ate it anyway as was very hungry. I retired to my room for an early night and around 8pm noticed a very bad smell of cooking fish in my room obviously rising from the restaurant. I called reception and they almost immediately swapped my room (to a nicer room too). There are lots of steps throughout the hotel which will definitely make it difficult for someone with accessibility requirements.

In my first room there was a smart TV (which is great for someone like me who loves Netflix) however on my new room there is just a standard TV which was disappointing. Breakfast was a nice spread however the food looked like it has been sat out for a while - the hotel should absolutely make use of the beautiful terrace for breakfast however this was served in a bleak white room with cheap seats and tables. I asked for a mixed veg omelette due to a dislike of mushrooms (a mushroom omelette was offered on the menu). This would have taken the chef a few minutes to prepare as I wasn’t asking much. After taking my order, the waitress returned and told me the chef could only make what was on the menu. I ended up eating fruit and bread with butter - there was not even a toaster on offer.

I stayed at the hotel on Christmas Day, and was not told in advance that I would have to order the Christmas lunch otherwise I would have no other options. Usually hotels of this size offer an alternate menu for those not interested in paying for the lunch. In the end the hotel offered me pasta to my room, even though the terrace had availability.

I had a spa treatment which was excellent, however the spa itself is run down and tatty. The pool is nice however very few beds.

The surroundings are beautiful and the staff are lovely, however this was not a four star experience. I won’t be returning.

We arrived just after midday at this pretty hotel, with accommodation in thatched villas just outside Franschhoek, to a lukewarm welcome. We were told our room would not be ready until 2pm so we found our way to the terrace for a drink and a snack. The food arrived in huge portions (each would have fed 2 hungry people). We were not impressed by the service having witnessed a member of staff knock a glass off a table and make little effort to clear it up, leaving glass shards across the floor we’re walking to and from the swimming pool with bare feet.
Just before 2pm we presented ourselves back at a busy reception to be ignored for half an hour. We eventually spoke to a member of staff who made some effort to check if our room was ready. She made an excuse that previous occupants had been late leaving. We were taken to the room on the top floor of one the villas and settled in. It looked pretty and comfortable with a good sized balcony. We were aware of some potential disturbance from the generator during load shedding. Unfortunately, this happened in middle of the night which meant we didn’t sleep well despite the bed being comfortable. None of the doors shut properly. The front door required slamming, which possibly disturbed our downstairs neighbours each time we went out.
There was a shuttle bus to the town but this was not complementary or particularly reliable. We were astonished to be charged for bottled water at breakfast.
Our planned pick up to leave arrived about an hour earlier than planned and although we had checked out and paid our bill we were not told this. Again we presented ourselves at reception about half an hour before it was due to be told our driver was waiting for us. Very disappointed at the poor service and quality in this pretty hotel that has so much potential to be fabulous.

My wife and I are on our golden wedding anniversary trip doing the garden route of South Africa. We recently stayed at Le Franshhoek and had booked the Sauvage resturant for a special meal to celebrate. We got dressed up in our finery and went th the bar which was empty and very cold so we asked the bar staff to light the fire as it was strangely not alight. I asked for a draught beer only to be told they had run out of all brands . We then asked to sit at the table only to find that out of a 60+ seater resturant we were the only guests that night . We was very disappointed and left . The other resturant was also deserted so we left that . The hotel kindly took us to town to a nice resturant and collected us . The following day the hotel was full of men in suites we then realised that this hotel is primarily a corporate function /delegation events based hotel

We stayed here for one night as part of our multi trip honeymoon and were unfortunately very disappointed with our stay. It was by no means a 4 star experience. From check in we felt like we were just a major inconvenience to staff. The atmosphere was very unwelcoming and our receptionist who checked us in was very unfriendly and not very helpful in advising us on what vineyard would be able to accommodate us with a wine tasting. We were allocated one of the lodges which was outdated and in badly need of some modernisation. Even though the whole estate seemed quiet during our stay and the other villas with far more superior views were clearly vacant, we didn't receive one of the villas with a mountain view. The hot and cold mixer in the bath and sink were not working in our lodge and when we rang reception, we were told that had already been alerted to this by their maintenance man prior to our arrival. We were then given the option of using the downstairs bath which meant leaving our lodge in our robe and going outside in the dark. Not ideal and no apology was made for this inconvenience. At check in we were told that breakfast was served until 10.30am. We arrived at 9.50am to find several staff setting up tables for lunch etc. Again, we were met with an unwelcoming atmosphere and felt like we were causing an inconvenience by being there. I'm not sure what royalty were coming to the hotel later but they were certainly more important than us!! At 10.30 a line of kitchen staff arrived to remove the buffet and we were not asked if we were finished or if we would like anything else. Again, not the 4 star experience we would expect. The high tea as part of our honeymoon package was a highlight for us but was unfortunately overshadowed by the many negatives of our stay and more importantly the feeling that we were not welcome. Very disappointing.

Fantastic stay here, the accommodation was first rate and the staff were brilliant and could not have done more. The shuttle service was fantastic made it feel as if we were in the centre of town, actually better because they went over and above by escorting us to the restaurant to confirm reservations. They also utilise a WhatsApp service which makes everything seamless from making reservations made at local restaurant to order the shuttle from town. I have no problem strongly recommending this hotel.

The hotel has mixed reviews but my 4 nights here have been wonderful. Does it warrant a 4 star rating, maybe not but I can't fault the friendly helpful staff who were attentive and polite. The town itself is about 3km away but the hotel will provide a shuttle at cost if asked but we found that our British Uber app worked just as well and the taxi cost was just £2 each way. The wine tours are staggeringly good value and shame the equivalent in Australia. Plan a mid forenoon start on the wine tour in order try as many as possible even though the sun may not be over the yardarm. We shall defiantly be back.

Hot and cold dishes available at breakfast: fruits, cold meat, cheese, cereal, yogurts - as well as such expected hot foods as eggs, bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms, sausages (western expectations). Plenty of bread varieties and fresh pastries. Fruit juices, tea, coffee. Lunch menu a little disappointing: mostly sandwiches, burgers, salads. A good time to go and eat in the village of Franschhoek. Dinner (at Dish Restaurant) is well served and of high class. Meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. Nothing particularly exciting, but all extremely well cooked, flavoured and presented. Such ingredients as Cape salmon, calamari, chicken, duck, lamb (which I found vey good), steaks; pasta, vegetables. Various desserts. A good wine list (of South African wines) with a wide range of wines by the glass.
