La Cle Lodge is a tranquil and beautiful property located in the heart of Franschhoek. We spent 4 unforgettable nights here and were consistently blown away by the beauty of the property and its surroundings and kindness of the staff.

Location: The property is located only minutes away from the centre of Franschhoek but you would never know it staying there, given how peaceful and quiet it is. Walking to the main road and surrounding restaurants is quick, easy and safe (even at night) as is getting to the Wine Tram station.

Property: The Lodge is located on a large estate with a pool, its own vineyard, tennis court, fountains, sculptures and even a small lake you can take a paddle boat on. The highlight of our stay was exploring the wider estate as the sun was setting across the mountains - an absolute delight. The Lodge itself is beautiful and built in a colonial style with peaceful music playing during the day that put you at ease straightaway.

Room: We were grateful to have been upgraded to a Garden Room that faced the pool and vineyard. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've ever slept on and it was a treat to have a tub in the room. The bathroom was beautifully decorated with a great double shower and the products provided were lush.

Service: The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. From the gentlemen at security to Leslie and the ladies in the kitchen, everyone welcomed us with an enormous smile and did everything to make our stay perfect. The breakfast was delicious and delivered quickly every time and the iced rooibos tea was a treat to come back after a day on the wine tram!

Areas for improvement: The pool could have been cleaned a bit more regularly but to be honest this is such a minor gripe when compared to how amazing everything else was.

Thank you for making our stay so wonderful!

We stayed here for 3 nights. The ambiance, location, FOOD, hospitality, were all wonderful. After a lot of research on where to stay, we are so glad we selected this place. We had a home cooked dinner our first night at the lodge and it was absolutely delicious, highly recommended. We also loved the breakfast spread every morning--so good! We do hope to be back.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the lodge in May 2022. It is a beautiful hotel with many homely touches (comfortable living areas for reading, fires lit and very nice interiors). The bathroom was bigger than some apartments and very luxurious.

It’s a great location for exploring the winelands as you are in walking distance of the wine tram and can also access other vineyards on foot (Mont Rochelle, Le Lude).

We ate in 2/3 nights and were blown away by the delicious home cooked meals. On one evening, it was just the two of us, so it was like having a private chef in a very fancy home.

This hotel was absolutely lovely - we stayed for 3 nights when we arrived on our first trip to South Africa

The lodge and rooms are stunning. The lodge has a lovely relaxed quiet private feel as they only have a few rooms, with a pool, terrace and shaded seating area. The grounds are large with the vineyard, pool, and tennis courts. It's only 2 blocks from the village and a short walk to the wine tram so perfect for getting around. Breakfast was plentiful and they arranged special vegan milk & yoghurt for me which was perfect. Would highly recommend for a luxury stay!

We spent two nights of our honeymoon at La Cle and had the most fantastic time. The property is absolutely stunning - our room had a freestanding bath and one of the comfiest and biggest beds we've ever slept in. We were also welcomed by a complimentary bottle of their Chardonnay, and enjoyed complimentary homemade onion bhajis by the pool.

The dining room is gorgeous, as is the breakfast - fresh fruit platters, a cheese board, pastries and a variety of delicious hot options cooked to order.

There is also a small pond at the bottom of the vineyard with pedalos as well as a tennis court. Lovely spot at sunset.

Chanè, Ian, Carmen and the team were always on hand and regularly checked in to make sure everything was to our liking. Thank you so much for our incredible stay - we'd love to return one day!

This beautiful residence is located in a quiet street very close to the village of Franschhoek. You can enjoy a more than 5-star service, tranquillity and an insanely friendly staff. The decoration is top notch, the views magnificent, the catering amazing.... in short, nothing but superlatives for this blissful place! If you're looking for style without excessive bingbling, this is the place to be.

Thank you, Melanie and the rest of La Clé’s staff for a lovely, restful stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our highlight was swimming amidst the beautiful scenery. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast, particularly the fresh, authentic croissants.

A serene, rejuvenating, and simply wonderful stay.

Thank you! ✨

Wow…. What a wonderful place to stay! We visited as part of our honeymoon, staying in the Petit room in the lodge. The lodge is so beautiful, with amazing grounds. The staff do everything they can for you, bringing complimentary snacks and wine in the afternoons by the pool was a lovely touch, and a turn down service at night. They even ironed our clothes for us each evening when we asked for the iron. The beds were really comfy, with a turn service each evening. Located right in Franschhoek’s centre. Highly recommend - thanks Julia and the team.

We spent 3 nights here as part of our honeymoon, and loved it. We had a petit room which was very nice, very comfy bed and a nice bathroom. The pool area is amazing with views to die for. Breakfast was amazing, so much on offer and they’ll make you a hot breakfast at request too with no further cost. What sets this apart is the special touches, the complimentary wines poured whilst you bask in the sun, the chocolates by the bed, the wonderful staff who make you feel as if you’re in your own home. Also a great location to walk to many amazing restaurants, bars and to the wine tram (which is epic!). We highly recommend this and would definitely return to a beautiful part of the world

We recently spent 5 nights at La Cle in the Villas. We were a family of 6 adults and had an incredible experience. The Villa was so comfortable, stylish and lovely and right in the heart of Franschoek so it was easily accessible to everything in the area. We used it as our base for day trips to Cape Town and thought this was a brilliant strategy. Melanie and her staff were absolutely amazing and catered to our every need. We had them prepare 2 lunches and 2 dinners for us after long days out or a day off and the food was absolutely incredible. They provided complimentary laundry service which was such a nice touch. They also recommended some amazing restaurants in the area and arranged transport for us-- they attended to our every need. I would highly recommend Melanie and her team and this gorgeous property in Franschoek
