La Chataigne Farm is a wine farm with cottages set 7km outside of Franschhoek Town in the winelands. Our guests have a choice of three quaint Riverside Cottages, set within metres of the Franschhoek River, and two contemporary Stable Cottages with mountain views and private pools. All of our cottages are self-catering with an open plan living area, fireplace, fully equipped kitchen and bbq/braai facilities. The Riverside Cottages have north and south facing veranda's and share The Orchard Pool for hot summer days. The Stable cottages have spacious decks with private pools. All of our cottages offer a tranquil space for a relaxing getaway. Guest are welcome to walk along the river bordering the farm, meander through the vineyards, soak up the sun at the Orchard Pool, enjoy a game of boules at sunset, and pick vegetables and herbs out of the Garden. End off your day relaxing on the stoep (verandah/patio) and sipping on a glass of wine from the very vineyards spread out before you.

This little cottage blew us away! My husband and I spent our honeymoon in South Africa and did a couple nights in the winelands. The cottage was beautiful and modern, clean, and had all the kitchen amenities you'd need - would be great for a longer stay! They even encourage you to pick your own vegetables from the vegetable garden. The plunge pool and deck facing the mountains was a beautiful backdrop to the weekend, and there is a larger modern pool available as well. We were able to walk and run along the vineyards and felt very safe with the safety system built in the cottages. Izzy was a big help and really was attentive and available during our stay. Less than a 10 min drive to all the buzziness of Franschhoek proper.

La Chataigne winery has a few guest rooms and cottages, all named chestnut in various languages (just like the winery itself). We stayed in Chestnut, arguably the nicest cottage they have. It is a small house nestled between a creak (in the back) and the vineyards (in the front). You have a large tree and a pool in front of the cottage. The house itself consists of a combined kitchen / living room, a bedroom, and a bathroom. All topnotch. Excellent shower and bathtub (something we learned not to take for granted during our trip). Lots of privacy at the Chestnut house. They do not serve breakfast or other meals, so bring your own food or be prepared to drive to Franschhoek. It is a 5-minute drive away. And you need a car anyway to navigate through wine country. The estate has a larger pool that you can use if the one at the Chestnut house is not big enough. When enjoying your time at La Chataigne you might very well think that you are somewhere in the South of France.

Location is amazing with small river at back of cottage and vines and plunge pool at the front. Decor and facilities were all excellent and daily cleaning etc was a bonus. Host Richard gave us a personal wine tasting session which was one of the highlights of our trip and we may buy his remaining stocks of the 2018 Sauvignon which was delicious. There is a small herb and veg garden that we were allowed to help ourselves too also

Couldn't fault our stay. We stayed for 2 nights in the Marron Cottage. The cottage was perfect for 2 couples, and the bedrooms and communal indoor/outdoor areas were all fantastic and so comfortable. The only flaw was no aircon, but we knew this when we booked and the owner provided fans and said they are adding this in. The service we received from booking, to before arriving and when we were there was fantastic. The team were always happy to help and went above and beyond what you'd expect. The cottages are in a glorious vineyard, and it was so easy to access central Franschhoek. The pool area is also really nice.

Stayed for 2 nights in February and had an excellent stay In advance of us staying we had a few questions about baggage storage/ location, and the team members were super quick to respond to any queries. They were even happy to organise a wine tasting with the owner, which isn’t always possible (the tasting was amazing, with delicious wine, and the owner is such a nice guy!) The property is in close proximity to franshoek (10 mins in an Uber for 100 rand). The property is spread out amongst the greenery. We stayed in the marron cottage and it was of good quality. It had everything we needed for the two night stay, including a fully stocked kitchen and a braii area, including wood. The only small comment is the cottage don’t have air con, but this was advertised, and it cooled down quickly in the evening. The owner also mentioned this would be added soon! The pool and garden areas are also lovely to spend time around. All of the staff members we interacted with were super helpful, including helping with taxis when we struggled. Highly recommend a stay!

The service we received here was so amazing. From when I booked to the day we left. We had to reschedule due to covid and still the staff was friendly. The views are so breathtaking from all around. And the wine farm as well as the cottage we stayed in were so welcoming. Since we brought our daughter we stayed at one of the two family cottages. Kastajee was it. Situated an hour outside of Cape Town in a small wine town of Franschoek. On arrival we hit the pool before heading out to get diner. The cottages are self-catering and come fully equipped with cutlery, stove, fridge and many more to make it as homely as possible. We were able to make breakfast. And you don't have to worry about groceries as there is a Woolworths just less than 10km from the town. This place has many things to do and at super affordable rates. And if you don't have kids I really recommend the Chesnut with it grape vine and mountain views. And the wine was amazing and o e of the best things about staying here. And we like that we can still order wine to be delivered for us in Johannesburg. I would recommend staying here and planning to go back for my winter get away without the kids. And the family cottages are nestled besides the flowing stream.

Room Tip: Book the Chesnut for couples. And it's nit a long drive to the Cape and you can still enjoy Cape...

In May 2021 my wife and I spent 1 night at La Chatâigne, a very beautiful wine farm in Franschoek that dates back to 1688. We very much appreciated the friendly welcome from Julie the owner as well as Izzey who showed us to our room. For our stay we chose the Blanc stable cottage and wow were we delighted we did! The design and decor is classic contemporary elegance and comfort. The attention to detail in this accommodation is in every sense fantastic! As for the private deck, plunge pool and spectacular views - wow! I think we may just have found our favourite place to stay in Franschoek :) Oh, and their 2014 Merlot is delicious!

Had a 2 day break in La Chataigne and wish we could have stayed longer. We stayed in Noir cottage. Absolutely beautiful. So Stylish. Beautiful views and our own pool. It was idyllic. The cottage has a braai; there is an excellent vegetable garden , it was a real treat to pick fresh lettuce and herbs to accompany our evening meals. We also enjoyed playing boules in a stunning setting. Watching the sun go down over the mountains from our deck was so special. Highly recommended.

We stayed 2 nights in the Blanc stable cottage. It is modern with the most beautiful view and the cottage has everything you need. We celebrated out 21st wedding anniversary and it was definitely the perfect choice! The pool and terrace is perfect to watch the sun set. We will definitely visit again!
