I need to warn others not to waste their money. I was incredibly disappointed by our experience here. Rooms The rooms were ice-cold as some heaters and AC units were not working, during a stormy cold front! There were cobwebs in the corners and dust particles visible all over the blanket on the bed - when you hit the blanket with your hand the dust particles would fill the air and snow down. The bathroom soaps had not received maintenance in a long time - the shower gel and shampoo genuinely smelled rotten. I never knew that soap could rot - until our visit at Gooding's Groves. Also, the website says the rooms have DStv. The TV in my room had only one channel, which was channel 100 (DStv's promo channel). This likely means their subscription is expired. They never mentioned this beforehand. Probably hoped we wouldn't notice. Food We paid R2 000 per night and received stale bread and a thin vegetable soup on Day 1 as the entire lunch meal. During a cold front, we were served cold boiled eggs, poor-quality cold ham and cheese, and stale bread (again) for breakfast. Day 3's breakfast was similar, except some poor-quality viennas were added to the spread and the bread had MOULD underneath it. Based on the texture, look and taste of the bread - it was not purchased more recently than 5 days prior. After a complaint was raised, the owner said we could have requested our eggs to be cooked to our preference at breakfast. This is something you tell your guests AT breakfast, and not only after they complain. The quiche served at lunch on Day 2 had an undercooked crust that was practically still dough. She also promised that dinner would be better, with chicken curry, fresh naan bread, and a pavlova for dessert. This was listed on the menu received prior to our visit. This dinner was instead the curry, STALE BREAD ROLLS - AGAIN (no naan) and a store-bought PnP milk tart for dessert (no pavlova). The owner disappeared before dinner and wasn't seen again, so no explanation was provided about the diversion from the expected menu. They clearly cut corners at the expense of the guests; and took no accountability. General Hospitality On arrival, there was no orientation offered of the place, such as showing us communal areas, access points and bathrooms, etc. But the owner brashly stopped people from accessing the dining room through the kitchen - an easy mistake to make considering the correct entrance is not very visible and there is no signage to indicate correct access points. The domestic staff were helpful and friendly - but it was obvious they are not given enough training and resources to do their jobs properly. We were informed that the place had recently been sold and the new owners were arriving the following month. Perhaps that's why we were given a poor experience - the owner is on her way out and didn't care enough. If that's the case, she should not be taking our money just to overpromise and underdeliver. Hopefully the new owners will do better. But it has left such a sour taste in my mouth, I will never return to find out. *Note: Their positive reviews on their website are very outdated, with the latest one being from 2012 - these cannot be an accurate representation of their service now in 2021. If I could rate this place a zero, I would.

I would give them NO START if I could. We booked the room via booking.com, we were then told that in fact that room wasn't never available, we thought hmm weird, that hasn't happened to us before but ok and move on with finding something else, however the money for booking went through. We thought it is obvious they will refund us, but it's been over a month since our return from Africa and after numerous emails sent to Goodings as well as Booking.com, we haven't got our money back! They charged us for nothing and went quiet. I strongly advise not to deal with them as they haven't bothered to respond to a single message we sent. VERY DISHONEST way of handling business.

We highly recommended this beautiful place in Franschhoek just three minutes drive to the city centre. Stylishly furnished rooms with very comfortable bed and sheets and good airco. Breakfast is very tasty. Enough choice to have a nice breakfast. Besides a small buffet you can also choose from the a la carte menu. Toast with egg and garlic mushrooms is delicious. Beautifully landscaped garden with mountain views. Everything in detail well and tastefully finished. Even the air conditioning fan outside is finished with bamboo. We felt very safe and comfortable in this accommodation. A perfect place to relax. The three small dogs are also very cute. Staff is super friendly. Owner Arlene is very nice, social and helpful. Thank you Arlene for the hospitality. Tip: download maps.me on your mobile with the map of South Africa. Then you can find Goodings Groove Olive Farm very easily and it also works without internet.

This place was stunning. The back drop was perfect and it was very close to the centre of Franschhoek. Great surprise to realise Arlene was Irish and she was so helpful, recommending lots of places to see. Breakfast was lovely too. Only downside is we never got to use the pool because of the weather!
