Our stay at La Provence was amazing! The cottages are beautiful and the owners have thought of everything! There are lots of tiny touches that just make the place so much better. Firewood and lighters provided, Mosquito spray, water in the fridge. It is obvious that the owners have put a lot of thought into how to make their guests feel comfortable. The owners are lovely and all the staff are very friendly and kind. We enjoyed our stay so so much and we will definitely be back, and recommend this place to everyone we know!

Great place on a working farm and vineyard (with ostriches ) just outside town 😀. Rooms were spacious and authentic. No issues with load shedding. Lovely grounds views and natural pool. Really friendly hosts. Great breakfast. Highly recommended.

This is an excellent place to stay. OK it's few minutes outside the town but the place is magnificent. We stayed in the Champagne cottage which was lovely. It was spotlessly clean, very well appointed with everything you need. Breakfast was great served in a lovely outside room and the hosts were fantastic - nothing too much trouble including lifts into town.

I booked two self catering cottages for us and a couple travelling with us, about 4 months in advance,. The hostess replied that these were available to us at the time of my booking. However when we arrived she'd let out the cottages so that she could make extra money by putting my husband and i and our fellow travellers
, in a side wing of the house. The whole of this wing was tired, out dated, basic, unwelcoming, smelt strongly of months of human sweat, the full bathroom furniture was scruffy, the bath with age cracks, the hand shower did not work properly. I, my husband and our two friends were paying a substantial sum per night for this. After having looked over this wing , I decided the lace was too unsavoury. I went to her office with copies of emails to show her she had agreed to providing us with a self catering cottage each. She promised she would move myself my husband and our 2 fellow travellers, the next day to the cottages we had booked the next morning. When I went to her the next morning I had to wait at her office door. She was outside talking to in a truck for sometime. She saw me there and continued with her long conversation. Eventually I was attended to, and asked about the cottages we'd booked. She dismissed it all and said the cottages were full with other bookings. And that we would hear the traffic from the main road into town. As we were in a rush to go sight seeing we decided to put up with staying on in that smelly wing. Franschoek tends to be busy so we knew we would not get in elsewhere. The wing caught the hot sun so we were uncomfortable. We told our hostess it was too hot. They brought out an antiquated air cooling electric machine which did not work and made and lot of noise and expected us to be satisfied. The Décor and furnishings was outdated. The curtain tracks were at least 80 years old. The curtains were tired, again at least 40 years old. The shower room our friends used was installed about 25 years ago and never modernised. As it was self catering all the equipment was placed in a cupboard in the middle section which as so hot. There was no washing up plumbing so we had to wash crockery/glassware in an ancient tub outside, and there was no hot tap!!. The chopping board was disgusting. All the crockery was outdated and mismatched. Some with chips. The pillows did not have pillow protectors on so they smelt of sweat. I took off a pillow slip to find the pillow full of yellow stains from sweat and saliva. Pillows need protectors and should be replaced each year.!!! The furniture was a mix of Edwardian and whatever they did not want in the main house. For the price charged it was shameful. The hostess clearly leaves the rooms to cleaning staff to do, does not come to check,, take care to repair or replace, is not in the wing long enough if she does to realise how sweaty each room is. It is clear she is just doing this to take what money she can off her guests. Finally, we asked to use the swimming pool. It was full of algae...

Response from LaProvenceVineyard, Owner at La Provence Vineyard Cottages
Responded 10 Apr 2017
I’m sorry these guests had such a bad experience and I apologise for my role in causing this. Just to point out: The guests shared the spacious unit, consisting of 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, with their friends whom they were travelling with and not with random guests. The living/dining room is communal and there are basic kitchen facilities. Guests are not expected to do their own dishes. The arrangement is that the staff comes around at least twice a day to collect, wash, and put back. The unit is decorated in the Cape Country style with items such as brass beds, Oregon Pine wardrobes, a Teak table, wash stands and a Yellow Wood kist. From other reports, it is evident that many guests enjoy the homely atmosphere. The pillows usually all have protectors, but I’m sorry if they were not clean or didn’t smell good. We tried our best making the guest more comfortable. Because she complained about the heat, we added another single bed for her in the bedroom so that she didn’t have to share the double bed and we tried to help her out with a portable air conditioner. I can also state that in Franschhoek our tariffs are toward the lower end of the scale. However, I will get someone to look at the apartment objectively and to advise, and then I will upgrade and replace where necessary.

We spend one night at La Provence while visiting Franschhoek with our kids. The accommodation is old-ish, but fits in nicely with the feel of the wine farm. Our room had a small kitchenette and enough space for 5 people and an awesome view over the vineyards. Very good service. A nice budget friendly place to stay to explore the surrounding area.

For the first time in my life my wife and I slept in a wine tank. Rather on the small side, but for a sleepover after 70th birthday adequate. The problem is however we never made it to the party as the wine supplied through the shower was very intoxicating! Owners very friendly and helpful!. For a once in a life time experience!

All you can ask for and more. A walk through the wine farm's traditional wine making facilities is a must. Meet the local ostriches! If you are keen on a run, every Saturday there is the local Parkrun through the vineyard.

We had not planned our accommodation in the wine country outside of Cape Town as we weren't sure where we would end up (Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek etc). We drove into La Provence on a whim off the road and were so happy that we did. We felt extremely lucky to have had the experience of staying with Johan an Carin as they're wonderfully hospitable people who are so friendly and inviting. The cottage we stayed in was a real treat with the most comfortable king bed, a huge bathroom and a fire place which made our evening most pleasant. The place was super clean and cosy and breakfast the next morning was a delicious feast. A very homely stay - loved it!
