Detailed Reviews
We stayed 2 nights in one of the Orchard Cottages. Would've loved to stay an extra night or two. Accommodation was clean, spacious and comfortable. Lovely views both from within the cottage and the veranda of the Franschoek valley and mountains. Notwithstanding mostly cool and overcast weather we were able to enjoy the private plunge pool. Good location - away from the main road, yet close enough to walk to the main strip - restaurants, pubs as well as the Wine Tram station.
Given an opportunity we will be back.

La Cotte - Perfection in every way ❤️🇿🇦
After 4th time and stay at 2 different Orchard Cottages and 2 different rooms at the Manor House hotel, only conclusion is:
La Cotte is MY home away from home, while staying in Franschhoek 🇿🇦
Only way to describe it is: PERFECTION in every way and it is included on my “Precious” list ❤️
From location, comfort, deco, views, food, historical link since it dates to 1698 when it was one of the first Hugenot Farms which were granted to French Immigrants to currently immaculate and über friendly service from all staff. To mention a few:
Brigitte, Vernancio, Alfredo & Denver, Cazandra, Hettie and many more who worked behind the scenes I.e. housekeeping staff who ensured that our rooms were immaculate and cleaned daily, to restaurant staff who superbly looked after us during the meals.
If you are looking for a exceptional place to stay, with above inclusions and impeccable service, I invite you to make La Cotte (regardless where you will be staying), your home away from home.
Be warned: once you visit and stay at La Cotte, you will never want to leave or like me, always want to go back.
As said, it is Perfection in every way ❤️🇿🇦

I cannot say enough how much we loved our stay at La Cotte Orchard cottage. What is not to love? A cute cottage with a cozy sitting room, bedroom and huge bath all with sweeping views over the Franschhoek vally, the lovely grounds and a private pool and garden. Truly amazing.
From the moment we checked in from the original 1694 converted office we were welcomed. Each cottage has a beautiful garden and private pool. The views are over the immaculate grounds and surrounding hillsides. The grounds offer a restaurant (with a beautiful garden room to take breakfast) an old mill, vinyards and flowers.
The cottage itself is beautiful and spacious. We were there in winter and the fresh wood and stove was a welcome warmth as was the heated bathroom floor. A big soaking tub overlooked the yard and hillsides. It felt like our own private cottage. There is a tiny sink/fridge area with kettle and coffee maker. They even left us milk in the fridge. The fun decor, high ceilings and cozy back porch to enjoy sundowners, We truly loved it.
The location feels so private but you are a couple blocks from the main street and amazing dining. Our wine tour picked us up at the gates. Each cottage has private parking.

Behind the scenes things are not what they seem to portray. Very quickly one notices the disappointing reality and status of how things really are.
I blame this on the glam Instagram pictures and posts, false advertising is a better way of putting it it. I felt let down as I was so looking forward to our almost 3 week stay in a 3 bedroom cottage.
So, be warned, keep your expectations low.
The friendly kind & helpful staff carry this place as best they can...
The OWNERS (sitting in Australia is all I could find out) of this unique property are going to have to have a hard good look at it's current state. Unbelievable that an establishment can last with under these false pretences.
There are good points, (location, comfy beds, beautiful setting, private pool for each cottage, Weber fuel provided, daily kitchen cleaning as I had a broken wrist) to mention a few that made us 'look the other way'. At the end of the day one wants a complete all over feel good feeling about the place and we just did not get that.
My pictures will tell the story it's it was found by us:
1. the weeds have taken over, even all the way to our front door.
2. this is how I found the waste bin in one room after a whole week, left overs from the previous guests
3. soiled furniture
4. torn and tattered base cover
5. wholes in the linen of furniture
6. couch fabric torn and dirty
7. mirror broken with no attempt to repair
8. curtain in lounge not quite the interior standards one would expect

The cottages are absolutely delightful. All details are tastefully done and the bathroom, living area and bedroom are all spacious and beautifully decorated. The pool is small but very private and we loved the sitting area outside. Breakfast in the main restaurant is fabulous. Sit on the verandah and the view over the mountain has to be the best ever breakfast view. Staff really friendly and helpful. Everything clean and well looked after.

Orchard cottages at La Cotte are a fab base to explore Franschhoek. Set a few roads back from the high street staying here is prime peaceful relaxing luxury time! Unfortunately it rained our whole stay, but it didnt matter as it was such a pleasure to be in the cottage and we made the most of the wood burner. Next time, hopefully the sun shines and we can enjoy the pool!

We stayed at La Cotte (Orchard cottage 4) during our wedding weekend. It was magical, the facilities were superb and the service was impeccable. They even very kindly gave us a congratulations message and bubbly to celebrate our special day. We will be back! Thank you so much! - Jess & Jade

Let me start by saying that the cottages are wonderful. Beautifully appointed with gorgeous furniture , linens and toiletries . Nothing has been overlooked . The view and situation is amazing ( and we have stayed in many places in town). The only reason for three stars and not five was the almost constant proximity of builders / gardeners all throughout the day. As others have commented there are clearly building works going on . There is no noise save the odd drill here and there but we stayed in cottage 11 ( closest to the works) and for the three days there was always 5-10 workers within 5-10 metres of our cottage. The plan had been for my husband and I to attend our meetings in town leaving the teens to hang at the house and by the pool but our teenage daughter felt too self conscious to go out and sunbathe with so many men around. That is not to say they were doing anything but their jobs but it did feel that until the working day ended (5pm) there was no privacy. I actually feel bad being even slightly negative about the place as so much is wonderful but we had come away for some r and r which we didn’t completely get .

My nwife and I recently needed a desparately needed holday and La Cotte was so perfect for us. We stayed in a 2 bedroomed Orchard cottage and it was perfect. We ordered the breakfast basket which was always deelivered on time and was brimming full of wonderful treats - highly recommended! The views, the decor and the general fell of the orchard cottages was sublime - we will be back!

We stayed in La Cotte Forest Cottage, rather than there slightly separate Orchard Cottages. This was a beautiful cottage in a stunning setting overlooking the Franschoek valley. We stayed in the sunset cottage which is a ‘rustic chic’ one bedroom thatched cottage with sitting room (and open wood fire), bathroom and well equipped kitchen. The verandah has one of the most gorgeous views I have seen, and there is a private plunge pool and lawn with sun loungers. The cottage is surrounded by lush lavender bushes, oak trees and vineyards. Furnishings are comfortable rather than luxury but very tasteful. There’s a (very good) shower but no bath. There is no breakfast on site, but the kitchen is fully equipped and coffee/tea/milk/sugar/salt/pepper were provided. I would advise aiming to arrive before sunset, and picking up breakfast and other provisions from the shops in Franschoek. The cottages are only a 15 minute walk from Franschoek’s wonderful restaurants, albeit uphill via an unlit, unsealed farm road. The cottage might be uncomfortable at extremes of temperature, with only a heater, a wood fire and an electric fan available. Overall, a lovely, romantic place to stay with a real rural feel for a few days in Franschoek.
