Detailed Reviews
Steve is a very welcoming host and a mine of information about Barberton and its area. Our room was clean, the style is in keeping with the house; the bathroom was size able, with shower or bath options. Breakfast was simple but adequate. Steve recommended a nearby restaurant in walking distance. On checking out, Steve was suffering from his phone line being cut by the next door tree felling, and although we paid cash, we had the impression that Steve would have been happy till we could make an eft to him later.

Its lovely to open the window in the morning and to look out on the De Kaap Valley. Kloofhuis have a beautiful garden and a of friendly owner. The house itself is decorated in a Victorian style wich suites the rich history of Barberton. The bedding and bathroom was clean.
When we come to Barberton in the future we'll certainly visit there again.

A great warm welcome with the host Steve ready to give a hand with our bags.
I had pre-arranged to use the deep freeze and fridge and in no time at all, my frozen meat was stored away.
The house is right on top of the hill which allows for a great view while relaxing on the verandah sipping a sundowner. A short walk down hill will take you to one of the restaurants for dinner and Steve gave a great tip when he suggested we take a torch to light up the uphill home trek!
Breakfast was all pre-prepared which we were not aware of. I suggest if you have any dietary requirement speak to Steve ahead of time.

As soon as you arrive in this beautiful historical house over-looking the valley, Steve will make you feel like you are visiting a friend of a friend. If you want to find out more about Barberton, the Geo Trail or South-African wildlife, he is an endless source of information.
You will sleep in a beautiful traditional decor. Time seems to have stopped at "Kloofhuis", but it's nonetheless comfortable and cozy. If you are looking for an authentic atmosphere, this is the place to be!

Kloofhuis Guest House is one of the oldest houses in the old mining town of Barberton - a Victorian house built in 1890. It used to be the mining office, is now a beautifully kept small volume guesthouse. It is very centrally situated in a quiet location, a short walk (or drive) just a couple of blocks to the old town centre and museums, historic buildings, restaurants, hiking trails.
Friendly and welcoming host Steve is fantastically knowledgeable about the area, the history of Barberton and South Africa and he is happy to sit and chat answering questions and giving travel suggestions - he has run the guesthouse for the past 18 years. His wife runs the Victorian Tea Garden in front of the tourist info office.
If you want an airy huge room then the double room at the back of the house was fabulous, with wonderful spacious old-fashioned bathroom with bath and separate shower - only small issue in this room is that the small single bed in it was very uncomfortable for me - I turned the mattress over and added a thick blanket cover under the bed sheet and that was much better. Spare blankets, duvet available in the cupboards. My travelling companion slept on the double bed and said that was very comfortable. Wifi was available but not great signal or speed - ask for the double room by the front door if the wifi is important to you as the signal is best around there.
Lovely sitting room with magazines and books about the area to read and learn from. Tasty breakfast every morning with fresh fruit, cereals, eggs and toast options. Tea and coffee-making facilities available in the room, plus hairdryer, fan and tv. The fridge in the breakfast area was also available for guests to use.
Great verandah in the front of the house for relaxing and reading or chatting, with the sweet guesthouse dog and cats keeping guests company there.
