The main reason we came here was to climb the Amphitheatre in the Drakensberg Mountains (amazing by the way!!), but we found the whole place.....okay. Everyone was friendly, place was clean, food was okay, nothing out of the ordinary, but for us, it was the experience of the views, the climb and the vistas that were just amazing and possibly the only reason we would come back here again. The views from the chalets were amazing! The sky is an unreal blue....so rich! The storms they have are bigger and better than I’ve ever seen. Real growlers, and another amazing sight that we can take with us. Great big fork lightning. It was slightly expensive, and felt there were too many rules (breakfast finishes at 10am, but be sat by 9.40; tea goes on till 10, but be sat by 8.00pm), that

The Montusi Mountain Lodge is a very remote place in the Northern Drakensburg area great for mountain retreats and remote getaways. The staff was very, very friendly and helpful the whole time. The view from the lodge of the local mountain ranges was spectacular, especially in the morning from the dining room. Over a beautiful breakfast of great, fresh food and good service looking out to the mountain ranges was amazing. The Lodge is made up of a series of individual units with a large bedroom and sitting room with fireplace. The rooms are nice, clean, not really updated but still very comfortable, nothing over the top or wow. The fireplace in the living room is a great feature as it was the perfect spot to cuddle up after a day of exploring and relax. Dinner is served in the

We've been to Montusi many times over the years and keep coming back! We love horses and you can ride at Montusi or at Rugged Glen which takes you on amazing trails through the National Park. The views from the chalets are fabulous and the family is lovely and down to earth. I note a previous reviewer listed the presence of "rich South Africans from Joburg" as a negative point. Firstly, it is affordable to locals unlike other places and you DON'T have to be rich to go there (and I'm not sure why anyone should object to mixing with people from SA - it IS our country after all!)

Really perfect in every way. The service is attentive and flexible. The rooms are spacious with perfect views. The food is faultless. The location is outstanding. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It was the most memorable part of our two week stay in South Africa. You can really feel that the owners are not after your money and that they are there to serve you and make you happy. I will go back any time.

So peaceful and relaxing with stunning views over to the Amphitheatre. Indivdual garden suites were excellent as was the food and service in general. Really enjoyable guided walk with Shadrach. Great base for Royal Natal National Park and northern Drakensberg.
